Book Insect Repellents Handbook Second Edition

Download or read book Insect Repellents Handbook Second Edition written by Mustapha Debboun and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-09-19 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The public has a great desire for products that prevent the annoyance of biting insects and ticks, but that desire does not always translate into sensible use of those products. Insect Repellents Handbook, Second Edition summarizes evidence-based information on insect repellents to inform decisions by those involved with insect repellent research, development, and use. This authoritative, single-source reference makes it possible for you to quickly gain a working level of expertise about insect repellents, without having to search through the scattered literature. The previous edition was the first comprehensive volume on this subject and quickly became the definitive reference on insect repellents. This second edition reflects the current state of insect repellent science, covers the processes involved in the development and testing of new active ingredients and formulations, and discusses the practical uses of repellents. The book includes thought-provoking discussions on how repellents work, their neuromolecular basis of action, and whether green chemistry can provide effective repellents. It also supplies an in-depth understanding of the development of repellents including testing methods, review of active ingredients, and the use of chemical mixtures as repellents. It provides science-backed chapters on repellent use including best practices for use of personal protection products, criteria for repellent use, and insect repellents for other potential use.

Book Handbook of Natural Pesticides

Download or read book Handbook of Natural Pesticides written by N. Bhushan Mandava and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-07-15 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook series includes several naturally occurring chemicals that exhibit biological activity. These chemicals are derived from plants, insects, and several microorganisms. Volume I of this series is covers the theory and practice of the strategies for pest control and methods for detection. Moreover, it presents extensive tables that provide the information you need to select the most appropriate bioassay for a particular plant growth regulator or hormone. In addition to the chapters on bioassays, Volume I provides a solid introduction to the theory and practice of natural pesticide use, including in-depth discussions of integrated management systems for weed and pest control, the state-of-the-art use of computers in pest management, and allelochemicals as natural protection. Guidelines on toxicological testing and EPA regulation of natural pesticides are also detailed.

Book Insecticides of Plant Origin

Download or read book Insecticides of Plant Origin written by J. T. Arnason and published by Washington, DC : American Chemical Society. This book was released on 1989 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Papers delivered at a symposium in Toronto, June 1988. Among the topics covered are the isolation, synthesis, structures, and biological activity of a wide range of natural plant products; transgenic strategies for exploiting insecticides as behavior- modifying antifeedants, repellents, and oviposition deterrents; and the use of botanical insecticides as lead compounds for the synthesis of new pesticides. Practical applications are described through field trials. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Book Handbook of Natural Pesticides

Download or read book Handbook of Natural Pesticides written by E. David Morgan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-04-19 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume addresses chemical interactions between insects and plants, such as feeding and ovipositional attractants and deterrents. It begins with a general introduction to insects in a chemical world. Included is a discussion of molecular biology and genetics in insect control, with respect to potentially inserting the genes for the synthesis of a protective substance into a crop plant. Also covered is the detoxification of plant substances by insects. This volume is especially helpful for chemists and biologists in the field of pesticide research.

  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2007-05-08

Download or read book Insect Chemoreception written by M.F. Ryan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this time of edited volumes when the list of individual contributors may reach double figures, it is appropriate to question the usefulness of a volume, with such a broad scope, by a single author. The answer is simple. For years he has believed that the rather sharp distinction between fundamental and applied aspects of this discipline, has ill-served the significance of each; and has diminished the incidence of fruitful synergies. Yet the need for these was never greater, and this case may be developed by a single author with experience of each aspect. The inclusion of a Chapter on Genetic Engineering may raise some doubts, but it is enabled by the chosen title “Chemoreception”, as distinct from Chemoperception: the latter implies detection of a chemical, followed by a behavioural response. But the former broader category subsumes Chemoperception and allows for the reception of a chemical toxin so potent as to prelude a behavioural or physiological response, other than death. Accordingly, chemical toxins are a legitimate inclusion. In which event, their delivery through a GM plant is as appropriate for study as their application in a spray.

Download or read book Neem written by National Research Council and published by The Minerva Group, Inc.. This book was released on 2002-06 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neem is a fascinating tree. On the one hand, it seems to be one of the most promising of all plants and may eventually benefit every person on the planet. Probably no other yields as many strange and varied products or has as many exploitable by-products. Indeed, as foreseen by some scientists, this plant may usher in a new era in pest control, provide millions with inexpensive medicines, cut down the rate of human population growth, and perhaps even reduce erosion, deforestation, and the excessive temperature of an overheated globe. On the other hand, that all remains only a vague promise. Although the enthusiasm may be justified, it is largely founded on empirical or anecdotal evidence. Our purpose here is to marshal the various facts about this little-known species, to help illuminate its future promise, and to speed realization of its potential. This report has been produced by the National Research Council particularly for nonspecialists such as government ministers, research directors, university students, private voluntary organizations, and entrepreneurs. It is intended as an economic development document, not a scientific monograph.
