Download or read book Integrated Project Management and Control written by Mario Vanhoucke and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an integrated approach to monitoring projects in progress using Earned Value and Earned Schedule Management combined with Schedule Risk Analysis. Monitoring and controlling projects involves processes for identifying potential problems in a timely manner. When necessary, corrective actions can be taken to exploit project opportunities or to get faltering projects back on track. The prerequisite is that project performance is observed and measured regularly to identify variances from the project baseline schedule. Therefore, monitoring the performance of projects in progress requires a set of tools and techniques that should ideally be combined into a single integrated system. The book offers a valuable resource for anyone who wants to understand the theory first and then to use it in practice with software tools. It is intended for students, professionals and academics with an interest and/or experience in running projects as well as for newcomers in the area of project control with a basic grasp of the Earned Value, Earned Schedule and Schedule Risk Analysis concepts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about integrated project management. It is not about all aspects of project management but it includes some of the most important aspects. All projects contain three elements; scope of work, a scheduled time frame in which the work must be accomplished, and a budget to perform the work. Integrating these three elements using Earned Value Management provides the basis for effective project management. This book discusses how the planning, control, and management of projects can be improved through the use of Earned Value.

Download or read book Project Management with Dynamic Scheduling written by Mario Vanhoucke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-29 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of this book is known as dynamic scheduling, and is used to refer to three dimensions of project management and scheduling: the construction of a baseline schedule and the analysis of a project schedule’s risk as preparation of the project control phase during project progress. This dynamic scheduling point of view implicitly assumes that the usability of a project’s baseline schedule is rather limited and only acts as a point of reference in the project life cycle. Consequently, a project schedule should especially be considered as nothing more than a predictive model that can be used for resource efficiency calculations, time and cost risk analyses, project tracking and performance measurement, and so on. In this book, the three dimensions of dynamic scheduling are highlighted in detail and are based on and inspired by a combination of academic research studies at Ghent University (www.ugent.be), in-company trainings at Vlerick Business School (www.vlerick.com) and consultancy projects at OR-AS (www.or-as.be). First, the construction of a project baseline schedule is a central theme throughout the various chapters of the book, and is discussed from a complexity point of view with and without the presence of project resources. Second, the creation of an awareness of the weak parts in a baseline schedule is discussed at the end of the two baseline scheduling parts as schedule risk analysis techniques that can be applied on top of the baseline schedule. Third, the baseline schedule and its risk analyses can be used as guidelines during the project control step where actual deviations can be corrected within the margins of the project’s time and cost reserves. The second edition of this book has seen corrections, additions and amendments in detail throughout the book. Moreover Chapter 15 on "Dynamic Scheduling with ProTrack" has been completely rewritten and extended with a section on "ProTrack as a research tool".
Download or read book Essentials of Project Control written by Jeffrey K. Pinto and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Project managers who regard hall monitors and drill sergeants as role models need to spend some time with Essentials of Project Control. This book civilizes and humanizes the conventional view of control. No longer the bad boy in a manager's plan-organize-direct-control job description, modern control envelops us like the wise advice of a country doctor. We readily comply with the doctor's sensible prescription because it is good for us, and it works. Essentials of Project Control contains 13 articles published between 1985 and 1998 in the Project Management Journal(R) and PM Network(R). Chosen and organized by Pinto and Trailer, the two-to-ten page selections are best read consecutively. There is a thoughtful integration of ideas, and the articles flow and build nicely upon each other. This is the second book in Project Management Institute's (PMI(R)) Editors' Choice Series, a reprint series designed to supplement the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK(R)).
Download or read book Integrated Project Control written by A D Berry and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-11 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrated Project Control deals with project management standards as an integrated part of a framework of standards covering the total information technology (IT) life-cycle. Various aspects of integrated project control are examined, with emphasis on the IT projects of commercial organizations. Comprised of three parts, this book begins by discussing the overall corporate IT management framework and project management of development/procurement projects. It describes a ""model"" or ""logical"" framework that addresses the management requirements of all stages of the IT life-cycle as well as the direction, control, and coordination across the life-cycle. It considers the role of project management within the overall framework that can be used as a model for the future against which any company can assess its performance. The chapters explore the quantification of risk in aiding management decisions; organizational issues in project management; cost-effective control procedures for project management; and the management implications of prototyping and new generation languages. Some important aspects of project management, including quality assurance and technical issues, are also analyzed. This monograph will be a valuable resource for directors and managers of IT.
Download or read book The Data Driven Project Manager written by Mario Vanhoucke and published by Apress. This book was released on 2018-03-27 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discover solutions to common obstacles faced by project managers. Written as a business novel, the book is highly interactive, allowing readers to participate and consider options at each stage of a project. The book is based on years of experience, both through the author's research projects as well as his teaching lectures at business schools. The book tells the story of Emily Reed and her colleagues who are in charge of the management of a new tennis stadium project. The CEO of the company, Jacob Mitchell, is planning to install a new data-driven project management methodology as a decision support tool for all upcoming projects. He challenges Emily and her team to start a journey in exploring project data to fight against unexpected project obstacles. Data-driven project management is known in the academic literature as “dynamic scheduling” or “integrated project management and control.” It is a project management methodology to plan, monitor, and control projects in progress in order to deliver them on time and within budget to the client. Its main focus is on the integration of three crucial aspects, as follows: Baseline Scheduling: Plan the project activities to create a project timetable with time and budget restrictions. Determine start and finish times of each project activity within the activity network and resource constraints. Know the expected timing of the work to be done as well as an expected impact on the project’s time and budget objectives. Schedule Risk Analysis: Analyze the risk of the baseline schedule and its impact on the project’s time and budget. Use Monte Carlo simulations to assess the risk of the baseline schedule and to forecast the impact of time and budget deviations on the project objectives. Project Control: Measure and analyze the project’s performance data and take actions to bring the project on track. Monitor deviations from the expected project progress and control performance in order to facilitate the decision-making process in case corrective actions are needed to bring projects back on track. Both traditional Earned Value Management (EVM) and the novel Earned Schedule (ES) methods are used. What You'll Learn Implement a data-driven project management methodology (also known as "dynamic scheduling") which allows project managers to plan, monitor, and control projects while delivering them on time and within budget Study different project management tools and techniques, such as PERT/CPM, schedule risk analysis (SRA), resource buffering, and earned value management (EVM) Understand the three aspects of dynamic scheduling: baseline scheduling, schedule risk analysis, and project control Who This Book Is For Project managers looking to learn data-driven project management (or "dynamic scheduling") via a novel, demonstrating real-time simulations of how project managers can solve common project obstacles
