Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Instrument Transformers" serves as an indispensable guide for electrical engineers and professionals navigating the complexities of measuring high-voltage currents and potentials. In the realm of electrical engineering, direct measurement of voltages and currents in the "kilo" or "mega" range presents significant challenges, not only due to the sheer magnitude of these values but also because of the safety and accuracy concerns involved. Instrument transformers, including current transformers (CTs), potential transformers (PTs), and capacitive voltage transformers (CVTs), emerge as critical tools in mitigating these challenges, enabling precise and safe measurements by converting high values to more manageable levels. This book delves into the crucial aspects of instrument transformers, offering a comprehensive exploration of their design, operation, and application within electrical systems. By providing detailed technical data and insights, it aims to equip readers with the knowledge needed to effectively utilize these transformers in real-world settings. The focus extends beyond theoretical understanding, emphasizing practical solutions to the technical problems that electrical engineers frequently encounter in their fieldwork. Whether it's for performance evaluation, quality analysis, or the smooth and safe operation of electrical systems, "Instrument Transformers" stands as a vital resource. It promises not only to enlighten its readers on the fundamental principles and applications of instrument transformers but also to guide them through troubleshooting and problem-solving processes, ensuring efficiency and safety in electrical measurement and control operations.

Book Transient Performance of Capacitive Voltage Transformers

Download or read book Transient Performance of Capacitive Voltage Transformers written by Tiruvaipati Srinivas Sirish and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-06-18 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transient response of the voltage on the secondary is investigated with following changes in the model. Two instants of switching are considered. Instrument transformers are the integral components of power systems .Capacitive Voltage Transformers (CVTs) are widely used for protection, metering and control applications. The work presents the modeling of CVT by its equivalent circuit. A 420kV CVT is considered with a line to ground fault on the primary side. Another kind of transient response called ferro resonance is also studied. Three types of ferro resonance suppression circuits (FSCs) are considered to dampen the behavior due to ferro resonance The parameters of these FSCs are discussed. The impedance, power characteristics of these FSCs with variation of frequency are studied. Furthermore, using metal oxide varistors are used to improve the performance of the FSCs.The two switching instants in presence of FSC are also evaluated .The effect of FSCs on the transient response of CVTs are presented in this work. The effect of magnetizing current of intermediate voltage transformer on the transient response is also simulated.
