Book Instrumentation for Measurement of Moisture

Download or read book Instrumentation for Measurement of Moisture written by L. F. Ballard and published by Highway Research Board. This book was released on 1973 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this study was to evaluate the suitability of existing instrumentation and techniques and to stimulate development of modified or new procedures to measure the amount and state of water in highway components, such as embankments, subgrades, base courses, pavements, and structures. In accomplishing this objective, the researchers conducted an extensive literature review. Those techniques that appear to be immediately applicable to highway problems were evaluated using a linear decision model for comparing instrument performance characteristics with specific moisture measurement needs. A comprehensive list of performance characteristics with which to make this comparison was compiled.

Book Electromagnetic moisture measurement

Download or read book Electromagnetic moisture measurement written by Christof Hübner and published by Göttingen University Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electromagnetic moisture measurement technologies have proven to be valuable tools in diverse applications. This monograph covers basic aspects of nondestructive electromagnetic methods of water content determination and relates to the associated highly multidisciplinary field of research and development. It also presents a comprehensive selection of relevant field-tested methods and instruments. The fundamentals of electromagnetic field interactions with dipolar materials are briefly discussed, with special attention towards the dielectric properties of water and aqueous solutions. A tutorial and overview of electromagnetic measurement methods is presented, including dielectric spectroscopy in broad frequency and time domains, as well as dielectric imaging techniques. This review is complemented by a demonstration of successful real-world implementations for the moisture determination of soils, snow, buildings and building materials, food and agricultural goods, as well as various industrial products. The text is completed by a guide concerning the use of reference liquids for the calibration of sensors and instrumentation and by a bibliography of more than 850 references. The monograph is useful as a reference book for researchers and engineers and as a textbook for upper-level students interested in the water content determination of materials.

Book Industrial Moisture and Humidity Measurement

Download or read book Industrial Moisture and Humidity Measurement written by Roland Wernecke and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-12-18 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Moisture analysis covers a variety of methods for measuring high levels of moisture, as well as trace amounts, in solids, liquids, or gases. There are many applications where trace moisture measurements are indispensable for manufacturing and for process quality assurance. Trace moisture in solids must be controlled for plastics, pharmaceuticals and heat treatment processes. Measurement applications in gases and liquids include, for example, drying processes, hydrocarbon processing, pure gases in the semiconductor industry, natural gas pipeline transport, the conditioning of food and other products. Written by experts with over 20 years of experience in the field, this one-stop guide covers all aspects of these measurements, including both the theory and a wealth of practical know-how. As such, it includes guidelines on installation, on the realization of standards for absolute and relative humidity, verification and traceability measurements, equipment calibration methods and the latest research developments. Backed by numerous case studies, this practical book serves the needs of those working in the industry tasked with performing or developing new techniques and processes for moisture and humidity measurement. As a result, the scientist or engineer has all the information required for accurate, reliable, economically viable and efficient moisture measurement.

Book Methods of Measuring Moisture in Building Materials and Structures

Download or read book Methods of Measuring Moisture in Building Materials and Structures written by Lars-Olof Nilsson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-04-13 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: RILEM TC 248-MMB was established in 2012 with the main aim to improve and distribute knowledge related to moisture measurement in construction materials in various scientific and industrial applications. Properties and performance of building materials and structures are influenced to a large extent by the moisture conditions in the materials. Obvious examples are heat conductivity, shrinkage and creep, transport properties, most types of deterioration, discoloration etc. For research and applications the moisture conditions must be quantified, by measurements in the laboratory or under field conditions. There is much variation in methods being used, even within the same topic, in different countries, both with regard to materials and to applications. No consensus whatsoever does exist. For the construction industry it is important to be able to quantify the moisture conditions in an accurate way in various applications. This state-of-the-art report is divided into two parts, Principles and Applications, with altogether 28 chapters on various moisture measuring principles and a number of applications.

Book Instrumentation for Moisture Measurement bases Subgrades and Earth Materials sensor Evaluation

Download or read book Instrumentation for Moisture Measurement bases Subgrades and Earth Materials sensor Evaluation written by G. A. Matzkanin and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two types of moisture sensors for long term in situ monitoring of moisture in highway subgrade soils have been developed and field tested. One sensor is based on the relationship between the soil moisture and the dielectric constant of the soil which affects the capacitance as sensed by a pair of embedded electrodes. The other sensor is based on the nuclear magnetic resonance of hydrogen of the water molecules in the soil. Results of the evaluation program show that the tested sensors are capable of determining soil moisture content in the range of 20% to 30% with an accuracy in the field of ±2% oven dry moisture content and a precision of ±2% oven dry moisture content. The sensors were evaluated in the field for over a year under in-service highways in Arizona and Pennsylvania, and under a test road at the U.S. Army Cold Regions Research Laboratory in New Hampshire. Periodic comparisons were made among the sensor readings and results of other moisture measurements including nuclear probe and gravimetric analysis of borings. Although some discrepancies were observed among the field results, and the field tests were not conclusive, the data obtained with the newly developed sensors appear to be consistent with the indicated moisture conditions.
