Book Integrating Sustainable Development Into National Frameworks

Download or read book Integrating Sustainable Development Into National Frameworks written by Janet R. Strachan and published by Commonwealth Secretariat. This book was released on 2011 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings policy-making for sustainable development into the mainstream of decision-making at all levels of governance and in all sectors. It builds on the 2005 internationally agreed 'Mauritius Strategy' which aims to implement the integration of sustainable development by small island developing states. Designed as a handbook for policy-makers and planners in government, as well as business and civil society leaders, it covers seven of the twenty issues that have been outlined in the Mauritius Strategy as being important for the sustainable development of SIDS - disaster management; marine resources; freshwater resources; land resources; energy resources; tourism resources and trade. It brings together best practices, policy options and development prospects that small states can pursue in order to achieve real progress in these fields. It covers the progress and experiences of countries in the Caribbean region, the Pacific region, and the Atlantic, Indian Ocean and Mediterranean region in their implementation of sustainable development in these areas. It also provides a useful point of reference and stimulus to policy-makers and their supporting colleagues from all sectors.

Book excerpt: The passage of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in 2007 focused attention on the ways in which Indigenous peoples are adapting to the pressures of globalization and development. Book Conflict in collective forest tenure

Download or read book Conflict in collective forest tenure written by Larson, A.M. and published by CIFOR. This book was released on 2019-03-06 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In comparison with Indonesia, Uganda and Nepal, Peruvian law provides a weak mandate for tenure reform implementers to address conflict, and Peru has the lowest number of implementing officials stating that addressing conflict is among their responsibilities. In the villages studied, Peru reports the highest proportion of villagers involved in land or forest conflicts, the highest proportion with actors external to the community and the lowest portion resolved. Despite the legal significance of a land title, collective titling alone does not assure the end of land/forest disputes with outsiders. The state needs to defend the property rights that it has recognized. Peru must improve its legal framework for conflict management in land/forest disputes both in and after formalization processes, drawing on state and customary, community or alternative mechanisms.

This book was released on 2021-05-27 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given the complementarities that exist between the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security (VGGT) and the Framework and Guidelines on Land Policy in Africa (F&G), there is a need to achieve a coordinated approach to their application to ensure that the objectives they pursue are attained in a coherent, sustainable, efficient and mutually supportive manner. The Strategic Framework for the Integrated Application of VGGT and F&G presented in this document addresses this necessity directly, in recognition of the need to develop and leverage the synergies that exist between the two instruments through strengthened partnerships and cooperation, ensuring that the advancement of responsible governance of tenure in Africa is achieved.

Book Teaching Peace amidst Conflict and Postcolonialism

Download or read book Teaching Peace amidst Conflict and Postcolonialism written by Christopher P. Davey and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2023-05-26 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a world where post-conflict and postcolonial countries struggle to heal from the past and meet new challenges, peace education is often neglected and instrumentalized for political agendas. Drawing on case studies from Afghanistan, Bolivia, Burundi, Colombia, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Sri Lanka, and Uruguay, this book shows that cultural and structural violence can, in turn, lead to direct violence. An effective program of peace education responds to these dynamics meeting our urgent problems and opening up new opportunities for peacebuilding. With this direction in mind, this book addresses the practices of peace education from around the world. The fundamental question answered here is: can peace be taught, especially where the scars of war and legacies of colonialism are entrenched in society? Peace education is foundational to a more equitable future where global citizens share a planet in justice, equity, with human security, and all the elements of sustainable, resilient peace. Foremost, it is an essential pillar for societies scarred by violence.
