Book Integrated Passive Active Vibration Absorber for Multi Story Buildings

Download or read book Integrated Passive Active Vibration Absorber for Multi Story Buildings written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by . This book was released on 2018-10-22 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Passive isolator, active vibration absorber, and an integrated passive/active (hybrid) control are studied for their effectiveness in reducing structural vibration under seismic excitations. For the passive isolator, a laminated rubber bearing base isolator which has been studied and used extensively by researchers and seismic designers is considered. An active vibration absorber concept, which can provide guaranteed closed-loop stability with minimum knowledge of the controlled system, is used to reduce the passive isolator displacement and to suppress the top floor vibration. A three-story building model is used for the numerical simulation. The performance of an active vibration absorber and a hybrid vibration controller in reducing peak structural responses is compared with the passively isolated structural response and with absence of vibration control systems under the N00W component of El Centro 1940 and N90W component of the Mexico City earthquake excitation records. The results show that the integrated passive/active vibration control system is most effective in suppressing the peak structural acceleration for the El Centro 1940 earthquake when compared with the passive or active vibration absorber alone. The active vibration absorber, however, is the only system that suppresses the peak acceleration of the structure for the Mexico City 1985 earthquake. Book Passive Adaptive Active Vibration Control and Integrated Approaches

Download or read book Passive Adaptive Active Vibration Control and Integrated Approaches written by Dirk Mayer and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Passive vibration control solutions like tuned vibration absorbers are often limited to tackle a single structural resonance or a specific disturbance frequency. Active vibration control systems can overcome these limitations, yet requiring continuously electrical energy for a sufficient performance. Thus, in some cases, a passive vibration control system is still preferable. Yet, the integration of active elements enables adaptation of the system parameters, for instance, the resonance of a tuned vibration absorber. These adaptive or semi-active systems only require external energy for the adaptation, while the compensating forces are generated by the inertia of the absorber's mass. In this contribution, the fundamentals of active, passive, and adaptive vibration control are briefly summarized and compared regarding their main advantages and design challenges. In the second part, a design of an inertial mass device with integrated piezoelectric actuators is presented. By applying a lever mechanism, the stiffness of the inertial mass device can be tuned even to very low frequencies. The device can be used to implement both adaptive tuned vibration absorbers and active control systems. In the last section of the chapter, the device is used in an experiment for vibration control of a large elastic structure. The setup is used to demonstrate different strategies for the realization of a vibration control system and the integration of different vibration control strategies.

Download or read book Passive Vibration Control of Structures written by Suhasini Madhekar and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-05-05 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research in vibration response control deals not only with prevention of catastrophic failures of structures during natural or accidental/manmade hazards but also ensures the comfort of occupants through serviceability. Therefore, the focus of this book is on the theory of dynamic response control of structures by using different kinds of passive vibration control devices. The strategies used for controlling displacement, velocity, and acceleration response of structures such as buildings, bridges, and liquid storage tanks under the action of dynamic loads emanating from earthquake, wind, wave, and so forth are detailed. The book: Explains fundamentals of vibration response control devices and their practical applications in response mitigation of structures exposed to earthquake, wind, and wave loading Offers a comprehensive overview of each passive damper, its functioning, and mathematical modeling in a dynamical system Covers practical aspects of employing the passive control devices to some of the benchmark problems that are developed from existing buildings and bridges in different countries worldwide Includes MATLAB® codes for determining the dynamic response of single degree of freedom (SDOF) and multi-degree of freedom (MDOF) systems along with computational models of the passive control devices This book is aimed at senior undergraduate students, graduate students, and researchers in civil, earthquake, aerospace, automotive, mechanical engineering, engineering dynamics, and vibration control, including structural engineers, architects, designers, manufacturers, and other professionals.

This book was released on 2018-07-10 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An optimal active vibration absorber can provide guaranteed closed-loop stability and control for large flexible space structures with collocated sensors/actuators. The active vibration absorber is a second-order dynamic system which is designed to suppress any unwanted structural vibration. This can be designed with minimum knowledge of the controlled system. Two methods for optimizing the active vibration absorber parameters are illustrated: minimum resonant amplitude and frequency matched active controllers. The Controls-Structures Interaction Phase-1 Evolutionary Model at NASA LaRC is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the active vibration absorber for vibration suppression. Performance is compared numerically and experimentally using acceleration feedback. Lee-Glauser, Gina and Juang, Jer-Nan and Sulla, Jeffrey L. Langley Research Center...

Book Active Passive Hybrid Adaptive Structures for Vibration Controls An Integrated Approach

Download or read book Active Passive Hybrid Adaptive Structures for Vibration Controls An Integrated Approach written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this research is to develop, validate and evaluate novel active-passive hybrid adaptive structures for real-time vibration suppressions. These structures could have the advantages of both the passive (stable, low power requirement, tail-safe) and active (high performance, feedback actions) systems. Two types of smart structure configurations have been investigated and advanced: structures with enhanced active constrained layer (EACL) treatment, and structures with active-passive piezoelectric networks (APPN). Accomplishments include: (a) Robust control laws have been synthesized for APPN to compensate for uncertainties. (b) Nonlinear analysis and control methods have been developed to utilize the high authority actions of APPN. (c) The integrated EACL-APPN configuration has been analyzed, it is shown that both the narrowband and broadband controls can be achieved with such configurations (d) A detailed non-dimensional analysis on EACL performance has been developed to provide design guidelines. (e) A new hybrid constrained layer (HCL) configuration has been developed by mixing both active and passive materials to form hybrid coversheets - such a design can outperforms stems with pure active PZT coversheets.
