Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Instructions in Gymnastics We would especially recommend to teachers of gymnastics and leaders of the same, to adhere strictly to the rule of dividing their classes equally, according to strength and ability, and in all cases retain the gradation of the exercises in the regular order as they may follow each other. Pupils should likewise be classed according to their expertness. These classes should not consist of more than ten pupils, and each class should have its separate leader. Teachers should be particular to have their scholars conform to the rules and regulations. The leaders of the different classes should be selected by the teacher from the best pupils of the highest rank. N o difficult exercises should be attempted until the easier ones are performed with ease and safety. Pupils should by all means avoid bad habits, such as making grimaces, stretching out the tongue, puffing the cheeks, and other contortions oi' the body. Book The Gymnastic Polymachinon

Download or read book The Gymnastic Polymachinon written by James Chiosso and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gymnastic Polymachinon: Instructions for Performing a Systematic Series of Exercises on the Gymnastic Calisthenic Polymachinon In a former Treatise I considered Gymnastics as an essential branch of popular education, and an invaluable remedial agent in many forms of chronic disease; and the favourable reception of that work by the press and public, together with the daily extending interest manifested in this important subject, have induced the publication of this little manual. For while the Author views with pleasure the advance of physical education, he is aware that many, who would willingly adopt exercise as a hygienic or curative medium, either have not access to gymnasiums, or are deterred through ignorance of the movements they should adopt, as well as from fear of the evils resulting from indiscriminate and violent exertion; and for such, the following series of scientifically arranged exercises will be found admirably suited, as the Polymachinon combines perfect safety, with all the essential elements of the most elaborate gymnasium. History of the Polymachinon. Bodily exercise, to be of use, not temporarily but permanently, must be of such a nature as to act gradually on the various complicated sets of motors of the body in every possible way, from the head to the feet, without the chance of their receiving the least strain; and the first efforts to produce an instrument, by which this might be securely effected, were made by the author in the year 1829. These met with signal success, and were fully appreciated by all who placed themselves under his care; amongst whom might be mentioned many eminent members of the medical profession. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Light Gymnastics: A Guide to Systematic Instruction in Physical Training IT is now generally admitted by educators that the pupils in our institutions of learning need some kind of systematized physical training in connection with their mental work. The action of the foremost educators in the world, the faculties of our leading colleges, permitting the expenditure of many hundreds of thousands of dollars on magnificent gymnasiums, Strengthens the assertion. The example thus set must be and is being followed by the public and private schools. They are gradually introducing gymnastics as a part of their course of study. Teachers are responsible for the physical condition of their pupils while in their charge. If they are ignorant of the simple laws of health and gymnastics, their pupils will suffer on account of it. It may be said in the teachers' defense, however, that Should they desire the knowledge that would fit them to teach physical training from professional teachers of the subject, they could spare neither the time nor money to acquire it; consequently they must obtain this from books. Book Hints to Gymnasts

Download or read book Hints to Gymnasts written by Ferdinand Graf and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hints to Gymnasts: Being Sound Advice and Hints to Leaders and Teachers in Gymnasia and Schools IN compiling this book our object has been to bring within the reach of those Teachers of Physical Education, Amateur or Professional, who have not had an Opportunity of going through a proper Course of Instruction in Gymnastics, a means of acquiring the necessary knowledge to enable' them to fulfil their duties in a creditable manner. Notwithstanding the many laudable efforts made by several Institutions, notably the Orion and German Gymnastic Clubs, the British College of Physical Education, the Amateur Gymnastic and Fencing Association, and recently the Gymnastic Teachers' Institute, to spread a more scientific knowledge of Gymnastics among Leaders and Instructors, our experience, extending over 20 years, has taught us that the great majority of Provincial Teachers have still much to learn as to the benefits to be derived from a system of teaching based on scientific principles. There are, of course, notable exceptions, but these only tend to prove more conclu sively the truth of our assertion. It is, of course, impossible for us in these few pages to entirely cover the whole field of gymnastics, but it is hoped that our readers may find therein the groundwork whereby they may be enabled to teach a more modernised system than that which now generally obtains. Much of the matter that appears in this book has been published in the columns of the gymnast' and athletic review, but knowing from personal experience how desirable it is to have Articles and Exercises such as these in handy book form, we have, at the repeated request of many of our readers, decided to so publish them, and we trust that it may be the means of popularising a better Gymnastic knowledge among a class of Gymnasts who have no other means of making themselves acquainted with the art of teaching others. Book The Special Kinesiology of Educational Gymnastics Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Special Kinesiology of Educational Gymnastics Classic Reprint written by Nils Posse and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-13 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Special Kinesiology of Educational Gymnastics Since the second edition of The Swedish System of Educational Gymnastics became exhausted, and a third edition was rendered necessary, I have used the opportunity to rewrite and elaborate the book so as to make it more suitable as a text-book for students of gymnastics. While I have deemed it desirable to change the title into Special Kinesiology, - it being a treatise on the mechanics, effects, and classification of special exercises, - the subject-matter still describes the Swedish system of educational gymnastics. I consider the change warranted, partly because of the vaster scope of the book, partly because gymnastics is fast passing into the stage where prefixes of nationality must disappear, and where the broadness of its spirit must leave its imprint even on the name. This, however, does not oppose the fact that Swedish gymnastics must be the basis of all rational gymnastics, since, to-day, it is the only system whose details have been elucidated by and derived from mechanics, anatomy, physiology, and psychology, and whose theory has survived the scrutiny of scientists all over the world; so that, whatever the name or form of the gymnastics of the future, the Swedish system will be its frame, as, even now, we see it transforming and absorbing all so-called systems. Book Power and Health Through Progressive Exercise Classic Reprint

Download or read book Power and Health Through Progressive Exercise Classic Reprint written by George Elliot Flint and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Power and Health Through Progressive Exercise It must not be thought, however, that this book deals wholly with heavy gymnastics, weight-lifting, and feats of strength. Many light exercises are given as being valuable to promote elasticity and suppleness; and, in addi tion to these, - as an apprenticeship of mode rate exercises is absolutely necessary in order that one may become capable of the simplest exhibition of force, - many intermediate exer cises are carefully described, and their effects discussed. The effects of common indoor and outdoor athletic sports and exercises are gone into. All which, it is hoped, will make this volume a complete manual of physical culture, suitable alike for those boys and girls, men and women, who may wish, without the aid of a teacher, to make the best of their bodies.
