Book Integrated Library Systems

Download or read book Integrated Library Systems written by Desiree Webber and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2010-08-19 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers everything you need to know about selecting and implementing the best integrated library system (ILS) for your library, whether you purchase and install it yourself or hire a consultant to assist you. This is the book you've been waiting for. Integrated Library Systems: Planning, Selecting, and Implementing is an all-inclusive guide to acquiring a new ILS. Detailed and practical, the book covers every step of the process, from cost-benefit analysis, to evaluating software, writing the request for proposal, and implementation and training. You'll learn about different types of integrated library systems—standalone, turnkey, hosted, software-as-a-service (cloud computing), and open-source—and how to assess your facility and staff to find the best fit. The book also covers evaluation of software and hardware; third-party add-ons, such as RFID; and writing successful budget proposals and justification statements. There is even specific, headache-saving advice on working with sales reps, such as the warning not to ever accept the statement: "The vendor will not be held accountable to the contents of the RFP." Even if you're working with a consultant, this book will help you understand the process and make informed decisions.

Book The Integrated Medical Library

Download or read book The Integrated Medical Library written by Ms. Helis Miido and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-04-15 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1991, Library automation has advanced at such a rapid pace within the last few years that librarians who have been limited by either budget or hardware constraints are today able to automate at least some library functions. Even though presentations at meetings describing individual efforts have been published in the literature, there has not been a comprehensive text discussing the status of integration at all levels of library management as it exists today. The Integrated Medical Library addresses this need by presenting the results of a survey of automated systems currently used in medical libraries as a basis on which to discuss various methods for integrating these systems. This includes serials, cataloging, circulation, acquisitions, internal database management systems, external database search procedures, and management and financial control. The book emphasizes current practices and procedures and proposes methods for libraries to improve their performance and services. Part I defines an integrated online library system and describes the study design and analysis of results. Part II describes commercially available integrated online library systems currently used by medical libraries. Part III discusses the specialized integrated online library systems of the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the Swedish Planning and Rationalization Institute for the Health and Social Services. Part IV describes ad hoc integrated functions currently used by medical libraries, while Part V discusses the various means of integration.

Book Making the Most of Your ILS

Download or read book Making the Most of Your ILS written by Lynn E. Gates and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2022-12-01 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Systems administrators, librarians, and library staff will learn key principles and methods for securing their ILS and understand how to configure and optimize their library catalog by improving data management practices, streamlining existing workflows, and documenting their system's configuration. The integrated library system (ILS) plays a central role in every library's operations, but is your ILS optimized to ensure maximum productivity? Are you taking advantage of the features added since you implemented it? Walking readers through a wide-ranging ILS review, this book will help you ensure systems are properly configured, produce better documentation, and evaluate staff workflows. The authors-a director of collections and content and a director of user experience-created a comprehensive plan for reviewing an ILS, starting with planning the project and deciding whom to include. They discuss basic ILS security principles, including keeping patron data safe and the importance of reviewing staff permissions. After the basics, the authors go in-depth on reviewing codes and figuring out how different parts of an ILS work together as well as how to review those areas, and they offer ideas on how to stay up-to-date with your ILS, such as where to look for information on issues, updates, and new features. Several methods for analyzing and documenting workflows are also discussed.
