Book Managing Institutional Self Study

Download or read book Managing Institutional Self Study written by Watson, David and published by McGraw-Hill Education (UK). This book was released on 2005-02-01 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the use of evidence in the leadership and management of universities and colleges. The role of institutional self-study in establishing strategy and measuring progress is examined across the full range of institutional activities, with many worked examples. Practical guidance is also set in the context of theory about organisational learning within complex enterprises at the start of the 21st century, as well as an account of the state of the art within higher education in the UK, with some international comparisons. Because of the nature of the business – knowledge production and use –universities should be better at organisational learning than they are. This book shows how disciplined self-study can assist decision-making, general effectiveness and reputational positioning for universities and colleges. The book explores why self-study matters, the key processes and techniques, as well as what can be delivered. In addition to the internal drivers to enhance self-study capacity and practice, institutions are increasingly required to produce explicit and transparent accounts of their activities and performance to external bodies, to support marketing, to respond to multiple stakeholders and to meet external reporting and regulatory requirements. At the heart of the book is the case for the development of the university or college as a mature, self-reflective community, making full use of its analytical and other resources.

Book In the Nation s Compelling Interest

Download or read book In the Nation s Compelling Interest written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2004-06-29 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States is rapidly transforming into one of the most racially and ethnically diverse nations in the world. Groups commonly referred to as minorities-including Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, African Americans, Hispanics, American Indians, and Alaska Natives-are the fastest growing segments of the population and emerging as the nation's majority. Despite the rapid growth of racial and ethnic minority groups, their representation among the nation's health professionals has grown only modestly in the past 25 years. This alarming disparity has prompted the recent creation of initiatives to increase diversity in health professions. In the Nation's Compelling Interest considers the benefits of greater racial and ethnic diversity, and identifies institutional and policy-level mechanisms to garner broad support among health professions leaders, community members, and other key stakeholders to implement these strategies. Assessing the potential benefits of greater racial and ethnic diversity among health professionals will improve the access to and quality of healthcare for all Americans.

Book China s Higher Education Reform and Internationalisation

Download or read book China s Higher Education Reform and Internationalisation written by Janette Ryan and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2011-03-07 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite radical and fundamental reform of the Chinese higher education system, very little is known about this outside China. The past decade has seen radical reform of all levels of China’s education system as it attempts to meet changing economic and social needs and aspirations: this has included transformation of university curricula, pedagogy and evaluation measures, rapidly increasing joint research and degree programmes between Chinese universities and universities abroad, and very large numbers of Chinese students studying at universities outside China. This book describes the historical, cultural, intellectual and contemporary background and contexts of the reform and internationalisation of higher education in China. It discusses these changes, outlines the challenges posed by the changes for university administrators, faculty, researchers, students and those working with Chinese academics and students in China and abroad, and assesses the impact, and evaluates the success, of the changes. Most importantly, it considers how this mobility of people and ideas across educational systems and cultures can contribute to new ways of working and understanding between Western and Chinese academic cultures. The book is a companion to Education Reform in China, which focuses on reform at the early childhood, primary and secondary levels.

This book was released on 2005-12-05 with total page 853 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this Handbook is to present a global overview of developments in education and policy change during the last decade. Book How to Improve Leadership in Higher Education Institutions

Download or read book How to Improve Leadership in Higher Education Institutions written by Ismail Noriey and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2017-09-18 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study explores how leaders in higher education (directors, principals, vice presidents, and presidents) in Kurdistan perceive leadership and the leadership skills required to make them effective. It also examines the challenges that leaders face in leading and managing their institution and how to improve their leadership. Knowledge sharing is acknowledged as the most significant resources for competitive advantage and the key to improving innovation. The knowledge management and the promotion of knowledge sharing among the members of an organization are a vital part of the learning process, as they help to convert the tacit knowledge. This research has an interest in understanding research participants subjective experiences as well as their general perception of the participative leadership in order to decide on the position as a researcher to adopt differing ontological, epistemological, and methodological assumptions that underpin each paradigm in turn or ways of viewing by educational research. The aim is to accomplish this in a way that influences me to position myself philosophically as a researcher that is a mix of interpretivist with positivist. The study data analysis adopted an interpretive approach and attempted to address the research questions through developing a structured interview and questionnaire guide to facilitate the collection of data. This is because some of participates (twenty-three) accepted questionnaire only. The sample in this mixed-methods case study is to investigate the perspective of the small cohort of fifteen leaders comprising ten males and five females currently or recently holding senior positions in the HEls in Kurdistan in two state and five private universities, and they accepted face-to-face interviews. The finding showed that the nature of leadership for leaders in higher education are complex, demanding, and requires a combination of leadership skills and management. This study captures insights about the four aspects that define leadership, which are leadership is distinct from management, leadership relates to leaders characteristics, leadership is about influencing, and leadership requires a vision. Correspondingly, there is data about leadership skills required for future university leaders to make them effective, such as communication skills. And there dis data about the four main challenges based on the findings, which are difficultly in sharing the leaders vision, poor communication skills, lack of self-confidence, and lack of motivation. Finally, it shows the ways in which leadership of university leaders could be improved, such as length of experience, and it highlights the possible inadequacies of formal leadership development for academic leaders in higher education in Iraqi Kurdistan.
