Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sugarcane crop, one of the most important crops commercially grown in about 115 countries of the world, faces a number of problems, such as low cane productivity, biotic and abiotic stresses, high cost of cultivation, postharvest losses, and low sugar recovery. This volume addresses these issues and provides a comprehensive account of the major advancements in sugarcane research. The book is compilation of recent achievements in sugarcane development and cultivation. It covers a number of improvements made in cane and sugar yield using both conventional and new biotechnological approaches by agricultural scientists and researchers. The comprehensive coverage includes sustainable sugarcane cultivation, development, and management of sugarcane production, covering farming and biotechnology, entomology, pathology, breeding, physiology, biotechnology, agronomy, seed production, and more. It also presents research on modern crop production methods in a comprehensive and easily understood manner. With chapters from expert researchers from internationally renowned institutes (primarily in India), the volume presents the latest information from the literature at the international level to make it usable to many agroecological regions of the world. It will be a valuable resource for agronomists, breeders, plant physiologists, farmers, and students of agricultural sciences.

Book Sugarcane Alternatives Sugar Biofuels and Environment

Download or read book Sugarcane Alternatives Sugar Biofuels and Environment written by Gururaj Hunsigi and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has three parts : First part deals with sugarcane production technology. Sugarcane yield decline world over is of serious concern and the remedial measures are proposed to attain quantum jump in sugar and cane production. This part deals in detail with a) various methods of cane planting, b) integrated nutrient management (INM) and use of bio-fertilization for sustainable production and c) mechanization in sugarcane production. Second part of the book deals with biofuels. Use of biomass energy is as old as human civilization. At present it is estimated to be in the range of 39 to 45 EJ (Exa joules, 10 18 J) out of global total energy demand of 410 EJ or 9.76 Gtoe (Gega tonne oil equivalent 10 9t). Dedicated biomass crops have been listed in the book. Third part of the book deals with environmental issues which take a center stage. Sugar industry in itself is not that polluting, but sugar-alcohol complexes are highly polluting because of the production of distillery spent wash (DSW). This part also deals with the production of organic manure from DSW and its usage. Mitigation of climate change has been alluded in the book.

This book was released on 2006 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication aims to improve the local awareness and understanding of different soils and how they can be managed for sustainable sugarcane production. Whilst growers can use the management guidelines directly for their different soils, the booklet also explains the way in which the nutrient management guidelines have been derived so that growers can make informed decisions on how to manage their soils. It also provides guidelines for interpreting soil and leaf analyses.

Book Integrated nutrients management An approach for sustainable crop production and food security in changing climates

Download or read book Integrated nutrients management An approach for sustainable crop production and food security in changing climates written by Amanullah and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-06-20 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soil health and fertility are continuously declining due to the removal of essential plant nutrients from the soils in the current changing climate scenario. Due to less soil organic carbon (SOC) and growing of high-yielding varieties and hybrids further increases deficiencies of both macro and micronutrients that had a negative impact on soil health, crop productivity, food security, and growers. Integrated nutrients management not only increases crop productivity and growers' income but also increases soil fertility, health, and sustainability in changing climates. Integrated nutrients management (INM) refers to the maintenance of soil fertility and improvement in crop productivity with the application of plant nutrients through the combined application of organic fertilizers (animal manures and plant residues), chemical fertilizers (urea, SSP, DAP, etc.) and bio-fertilizers (beneficial microbes).

Book Resources Use Efficiency in Agriculture

Download or read book Resources Use Efficiency in Agriculture written by Sandeep Kumar and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-09-18 with total page 762 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Achieving zero hunger and food security is a top priority in the United Nations Development Goals (UNDGs). In an era characterized by high population growth and increasing pressure on agricultural systems, efficiency in the use of natural resources has become central to sustainable agricultural practices. Fundamentally speaking, eco-efficiency is about maximizing agricultural outputs, in terms of quantity and quality, using less land, water, nutrients, energy, labor, or capital. The concept of eco-efficiency involves both the ecological and economic aspects of sustainable agriculture. It is therefore essential to understand the interaction of ecosystem constituents within the extensive agricultural landscape, as well as farmers’ economic needs. This book examines the latest eco-efficient practices used in agro-systems. Drawing upon research and examples from around the world, it offers an up-to-date overview, together with insights into directly applicable approaches for poly-cropping systems and landscape-scale management to improve the stability of agricultural production systems, helping achieve food security. The book will be of interest to educators, researchers, climate change scientists, capacity builders and policymakers alike. It can also be used as additional reading material for undergraduate and graduate courses on agriculture, forestry, soil science, and the environmental sciences.
