Download or read book Integrating the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases in HIV AIDS tuberculosis and sexual and reproductive health programmes written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2023-04-03 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2011, heads of state and government at the United Nations General Assembly formally acknowledged that NCDs are one of the major challenges to development and committed to integrate NCD prevention and control into other programmes, such as for HIV and broader maternal and child health programmes, especially in PHC. The commitment to integrate NCDs into existing disease programmes was reaffirmed again through its NCD resolutions at its Third High-level Meeting in 2018. This guidance outlines strategic actions and practical solutions in response to the challenges of integration of NCDs, as appropriate and relevant to the country context. The objective is to maximize the impact of health services and extend access to NCD care. The target readership is policymakers, programme managers and health providers. The guidance should also be useful for WHO and international partners (including donors and banks) that champion integrated support for NCD service delivery in countries and better management.

This book was released on 2024-08-02 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In highlighting how a WHO Public Health Approach (PHA) has been successfully used in developing countries to provide HIV/AIDS patients with antiretroviral therapy (ART), this important book provides a template for how the PHA can be implemented to treat other chronic but non-communicable diseases (NCDs) as well. With over 28 million people globally now receiving treatment for HIV/AIDS, it's clear there are lessons to be learnt from the provision of ART which have great relevance for NCD care and towards achieving Universal Health Coverage in the global south. The first section of the book provides a detailed overview of the strategy that enabled such a successful program to be take place, the challenges faced and its evolution over time. The book then moves on to assert that by approaching other chronic NCDs in a similar way, focussing on populations with integrated long-term and short-term person-centred care, there is a pathway towards universal health care and Universal Health Coverage across the developing world. Discussing many of the most pressing diseases and public health issues effecting these regions, this book provides global health scholars and practitioners with a detailed analysis of the challenges faced in tackling these diseases, but also an integrated person-centred health-care approach by which these challenges may be met.

Book Non Communicable Disease Prevention

Download or read book Non Communicable Disease Prevention written by Anthony J Culyer and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-09 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of death worldwide, contributing to over 73% of all deaths annually. Each day NCDs cause more than 100,000 deaths, 80% of which occur in low- and middle-income countries. NCDs, however, are largely preventable, and a great deal of technical knowledge exists about how to prevent and manage them. Why, then, have we, as a global community, not been more successful at reducing this NCD burden? Does a universal problem not have a universal solution?Created by an international consortium of experts, this informative and accessible book provides practical guidelines, key learning points, and dynamic, real-world case studies to aid NCD program managers, policy officers and decision-makers in low- and middle-income countries, so that they can assess interventions for the prevention and control of NCDs.The book was commissioned by the Prince Mahidol Award Conference (PMAC), an annual international conference centred on policy of global significance related to public health. Non-Communicable Disease Prevention: Best Buys, Wasted Buys and Contestable Buys emphasises the importance of context in NCD control and prevention, arguing that the success of an intervention lies in an ability to respond to local needs and environments. The book comprises ten chapters, which collectively explore the reasons behind, and strategies for, preventing and managing the NCD burden. It spans key themes such as political economy, the transferability of economic evidence, the role of cross-sectoral policies, the importance of deliberative processes, and health technology assessment. This book is written for the benefit of the global health community, and is primarily targeted at those individuals who are involved in NCD programs. This book will also be of interest to NCD champions, policy advocates, and educators spearheading the movement for increased visiblity of NCDs. Book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 9

Download or read book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 9 written by Dean T. Jamison and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2017-12-06 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the culminating volume in the DCP3 series, volume 9 will provide an overview of DCP3 findings and methods, a summary of messages and substantive lessons to be taken from DCP3, and a further discussion of cross-cutting and synthesizing topics across the first eight volumes. The introductory chapters (1-3) in this volume take as their starting point the elements of the Essential Packages presented in the overview chapters of each volume. First, the chapter on intersectoral policy priorities for health includes fiscal and intersectoral policies and assembles a subset of the population policies and applies strict criteria for a low-income setting in order to propose a "highest-priority" essential package. Second, the chapter on packages of care and delivery platforms for universal health coverage (UHC) includes health sector interventions, primarily clinical and public health services, and uses the same approach to propose a highest priority package of interventions and policies that meet similar criteria, provides cost estimates, and describes a pathway to UHC.

Book Collaborative Framework for Care and Control of Tuberculosis and Diabetes

Download or read book Collaborative Framework for Care and Control of Tuberculosis and Diabetes written by World Health Organization and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Given the absence of international guidelines on the joint management and control of TB and diabetes, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (the Union) identified key questions to be answered and commissioned systematic reviews of studies addressing those questions. A series of expert consultations were organized to assess the findings of the systematic reviews and a guideline group was established to develop this provisional collaborative framework. The framework aims to guide national programmes, clinicians and others engaged in care of patients and prevention and control of diabetes and TB on how to establish a coordinated response to both diseases, at organizational and clinical levels. The framework is based on evidence collated from systematic reviews and existing guidelines on the diagnosis and management of TB and diabetes. The systematic reviews confirmed the weak evidence base for the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of collaborative interventions. The framework is therefore provisional; several of its recommendations are provisional pending better evidence. In order to provide advice on how to fill the knowledge gaps, the framework includes a list of priority research areas."--Page vii-viii.
