Book The Impact of Intellectual Capital Disclosure on Cost of Equity Capital

Download or read book The Impact of Intellectual Capital Disclosure on Cost of Equity Capital written by Mohamed Ali Boujelbene and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this paper is to examine empirically the impact of intellectual capital disclosure (IC) on cost of Equity capital. The empirical research is based on companies listed in the French SBF 120 stock market index. The findings confirm our hypotheses that stipulate the existence of a significant and negative association between intellectual capital disclosure with its two components (human capital, structural) and the cost of equity. However, the negative impact of the relational capital disclosure is not validated. The results in this paper are of considerable importance to both policy makers and firms. In fact, the understanding of the impact of Intellectual capital disclosure on cost of equity capital helps policy makers in the evaluation of the costs and benefits of disclosure. Moreover, with regard to managers of firms, the results show the benefit of enhanced IC disclosure regarding the reduction in their cost of capital. This study is one of the very first to provide empirical evidence of the association between Cost of equity capital and the level of disclosure in the three individual intellectual capital categories (human; structural and relational capital).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the essential guide for managers wishing to implement the benefits of Intellectual Capital thinking in their companies or divisions. It serves as an easily accessible introduction to the subject area for the novice, giving the gist of what it is about and how it has developed, but above all it gives hands-on instructions on how to incorporate intellectual capital thinking in everyday business and how to use the tools provided for the management and measurement of intangible resources. Throughout the main part of the book, three different cases in separate boxes run in parallel with the body text. These are introduced in chapter 2 and illustrate how the tools are to be used, depending on what type of company wishes to implement these ideas. The three case companies are characterised as a manufacturing company, an R&D organisation and a network company. Smaller case stories about well-known global companies are also interspersed throughout the book.

Book Intellectual Capital

Download or read book Intellectual Capital written by Johan Roos and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 1998-03 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginning appropriately with an executive summary, this guide to the new business world introduces an intellectual capital approach. The Scandinavian editors define IC "as a language for thinking, talking and doing something about the drivers of companies' future earnings." Such a new language entails new measures (the IC-index approach), ways to connect to shareholder value, and ultimately, a new meaning of management. However, as Earth's smartest inhabitants, we can adapt new ways to survive the pandemic without losing enthusiasm. Therefore, even in pandemic conditions, we can still have scientific discussions, even virtually. The main theme of this symposium is "Reinforcement of the Sustainable Development Goals Post Pandemic" as a part of the masterplan of United Nations for sustainable development goals in 2030. This symposium is attended by 348 presenters from Indonesia, Malaysia, UK, Scotland, Thailand, Taiwan, Tanzania and Timor Leste which published 202 papers. Furthermore, we are delighted to introduce the proceedings of the 2nd Borobudur Symposium Borobudur on Humanities and Social Sciences 2020 (2nd BIS-HSS 2020). We hope our later discussion may result transfer of experiences and research findings from participants to others and from keynote speakers to participants. Also, we hope this event can create further research network.

Book The Effect of Accounting Disclosure on Cost of Equity Capital in Emerging Capital Markets

Download or read book The Effect of Accounting Disclosure on Cost of Equity Capital in Emerging Capital Markets written by Sameh Othman Mohamed Yassen and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study analysed the relationship between accounting disclosure, both mandatory and voluntary, on the cost of equity capital for listed companies in the Egyptian exchange. The focus is on analysing this relationship in one of the emerging capital markets where there is a paucity of research analysing this issue. To achieve this aim, two self-constructed disclosure indices for mandatory and voluntary disclosure were used to measure the level of disclosure in Egypt. The cost of equity capital was measured based on three methods identified in the literature, namely the capital asset pricing model (CAPM), the Fama-French three factor model, and the industrial earnings-price ratio. To analyse the effect of accounting disclosure on the cost of equity capital, each of the cost of equity measurement methods was regressed on mandatory and voluntary disclosure scores, alternatively, and some controls that are identified in the literature to affect the association between the two variables. The control variables used were firm size, leverage, book-to-market ratio, profitability, liquidity, and sales growth. As a robustness check, a composite measure of the three cost of equity methods was used and the effect of the control variables was excluded from the analyses. To control for the existent endogeneity in the explanatory variable, accounting disclosure, a dynamic panel system of the generalized method of moments (SGMM) was used in the regression analyses. Using a sample of 657 firm year observations for 73 firms across 11 industries for nine years from 2008 to 2016, the study found a significant negative association between voluntary disclosure level and cost of equity capital, however, the study found a significant positive association between mandatory disclosure level and cost of equity capital. The results of the study could benefit various parties including researchers, regulators, and investors. It provides a motivation to researchers interested in analysing this association in Egypt and other emerging markets besides providing these researchers with a suitable data set to measure disclosure and cost of equity capital in Egypt. Regulators could benefit from the results of the study through identifying the shortcomings that need to be overcome to improve the disclosure environment in Egypt. Investors could use the results of the study as a data source in making investment decisions in Egypt.

Book Regulation Fair Disclosure and the Cost of Equity Capital

Download or read book Regulation Fair Disclosure and the Cost of Equity Capital written by Dan S. Dhaliwal and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We examine the effect of Regulation Fair Disclosure (Reg FD) on the cost of equity capital. We find some evidence that (1) the cost of capital declines in the post-Reg FD period relative to the pre-Reg FD period, on average, for a broad cross-section of U.S. firms, (2) the decrease in the cost of capital post Reg FD is mainly for medium and large firms but is insignificant for small firms, and (3) the decrease in the cost of capital post Reg FD is systematically related to firm characteristics indicative of selective disclosure before Reg FD. In contrast, we find little evidence of a decrease in the cost of capital for American Depositary Receipts and U.S.-listed foreign firms, which are legally exempt from Reg FD. Overall, our findings do not support a conclusion in recent studies that the cost of capital has increased post Reg FD and, if anything, suggest the opposite.

Book National Intellectual Capital

Download or read book National Intellectual Capital written by Carol Yeh-Yun Lin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-10-29 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past decade, knowledge assets and intellectual capital have been attracting an increasing amount of attention, not only from academics and CEOs, but also from national policy makers. To date, most studies of intellectual capital have focused at the organizational level, with an emphasis on explaining the role of “intangible assets” as a differentiator between accounting value and market value as a possible source of corporate competitive advantage. More recently, pioneers in the field, including the authors of this book, have begun to apply these methodologies to a broader scope, with the objective of comparing the intellectual capital indices at the national or regional level. As a result, an increasing number of world organizations and researchers are commissioned to investigate this future-oriented crucial national issue. Yet, the linkage between the value of intangible assets and how to quantify or benchmark it is still tenuous, not to mention easily misunderstood by a layman for guiding better decision making. With the belief that numbers talk and statistics hide valuable information, this book serves to present the authors’ research findings, covering 14 years (1995-2008) of intellectual capital information, comprised of human capital, market capital, process capital, renewal capital, and financial capital for 40 countries. The last three chapters go beyond analysis of current intellectual capital factors, and present practical tools for launching initiatives at the national level. The book will serve as an essential resource for researchers, policy makers, and business leaders concerned with issues of economic growth and competitiveness, innovation, and business creation.
