Book Integrating Basing Support and Air Vehicle Requirements

Download or read book Integrating Basing Support and Air Vehicle Requirements written by Morton B. Berman and published by RAND Corporation. This book was released on 1985 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes and demonstrates a new methodology for increasing the effectiveness of future fighters that must face growing enemy threats in Europe and the Third World. Unlike traditional methods, this new methodology integrates changes in the design of air vehicles with changes in the basing and support systems they will use. The methodology calls not only for such conventional measures as the speed, acceleration, altitude, payload, and maneuverability of the air vehicle, but also for such new measures as the flexibility, mobility, sortie generation capability, aircraft ground survivability, and cost of the air vehicle, as well as its basing methods and support structure.

Book Increasing Future Fighter Weapon System Performance by Integrating Basing Support and Air Vehicle Requirements

Download or read book Increasing Future Fighter Weapon System Performance by Integrating Basing Support and Air Vehicle Requirements written by Morton B. Berman and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report argues that the Air Force should consider alternative basing and support characteristics before completing concept formulation for the Advanced Technical Fighter. In so doing, the Air Force could integrate these characteristics using a methodology described in this Note. This methodology aims at identifying the best match between specific air vehicle characteristics and such basing and support improvements as dispersed and/or rearward basing, short-take-off-and-landing and rough-field-landing capabilities, increased combat range capabilities, improved equipment reliability, and decreased reliance on support equipment and personnel.

Book Improving Operational Suitability Through Better Requirements and Testing

Download or read book Improving Operational Suitability Through Better Requirements and Testing written by William L. Stanley and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This report proposes prescriptive actions that could increase the contribution made by requirements and test-and-evaluation (T & E) aspects of the weapon system acquisition process to the fielding of more operationally suitable Air Force systems. Actions are needed that will (1) correct chronic problems in the expression of operational suitability needs and requirements, (2) address the problem of fragmented operational requirements documentation, (3) expand contractual accountability for reliability-and-maintainability and logistics-support characteristics, (4) adjust acquisition policies to enhance T & E's contribution to decisionmaking and to the identification and correction of deficiencies, and (5) structure tests to demonstrate new operating concepts and capabilities. These actions could facilitate the consideration of suitability factors in acquisition process activities that address difficult tradeoffs among operational suitability, functional performance, cost, and development time."--Rand abstracts.

Book United States Military Forces and Installations in Europe

Download or read book United States Military Forces and Installations in Europe written by Simon Duke and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many people who live in Europe, the presence of substantial US military forces is a matter of concern and debate, which has tended so far to centre around a few highly-visible bases, such as the cruise missile locations. Apart from these few bases, relatively little is known about the size and extent of the US military presence in Europe. This book aims to fill that gap by providing the raw data on what is where. The study also highlights the historical details behind the acquisition of bases in individual countries, and summarizes and analyses all of the basing agreements between the US and its host nations which are available to the public. The book a timely contribution to the debate: as discussions begin for possible post-INF cuts in superpower force levels in Europe, there is an urgent need for accurate and unbiased information on US forces in Western Europe and on the massive infrastructure that supports those forces.

Book Defense Reform and Technology

Download or read book Defense Reform and Technology written by Serge Herzog and published by Praeger. This book was released on 1994-05-30 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To capture the defense reform debate surrounding the proper application of high technology in military systems, this study focuses on tactical aircraft, an area epitomizing cutting-edge technology. Air combat history is revisited (including the 1991 Persian Gulf War) to confirm, reject, or qualify positions advocating certain technologies in tactical aviation. Emphasis is placed on enduring combat ideas and aircraft design principles. The interaction between mission requirements, inventory composition, and aircraft design is discussed to illustrate the dynamics of constrained choice that enters acquisition decisions. The relevance of reform arguments in the post-Cold War era is assessed, including the impact of political and economic constraints on future force-mix options, the shift from NATO-centered contingencies to Third World Low Intensity Conflict (LIC), and the threat of conventional arms proliferation.
