Download or read book Installation Restoration Program Stage 3 McClellan AFB California Remedial Investigation Feasibility Study Groundwater Sampling and Analysis Program January Through March 1989 Data Summary written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Data Summary presents the results of groundwater sampling activities conducted on and in the vicinity of McClellan Air Force Base from the sampling period of January through March, 1989. Concentrations of purgeable halocarbons and aromatic compounds detected in 336 wells (26 monitoring wells are located on base in Area A, B, C, D, and adjacent on-base areas and off-base in the Northwest and Southwest areas. There was no detected increase in the areal extent of contaminated groundwater, nor was there any increase in the depth that contaminated groundwater was detected. The Area D extraction system is effectively operating to change hydraulic gradients, so groundwater in Area D flows toward the extraction wells. Contaminant concentrations have decreased in Area D deep zone monitoring wells. Samples from three middle zone monitoring wells located in Area D also show decreases in contaminant concentration during this sampling period. Decreasing contaminant concentrations have stabilized in shallow zone monitoring wells located off-base, west of Area D.

This book was released on 1988 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concentrations of purgeable halocarbon and aromatic compounds detected in samples collected from 40 monitoring wells and Six Area D extraction wells exceeded state and federal drinking water standards. These 32 monitoring wells are located on base in Areas A, B, C, D, and Adjacent On-Base Areas, and off-base in the Northwest and Southwest Areas. There was no definable increase from the previous sampling period (1 April through 30 June, 1988). The Area D extraction system is effectively operating to change hydraulic gradients based on differences in hydraulic heads specified for the system. Contaminant concentrations continue to decrease in deep zone monitoring wells. Samples from several middle zone monitoring wells show and decreasing trend except for this sampling period when concentrations increased. Decreasing contaminant concentrations have recently stabilized in shallow zone monitoring wells located outside the extraction system well-field. (FR).

This book was released on 1991 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1979, officials at McClellan Air Force Base (AFB) in California began to suspect that past waste disposal practices may be contaminating the ground water in the area. At least four areas of potential ground water contamination needing further investigation. A comprehensive program was developed to maintain drinking water quality and to remediate the contamination. Through the operation and maintenance of aircraft, McClellan AFB has been engaged in operations that involve the use, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials including: industrial solvents, caustic cleaners, electroplating chemicals, heavy metals, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), low-level radioactive wastes, and a variety of fuel oils and lubricants. Hazardous substances have percolated into aquifers. Ground water testing identified the presence of volatile organic compounds in on- and off-base wells. Surface water drainage includes several creeks within the area watersheds. These creeks receive contaminants and toxic hazards from on base drainage and then in turn merge with several tributaries, and exit to the west.

Book Installation Restoration Program IRP Stage 3 Groundwater Sampling and Analysis Program for McClellan Air Force Base California January Through March 1993 Data Summary

Download or read book Installation Restoration Program IRP Stage 3 Groundwater Sampling and Analysis Program for McClellan Air Force Base California January Through March 1993 Data Summary written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Data Summary presents the results of groundwater sampling activities conducted on and in the vicinity of McClellan Air Force Base during the sampling period of January through March 1993. Concentrations of purgeable hydrocarbons and aromatic compounds detected in wells (42 monitoring wells, 6 extraction wells, 1 extraction well composite, and 1 background well) exceeded state and/or federal drinking water standards. Like the Fourth Quarter 1992, 25 monitoring wells exceeded the maximum concentration levels (MCLs) for one or more inorganic analysts in the First Quarter 1993, compared to 10 wells in the Third Quarter 1992. The reason for the increase is due to the change in sampling procedure (nonfiltering of inorganics). These wells are located in Sectors A, B, C. and D.

Download or read book Installation Restoration Program Stage 3 McClellan Air Force Base written by RADIAN CORP SACRAMENTO CA. and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Semiannual Informal Technical Report summarizes the interpretive results for analytical and hydrologic data obtained during groundwater sampling and analysis at McClellan AFB from August 1979 through the First Quarter 1988. The data are used to evaluate the occurrence and migration of groundwater contaminants, to assess the variability in the sampling and analytical processes, to identify any hydrologic and analytical trends developing with time, and to evaluate the effectiveness of the Area D extraction system. The occurrence and migration of Trichloroethene(TCE) in the groundwater was evaluated. Several factors controlling the direction of contaminant flow and the rate of contaminant migration were discussed. These include the effects of pumping by active base production wells and the Area D extraction wells. Keywords: Water pollution abatement, Installation restoration program. (kt).

Download or read book Installation Restoration Program IRP Stage 3 Finding of No Significant Impact Operable Unit B Engineering Evaluation Cost Analysis Environmental Assessment and Removal Action written by RADIAN CORP SACRAMENTO CA. and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Department of the Air Force has prepared an Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis and assessment of environmental impact to respond to contaminated ground water in Operable Unit (OU) B at McClellan AFB, California. Proposed action involves: (1) installation of extraction wells; (2) extraction of contaminated ground water; (3) treatment of extracted groundwater; and (4) release of the treated groundwater. Additional ground water monitoring, abandonment of a contaminated production well, continued extraction from a production well, and restriction on the use of a third production well are also proposed as integral parts of the restoration and water reclamation activity. This action only covers short-term measures to reduce the potential for increased health risks from the migration of higher concentrations of contaminants to on- and off-base water supply wells.

Book Installation Restoration Program Stage 5 Informal Technical Information Report Analytical Data Summary Preliminary Pathways Assessment Surface Water and Stream Sediment Samples

Download or read book Installation Restoration Program Stage 5 Informal Technical Information Report Analytical Data Summary Preliminary Pathways Assessment Surface Water and Stream Sediment Samples written by RADIAN CORP SACRAMENTO CA. and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This letter report presents the analytical results and data evaluation for surface water and stream sediment sampling performed at McClellan AFB in January and February, 1989. Results are also provided from a geophysical investigation that was performed to locate possible underground storage tanks at five locations on McClellan AFB. All work was performed in accordance with the Draft Preliminary Pathways Assessment Work Plan, September 1988. Information obtained during this preliminary investigation, indicates that manufactured organic compounds and metals exist in some of the creeks and drainages at McClellan AFB. The data indicate that low-level contamination potentially originates from both on-base and off-base sources. Results from the geophysical investigation indicated a low probability of having underground storage tanks at three locations. Two of the five locations investigated were identified as having a high probability of having underground tanks. (jes).
