Book Integers Polynomials and Rings

Download or read book Integers Polynomials and Rings written by Ronald S. Irving and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-01-08 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book began life as a set of notes that I developed for a course at the University of Washington entitled Introduction to Modern Algebra for Tea- ers. Originally conceived as a text for future secondary-school mathematics teachers, it has developed into a book that could serve well as a text in an - dergraduatecourseinabstractalgebraoracoursedesignedasanintroduction to higher mathematics. This book di?ers from many undergraduate algebra texts in fundamental ways; the reasons lie in the book’s origin and the goals I set for the course. The course is a two-quarter sequence required of students intending to f- ?ll the requirements of the teacher preparation option for our B.A. degree in mathematics, or of the teacher preparation minor. It is required as well of those intending to matriculate in our university’s Master’s in Teaching p- gram for secondary mathematics teachers. This is the principal course they take involving abstraction and proof, and they come to it with perhaps as little background as a year of calculus and a quarter of linear algebra. The mathematical ability of the students varies widely, as does their level of ma- ematical interest.

Book Ramsey Theory on the Integers

Download or read book Ramsey Theory on the Integers written by Bruce M. Landman and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2014-11-10 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ramsey theory is the study of the structure of mathematical objects that is preserved under partitions. In its full generality, Ramsey theory is quite powerful, but can quickly become complicated. By limiting the focus of this book to Ramsey theory applied to the set of integers, the authors have produced a gentle, but meaningful, introduction to an important and enticing branch of modern mathematics. Ramsey Theory on the Integers offers students a glimpse into the world of mathematical research and the opportunity for them to begin pondering unsolved problems. For this new edition, several sections have been added and others have been significantly updated. Among the newly introduced topics are: rainbow Ramsey theory, an "inequality" version of Schur's theorem, monochromatic solutions of recurrence relations, Ramsey results involving both sums and products, monochromatic sets avoiding certain differences, Ramsey properties for polynomial progressions, generalizations of the Erdős-Ginzberg-Ziv theorem, and the number of arithmetic progressions under arbitrary colorings. Many new results and proofs have been added, most of which were not known when the first edition was published. Furthermore, the book's tables, exercises, lists of open research problems, and bibliography have all been significantly updated. This innovative book also provides the first cohesive study of Ramsey theory on the integers. It contains perhaps the most substantial account of solved and unsolved problems in this blossoming subject. This breakthrough book will engage students, teachers, and researchers alike.

This book was released on 2014-09-05 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integer Algorithms in Cryptology and Information Assurance is a collection of the author's own innovative approaches in algorithms and protocols for secret and reliable communication. It concentrates on the “what” and “how” behind implementing the proposed cryptographic algorithms rather than on formal proofs of “why” these algorithms work. The book consists of five parts (in 28 chapters) and describes the author's research results in:This text contains innovative cryptographic algorithms; computationally efficient algorithms for information assurance; new methods to solve the classical problem of integer factorization, which plays a key role in cryptanalysis; and numerous illustrative examples and tables that facilitate the understanding of the proposed algorithms. The fundamental ideas contained within are not based on temporary advances in technology, which might become obsolete in several years. The problems addressed in the book have their own intrinsic computational complexities, and the ideas and methods described in the book will remain important for years to come.

Book Sums of Squares of Integers

Download or read book Sums of Squares of Integers written by Carlos J. Moreno and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2005-12-09 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sums of Squares of Integers covers topics in combinatorial number theory as they relate to counting representations of integers as sums of a certain number of squares. The book introduces a stimulating area of number theory where research continues to proliferate. It is a book of "firsts" - namely it is the first book to combine Liouville's elementary methods with the analytic methods of modular functions to study the representation of integers as sums of squares. It is the first book to tell how to compute the number of representations of an integer n as the sum of s squares of integers for any s and n. It is also the first book to give a proof of Szemeredi's theorem, and is the first number theory book to discuss how the modern theory of modular forms complements and clarifies the classical fundamental results about sums of squares. The book presents several existing, yet still interesting and instructive, examples of modular forms. Two chapters develop useful properties of the Bernoulli numbers and illustrate arithmetic progressions, proving the theorems of van der Waerden, Roth, and Szemeredi. The book also explains applications of the theory to three problems that lie outside of number theory in the areas of cryptanalysis, microwave radiation, and diamond cutting. The text is complemented by the inclusion of over one hundred exercises to test the reader's understanding.

Book Integer valued Polynomials

Download or read book Integer valued Polynomials written by Paul-Jean Cahen and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1997 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integer-valued polynomials on the ring of integers have been known for a long time and have been used in calculus. Polya and Ostrowski generalized this notion to rings of integers of number fields. More generally still, one may consider a domain $D$ and the polynomials (with coefficients in its quotient field) mapping $D$ into itself. They form a $D$-algebra - that is, a $D$-module with a ring structure. Appearing in a very natural fashion, this ring possesses quite a rich structure, and the very numerous questions it raises allow a thorough exploration of commutative algebra. Here is the first book devoted entirely to this topic. This book features: thorough reviews of many published works; self-contained text with complete proofs; and numerous exercises.

Book 50 Years of Integer Programming 1958 2008

This book was released on 2009-11-06 with total page 804 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1958, Ralph E. Gomory transformed the field of integer programming when he published a paper that described a cutting-plane algorithm for pure integer programs and announced that the method could be refined to give a finite algorithm for integer programming. In 2008, to commemorate the anniversary of this seminal paper, a special workshop celebrating fifty years of integer programming was held in Aussois, France, as part of the 12th Combinatorial Optimization Workshop. It contains reprints of key historical articles and written versions of survey lectures on six of the hottest topics in the field by distinguished members of the integer programming community. Useful for anyone in mathematics, computer science and operations research, this book exposes mathematical optimization, specifically integer programming and combinatorial optimization, to a broad audience.

Book excerpt: The images in this book are in color. For a less-expensive grayscale paperback version, see ISBN 9781680923254. Prealgebra 2e is designed to meet scope and sequence requirements for a one-semester prealgebra course. The text introduces the fundamental concepts of algebra while addressing the needs of students with diverse backgrounds and learning styles. Each topic builds upon previously developed material to demonstrate the cohesiveness and structure of mathematics. Students who are taking basic mathematics and prealgebra classes in college present a unique set of challenges. Many students in these classes have been unsuccessful in their prior math classes. They may think they know some math, but their core knowledge is full of holes. Furthermore, these students need to learn much more than the course content. They need to learn study skills, time management, and how to deal with math anxiety. Some students lack basic reading and arithmetic skills. The organization of Prealgebra makes it easy to adapt the book to suit a variety of course syllabi.
