Download or read book Integrating Closed Loop Supply Chains and Spare Parts Management at Ibm written by Moritz Fleischmann and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever more companies are recognizing the benefits of closed-loop supplychains that integrate product returns into business operations. IBMhas been among the pioneers seeking to unlock the value dormant inthese resources. We report on a project exploiting product returns asa source of spare parts. Key decisions include the choice of recoveryopportunities to use, the channel design, and the coordination ofalternative supply sources. We developed an analytic inventory controlmodel and a simulation model to address these issues. Our results showthat procurement cost savings largely outweigh reverse logistics costsand that information management is key to an efficient solution. Ourrecommendations provide a basis for significantly expanding the usageof the novel parts supply source, which allows for cutting procurementcosts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Closed-loop supply chain activities such as remanufacturing, recycling, dismantling for spare parts, and reverse logistics have helped many companies tap into new revenue streams by finding secondary markets for their products, all while reducing their overall carbon footprint. Written by academic experts, in language that is accessible to practitioners, this authoritative resource examines recent research and case studies of companies running profitable reuse/remanufacture operations in various industries. It illustrates profitable practices in returned and recovered products, clearly explaining how to: design a reverse logistics network, conduct production planning, implement effective marketing strategies, and apply closed-loop supply chain strategies in industries besides manufacturing. From product development to materials to assembly and profitability, this complete resource explores the impact of these processes across all aspects of the supply chain.

Invaluable for managers in designing a sustainable, robust, and profitable supply chain network and ideal for managers, practitioners, and researchers in the area of supply chain network design and optimization.

Book Sustainable Operations and Closed Loop Supply Chains

Download or read book Sustainable Operations and Closed Loop Supply Chains written by Gilvan C. Souza and published by Business Expert Press. This book was released on 2012-05-25 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written for any company or organization that needs detailed guidance on the journey towards sustainability, starting from zero. And if your firm wants to be sustainable, you know you have to consider the triple bottom line when making decisions: economic (profit), environmental (planet), and social (people). By focusing on the triple bottom line (3Ps), your firm can be assured of a steady supply of inputs such as raw materials and labor. Author Souza carefully explains the first step towards sustainability, which is aimed at reducing waste in operations, with the help of such tools as lean and Six Sigma. He will also help guide your firm through a “life cycle assessment” (LCA) for each of the main products and processes. LCA is a methodology designed to assess the environmental impact (such as energy consumption, and toxicity) of a product or process through its life cycle: raw material extraction, transportation, manufacturing, packaging and distribution, use by consumers, and end-of-life. The final step in the journey towards sustainability is to close the loop. To close the loop, you’ll learn about designing efficient packaging, designing products for multiple life cycles (as in design for remanufacturing), or designing products according to a Cradle to Cradle® philosophy, which ensures no use of toxic materials, ease of disassembly, and 100% up-cyclability. The book concludes with the “final P” of sustainability—people, with some examples of firms that invest heavily in the social bottom line.

Book Integrating Selected Concepts and Methods to Enhance Corporate Sustainability

Download or read book Integrating Selected Concepts and Methods to Enhance Corporate Sustainability written by Christian Nuß and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2016-09-30 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The striving for sustainable development is one of the great challenges of the 21st century. As a result on a corporate level, companies are increasingly forced to broaden their scope by considering environmental and social aspects in their decision-making processes to ultimately remain competitive and prospering. However, the incorporation of sustainability into both qualitative and quantitative corporate decision-making is challenging and complex. Against this background the present doctoral dissertation reveals ways to implement and enhance corporate sustainability. This is done by means of integrating selected methods and concepts, namely the concepts of transdisciplinarity, reverse logistics, and green information systems as well as methods and tools from the discipline of operations research. Within seven research contributions qualitative and quantitative approaches are developed that improve corporate decision-making to achieve sustainability goals.

This book was released on 2009-07-30 with total page 745 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To be able to compete successfully both at national and international levels, production systems and equipment must perform at levels not even thinkable a decade ago. Requirements for increased product quality, reduced throughput time and enhanced operating effectiveness within a rapidly changing customer demand environment continue to demand a high maintenance performance. In some cases, maintenance is required to increase operational effectiveness and revenues and customer satisfaction while reducing capital, operating and support costs. This may be the largest challenge facing production enterprises these days. For this, maintenance strategy is required to be aligned with the production logistics and also to keep updated with the current best practices. Maintenance has become a multidisciplinary activity and one may come across situations in which maintenance is the responsibility of people whose training is not engineering. This handbook aims to assist at different levels of understanding whether the manager is an engineer, a production manager, an experienced maintenance practitioner or a beginner. Topics selected to be included in this handbook cover a wide range of issues in the area of maintenance management and engineering to cater for all those interested in maintenance whether practitioners or researchers. This handbook is divided into 6 parts and contains 26 chapters covering a wide range of topics related to maintenance management and engineering.

This book was released on 2022-08-15 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the COVID-19 pandemic comes to a close, inflation has revealed itself to be a major problem for all countries of the developed world. The problem has been exacerbated in developing nations, which had problems even before the pandemic. Energy prices have increased, and with the increase in transportation costs, it has been more difficult for many retailers to stock shelves as they did before the pandemic. It is understood by many that the rising prices and supply chain disruptions will likely not be temporary and must be managed by future executives.
