Book Enzyme Biocatalysis

Download or read book Enzyme Biocatalysis written by Andrés Illanes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-06-19 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written with the purpose of providing a sound basis for the design of enzymatic reactions based on kinetic principles, but also to give an updated vision of the potentials and limitations of biocatalysis, especially with respect to recent app- cations in processes of organic synthesis. The ?rst ?ve chapters are structured in the form of a textbook, going from the basic principles of enzyme structure and fu- tion to reactor design for homogeneous systems with soluble enzymes and hete- geneous systems with immobilized enzymes. The last chapter of the book is divided into six sections that represent illustrative case studies of biocatalytic processes of industrial relevance or potential, written by experts in the respective ?elds. We sincerely hope that this book will represent an element in the toolbox of gr- uate students in applied biology and chemical and biochemical engineering and also of undergraduate students with formal training in organic chemistry, biochemistry, thermodynamics and chemical reaction kinetics. Beyond that, the book pretends also to illustrate the potential of biocatalytic processes with case studies in the ?eld of organic synthesis, which we hope will be of interest for the academia and prof- sionals involved in R&D&I. If some of our young readers are encouraged to engage or persevere in their work in biocatalysis this will certainly be our more precious reward.

Classification of immobilized enzymes. Covalently linked, adsorbed, and matrix-entrapped enzymes represent stage II, research on the microenvironment. Microencapsulation represents stage III, research on the intracellular environment. Further subdivision of microencapsulated enzymes will be found in Chapter 12. 4 T. M. S. CHANG matrix entrapment. In this section, detailed discussions will center on clinical analysis, urine analysis, monitoring of environmental pollution, radioimmune assay, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, enzyme electrodes, and other approaches involving immobilized enzymes, antibodies, and antigens. In the final section, research workers describe and discuss the perspectives of immobilized enzymes and proteins. Here, they speculate on the future potential of possible approaches, even though these may not have been extensively studied or tested at the laboratory stage. The biomedical applications of enzymes and proteins, especially in the thera peutic area, is in a very early stage of development. Much remains to be explored and studied, and the area is wide open for investigators interested in original research in a new interdisciplinary area. References Chang, T. M. Book Principles of Enzyme Kinetics

Download or read book Principles of Enzyme Kinetics written by Athel Cornish-Bowden and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-20 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles of Enzyme Kinetics discusses the principles of enzyme kinetics at an intermediate level. It is primarily written for first-year research students in enzyme kinetics. The book is composed of 10 chapters. Chapter 1 provides the basic principles of enzyme kinetics with a brief discussion of dimensional analysis. Subsequent chapters cover topics on the essential characteristics of steady-state kinetics, temperature dependence, methods for deriving steady-state rate equations, and control of enzyme activity. Integrated rate equations, and introductions to the study of fast reactions and the statistical aspects of enzyme kinetics are provided as well. Chemists and biochemists will find the book invaluable.

Book Carrier bound Immobilized Enzymes

Download or read book Carrier bound Immobilized Enzymes written by Linqiu Cao and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-05-12 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first systematic overview of this key technique since the early 1990s, this authoritative reference is the only handbook available to include all recent developments. The author draws on his wide-ranging experience in both academia and industry to systematically cover all types of enzyme immobilization methods, such as adsorption-based and covalent immobilization, as well as enzyme entrapment and encapsulation. Throughout, a careful review of materials and techniques for the generation of functional immobilized enzymes benefits both developers and users of carrier-bound enzymes. A must for biotechnologists, biochemists and preparative chemists using enzymes in their daily work.

Book Biotechnological Applications of Proteins and Enzymes

Download or read book Biotechnological Applications of Proteins and Enzymes written by Zvi Bohak and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biotechnological Applications of Proteins and Enzymes contains the proceedings of a conference honoring the 60th birthday of Israeli scientist Ephraim Katchalski-Katzir, held at Kiryat Anavim, Israel, on May 23-27, 1976. The papers focus on the applications of proteins and enzymes in biotechnology, medicine, and nutrition. It provides an extensive biography of Ephraim Katchalski-Katzir and a discussion of his pioneering efforts in biotechnological applications of proteins and enzymes. Organized into four sections comprised of 20 chapters, this compilation begins with an overview of applied research in non-industrial laboratories. Then, it discusses the enzymes and their production, exploitation of soluble and insolubilized enzymes, medical applications of enzymes and proteins, and use of proteins as food. Individual chapters look at protein immobilization and affinity chromatography, cells and enzymes as industrial catalysts, exploitation of multienzyme systems for synthesis, biotransformation of steroid hormones and antibiotics, and the role of zinc in normal and abnormal growth processes. It explains the applications of antibodies, use of immobilized enzymes in analysis, some medical applications of immobilized proteins and enzymes, and interaction of food proteins with water and lipids. The book concludes with a chapter on muscle and connective tissue proteins as food. This book will be of interest to biochemists, biologists and microbiologists, biotechnologists, food technologists, and others involved in research on the biotechnological applications of proteins and enzymes.
