Book Airy Functions And Applications To Physics 2nd Edition

Download or read book Airy Functions And Applications To Physics 2nd Edition written by Olivier Vallee and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2010-06-17 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressed mainly to physicist and chemical physicist, this textbook is the result of a broad compilation of current knowledge on analytical properties of Airy functions. In particular, the calculus implying the Airy functions is developed with care. In the latter chapters, examples are given to succinctly illustrate the use of Airy functions in classical and quantum physics. The physicist, for instance in fluid mechanics, can find what he is looking for, in the references for works of molecular physics or in physics of surfaces, and vice versa. The knowledge on Airy functions is frequently reviewed. The reason may be found in the need to express a physical phenomenon in terms of an effective and comprehensive analytical form for the whole scientific community./a

Book Asymptotics and Mellin Barnes Integrals

Download or read book Asymptotics and Mellin Barnes Integrals written by R. B. Paris and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2001-09-24 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asymptotics and Mellin-Barnes Integrals, first published in 2001, provides an account of the use and properties of a type of complex integral representation that arises frequently in the study of special functions typically of interest in classical analysis and mathematical physics. After developing the properties of these integrals, their use in determining the asymptotic behaviour of special functions is detailed. Although such integrals have a long history, the book's account includes recent research results in analytic number theory and hyperasymptotics. The book also fills a gap in the literature on asymptotic analysis and special functions by providing a thorough account of the use of Mellin-Barnes integrals that is otherwise not available in other standard references on asymptotics.

Book Computation of Special Functions

Download or read book Computation of Special Functions written by Shanjie Zhang and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1996-07-26 with total page 752 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computation of Special Functions is a valuable book/software package containing more than 100 original computer programs for the computation of most special functions currently in use. These include many functions commonly omitted from available software packages, such as the Bessel and modified Bessel functions, the Mathieu and modified Mathieu functions, parabolic cylinder functions, and various prolate and oblate spheroidal wave functions. Also, unlike most software packages, this book/disk set gives readers the latitude to modify programs according to the special demands of the sophisticated problems they are working on. The authors provide detailed descriptions of the program's algorithms as well as specific information about each program's internal structure.

Book From Gauss to Painlev

Download or read book From Gauss to Painlev written by Katsunori Iwasaki and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives an introduction to the modern theory of special functions. It focuses on the nonlinear Painlevé differential equation and its solutions, the so-called Painlevé functions. It contains modern treatments of the Gauss hypergeometric differential equation, monodromy of second order Fuchsian equations and nonlinear differential equations near singular points. The book starts from an elementary level requiring only basic notions of differential equations, function theory and group theory. Graduate students should be able to work with the text."The authors do an excellent job of presenting both the historical and mathematical details of the subject in a form accessible to any mathematician or physicist." Book Asymptotic Methods for Integrals

Download or read book Asymptotic Methods for Integrals written by Nico M. Temme and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives introductory chapters on the classical basic and standard methods for asymptotic analysis, such as Watson's lemma, Laplace's method, the saddle point and steepest descent methods, stationary phase and Darboux's method. The methods, explained in great detail, will obtain asymptotic approximations of the well-known special functions of mathematical physics and probability theory. After these introductory chapters, the methods of uniform asymptotic analysis are described in which several parameters have influence on typical phenomena: turning points and transition points, coinciding saddle and singularities. In all these examples, the special functions are indicated that describe the peculiar behavior of the integrals. The text extensively covers the classical methods with an emphasis on how to obtain expansions, and how to use the results for numerical methods, in particular for approximating special functions. In this way, we work with a computational mind: how can we use certain expansions in numerical analysis and in computer programs, how can we compute coefficients, and so on.
