From The Very Dawn Of Freedom Struggle, The Socio-Economic Transformation Of The Rural Masses Has Been The Focal Point Of All The Developmental Efforts. Following The Political Emancipation Of The Country, A Number Of Experiments Under Five Year Plans Were Initiated To Ensure The Rural Uplift In India. The Community Development Programme Launched On 2Nd October, 1952 Was The First Step In This Direction. It Was Followed By The Panchayati Raj System Introduced In India On October 2, 1959. From The 4Th Five Year Plan A Number Of Special Area Programmes Were Introduced To Change The Deserted Outlook Of The Rural Scenario. Book Economic Development in Rural Sector

Download or read book Economic Development in Rural Sector written by Jody Gordon and published by Scientific e-Resources. This book was released on 2019-04-19 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of economic development of countries show that there have been countless examples of institutional agencies that have played pivotal role in fulfilling certain developmental activities. Cooperation as an institution is used in various countries as instrument of economic growth. The economic performance of rural regions around the world is lagging, despite efforts by governments and local leaders to address the problem. Rural economic development should focus on the unique strengths of each area, rather than concentrating on ameliorating generic weaknesses. Rural economic development should address and harness the efficient spatial distribution of economic activity rather than attempt to replicate urban economies. Rural development aims at improving rural people's livelihoods in an equitable and sustainable manner, both socially and environmentally, through better access to assets and services, and control over productive capital that enable them to improve their livelihoods on a sustainable and equitable basis. It is certain that the valuable contributions, views and suggestions of the researchers will be of immense help to the future researchers, policy-makers, administrators and social thinkers in solving the problem of poverty, unemployment and to achieve economic development of the country as well as the state, especially in rural sector, renewing the existing employment generating programmes. The objective underlying the publication of this book is, therefore, to attract the attention of those interested in, and concerned with, the growth and progress of agricultural sector in our country.

Book Evaluating the European Approach to Rural Development

Download or read book Evaluating the European Approach to Rural Development written by Dr Imre Kovách and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2015-04-28 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The LEADER programme, initiated in 1991, aims to improve the development potential of rural areas in the European Union by drawing on local initiatives and skills. Highlighting this unique policy approach, this book presents up-to-date research results on LEADER’s achievements and restrictions at the local level in a comparative way in order to discuss its merits and problems. What makes LEADER important is not only that it has a major role in rural development efforts, but also that it has a pioneering role in the new type of governance, participatory democracy. Asking whether LEADER strengthens local democracy or not, this book also looks at how it affects the power balance among stakeholders, between national and local actors and between genders. It questions whether LEADER projects are genuinely grass-root level activities, reflecting local needs and ideals; and if the approach brings local know-how back onto the development agenda in innovations and development activities. Finally, the authors examine the success of dissemination of knowledge within the LEADER programme to other regions.
