Book Almgren s Big Regularity Paper Q valued Functions Minimizing Dirichlet s Integral And The Regularit

Download or read book Almgren s Big Regularity Paper Q valued Functions Minimizing Dirichlet s Integral And The Regularit written by Vladimir Scheffer and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000-06-30 with total page 973 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fred Almgren exploited the excess method for proving regularity theorems in the calculus of variations. His techniques yielded Hölder continuous differentiability except for a small closed singular set. In the sixties and seventies Almgren refined and generalized his methods. Between 1974 and 1984 he wrote a 1,700-page proof that was his most ambitious development of his ground-breaking ideas. Originally, this monograph was available only as a three-volume work of limited circulation. The entire text is faithfully reproduced here. This book gives a complete proof of the interior regularity of an area-minimizing rectifiable current up to Hausdorff codimension 2. The argument uses the theory of Q-valued functions, which is developed in detail. For example, this work shows how first variation estimates from squash and squeeze deformations yield a monotonicity theorem for the normalized frequency of oscillation of a Q-valued function that minimizes a generalized Dirichlet integral. The principal features of the book include an extension theorem analogous to Kirszbraun's theorem and theorems on the approximation in mass of nearly flat mass-minimizing rectifiable currents by graphs and images of Lipschitz Q-valued functions.

Book A Garden of Integrals

    Book Details:
  • Author : Frank E. Burk
  • Publisher : American Mathematical Soc.
  • Release : 2007-12-31
  • ISBN : 1614442096
  • Pages : 281 pages

Download or read book A Garden of Integrals written by Frank E. Burk and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2007-12-31 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The derivative and the integral are the fundamental notions of calculus. Though there is essentially only one derivative, there is a variety of integrals, developed over the years for a variety of purposes, and this book describes them. No other single source treats all of the integrals of Cauchy, Riemann, RiemannStieltjes, Lebesgue, LebesgueSteiltjes, HenstockKurzweil, Weiner, and Feynman. The basic properties of each are proved, their similarities and differences are pointed out, and the reason for their existence and their uses are given. There is plentiful historical information. The audience for the book is advanced undergraduate mathematics majors, graduate students, and faculty members. Even experienced faculty members are unlikely to be aware of all of the integrals in the Garden of Integrals and the book provides an opportunity to see them and appreciate their richness. Professor Burk's clear and wellmotivated exposition makes this book a joy to read. The book can serve as a reference, as a supplement to courses that include the theory of integration, and a source of exercises in analysis. There is no other book like it.

Book Improper Riemann Integrals

Download or read book Improper Riemann Integrals written by Ioannis Markos Roussos and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-12-16 with total page 692 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Improper Riemann Integrals is the first book to collect classical and modern material on the subject for undergraduate students. The book gives students the prerequisites and tools to understand the convergence, principal value, and evaluation of the improper/generalized Riemann integral. It also illustrates applications to science and engineering problems. The book contains the necessary background, theorems, and tools, along with two lists of the most important integrals and sums computed in the text. Numerous examples at various levels of difficulty illustrate the concepts and theorems. The book uses powerful tools of real and complex analysis not only to compute the examples and solve the problems but also to justify that the computation methods are legitimate. Enriched with many examples, applications, and problems, this book helps students acquire a deeper understanding of the subject, preparing them for further study. It shows how to solve the integrals without exclusively relying on tables and computer packages.

Book Handbook of Mathematical Formulas and Integrals

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If there is a formula to solve a given problem in mathematics, you will find it in Alan Jeffrey's Handbook of Mathematical Formulas and Integrals. Thanks to its unique thumb-tab indexing feature, answers are easy to find based upon the type of problem they solve. The Handbook covers important formulas, functions, relations, and methods from algebra, trigonometric and exponential functions, combinatorics, probability, matrix theory, calculus and vector calculus, both ordinary and partial differential equations, Fourier series, orthogonal polynomials, and Laplace transforms. Based on Gradshteyn and Ryzhik's Table of Integrals, Series, and Products, Fifth Edition (edited by Jeffrey), but far more accessible and written with particular attention to the needs of students and practicing scientists and engineers, this book is an essential resource. Affordable and authoritative, it is the first place to look for help and a rewarding place to browse.
