This book was released on 2015-10-22 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Goursat partial differential equation is a hyperbolic partial differential equation which arises in science and engineering fields. Many approaches have been suggested to approximate the solutions of the Goursat partial differential equations such as the finite difference method, Runge-Kutta method, differential transform method, variational iteration method and homotopy analysis method. These methods focus on series expansion and numerical differentiation approaches including the forward and central differences in deriving the schemes. In this book, we developed new schemes to solve a class of Goursat partial differential equations that applies the Newton-Cotes formula for approximating the double integrals terms. The Newton-Cotes numerical integration involves Newton-Cotes order one, Newton-Cotes order two, Newton-Cotes order three and Newton-Cotes order four. The linear and nonlinear homogeneous and inhomogeneous Goursat problems are examined. The new schemes gave quantitatively reliable results for the problems considered. The numerical analysis test has been performed to ensure that the new schemes are accurate, consistent, stable and converge in solving these problems.

Book Bounds on the Truncation Error by Finite Differences for the Goursat Problem

Download or read book Bounds on the Truncation Error by Finite Differences for the Goursat Problem written by Abdul Kadir Aziz and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A finite difference analogue is formulated for the boundary value problem, a finite analogue of Riemann's function is developed. It is shown that the truncation error is bounded explicitly in terms of the data of the problem, which is of 0(h squared), where h is the mesh size. Bounds of the same order are obtained for the error in approximating the derivatives. Similar results are derived for the nonlinear cas if f satisfies certain continuity and differentiability conditions.

Book Differential and Integral Inequalities

Download or read book Differential and Integral Inequalities written by Wolfgang Walter and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1964 the author's mono graph "Differential- und Integral-Un gleichungen," with the subtitle "und ihre Anwendung bei Abschätzungs und Eindeutigkeitsproblemen" was published. The present volume grew out of the response to the demand for an English translation of this book. In the meantime the literature on differential and integral in equalities increased greatly. We have tried to incorporate new results as far as possible. As a matter of fact, the Bibliography has been almost doubled in size. The most substantial additions are in the field of existence theory. In Chapter I we have included the basic theorems on Volterra integral equations in Banach space (covering the case of ordinary differential equations in Banach space). Corresponding theorems on differential inequalities have been added in Chapter II. This was done with a view to the new sections; dealing with the line method, in the chapter on parabolic differential equations. Section 35 contains an exposition of this method in connection with estimation and convergence. An existence theory for the general nonlinear parabolic equation in one space variable based on the line method is given in Section 36. This theory is considered by the author as one of the most significant recent applications of in equality methods. We should mention that an exposition of Krzyzanski's method for solving the Cauchy problem has also been added. The numerous requests that the new edition include a chapter on elliptic differential equations have been satisfied to some extent.

Book Boundary Element Analysis of Plates and Shells

Download or read book Boundary Element Analysis of Plates and Shells written by Dimitri E. Beskos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analysis of plates and shells under static and dynamic loads is of greatinterest to scientists and engineers both from the theoretical and the practical viewpoint. The Boun- dary Element Method (BEM) has some distinct advantages over domain techniques such as the Finite Difference Method (FDM) and the Finite Element Method (FEM) for a wide class of structuralanalysis problems. This is the first book to deal specifically with the analysis of plates and shells by the BEM and to cover all aspects of their behaviour, and combi- nes tutorial and state-of-the-art articles on the BEM as ap- plied to plates and shells. It aims to inform scientists and engineers about the use and the advantages of this techni- que, the most recent developments in the field and the per- tinent literature for further study.

Book Traditional Functional Discrete Methods for the Problems of Mathematical Physics

Download or read book Traditional Functional Discrete Methods for the Problems of Mathematical Physics written by Volodymyr Makarov and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-02-23 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the construction and study of approximate methods for solving mathematical physics problems in canonical domains. It focuses on obtaining weighted a priori estimates of the accuracy of these methods while also considering the influence of boundary and initial conditions. This influence is quantified by means of suitable weight functions that characterize the distance of an inner point to the boundary of the domain. New results are presented on boundary and initial effects for the finite difference method for elliptic and parabolic equations, mesh schemes for equations with fractional derivatives, and the Cayley transform method for abstract differential equations in Hilbert and Banach spaces. Due to their universality and convenient implementation, the algorithms discussed throughout can be used to solve a wide range of actual problems in science and technology. The book is intended for scientists, university teachers, and graduate and postgraduate students who specialize in the field of numerical analysis.

Book Advances in the Efficiency of Computational Methods and Applications

Download or read book Advances in the Efficiency of Computational Methods and Applications written by Ioannis K. Argyros and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This invaluable textbook creates a general framework for the study of optimal iterative procedures for problems that are solved approximately. Emphasis is given to the efficiency of numerical methods. For generality the setting is abstract, but the book presents many applications to practical problems, allowing the reader to take advantage of the most modern high speed calculating devices, and provides examples to illustrate concepts and major theorems. The examples are selected from astrophysics (radiative transfer and the kinetic theory of gases), mechanics (elasticity), economics (predator -- prey problems), the n-dimensional Euclidean space and other applied areas. The book will benefit not only senior undergraduates, graduates, graduate students and researchers in the field but also those who wish to obtain information about specific results or techniques that take into account the particular nature of the equation.
