Book Sustainability in Practice

Download or read book Sustainability in Practice written by Walter Leal Filho and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-10-17 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainability is now a widely spread concept, and much progress has been achieved since the 1970s, when it started to be widely discussed. At present, many international organizations and scientists are active in implementing sustainable development as a whole and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in particular. Nevertheless, the main research agenda is being led by some countries, providing a good opportunity for other nations and regions which have not yet been so active, to bring their viewpoints to the global discussion. One of these regions is Latin America. Consistent with the need for more cross-sectorial and cross-cultural interactions among the various stakeholders working in the field of sustainability in Latin America and beyond, this book pursues two main aims: a) to provide research institutions, universities, NGOs, government agencies, and enterprises from the region with an opportunity to present their works in the field of sustainability and b) to document and promote ideas and experiences acquired in the execution of sustainability projects, especially successful initiatives and good practice across the Latin America region. Last but not least, a further aim of the book is to present methodological approaches and experiences deriving from case studies and projects, which aim to show how sustainability may be enhanced in practice.

This book was released on 2012-11-01 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Americas and Oceania: Assessing Sustainability provides extensive coverage of sustainability practices in two regions linked culturally and historically by their relative isolation before the Columbian exchange, by their colonization after it, and by the challenges of pollution, resource overuse, and environmental degradation. Regional experts and international scholars focus on environmental history in areas such as the South Pacific islands, now particularly threatened by rising ocean levels due to climate change, and on countries whose governments and corporations can play a major role in promoting or discouraging sustainable choices: Brazil, an emergent power on the world stage; the United States, the world's third most populous nation; and New Zealand, seemingly on its way to becoming an enviable model of sustainable development.

Book Global City Regions

Download or read book Global City Regions written by Allen J. Scott and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2001-01-25 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are now more than three hundred city-regions around the world with populations greater than one million. These city-regions are expanding vigorously, and they present many new and deep challenges to researchers and policy-makers in both the more developed and less developed parts of the world. The processes of global economic integration and accelerated urban growth make traditional planning and policy strategies in these regions increasingly inadequate, while more effective approaches remain largely in various stages of hypothesis and experimentation. 'Global City-Regions' represents a multifaceted effort to deal with the many different issues raised by these developments. It seeks at once to define the question of global city-regions and to describe the internal and external dynamics that shape them; it proposes a theorization of global city-regions based on their economic and political responses to intensifying levels of globalization; and it offers a number of policy insights into the severe social problems that confront global city-regions as they come face to face with an economically and politically neoliberal world. At a moment when globalization is increasingly subject to critical scrutiny in many different quarters, this book provides a timely overview of its effects on urban and regional development, one of its most important (but perhaps least understood) corollaries. The book also offers a series of nuanced visions of alternative possible futures.

Book Travel from Usa Mexico and Central America in an Airplane Piper Colt 108

Download or read book Travel from Usa Mexico and Central America in an Airplane Piper Colt 108 written by Lupercio Rangel and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-09-24 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: February was always a good month to start new activities and have new projects. One of them was to buy a large sailboat to make a solo trip from Long Beach (California) to the city of Santos in Brazil. I gave up that idea because I was not sufficiently healthy for that long trip. My next idea was to make the trip in a small aircraft 108 that I owned. It was an aircraft easy to fly and economical. Piper Colt 108 is a first tricycle aircraft built by Piper, two passages, side by side seat. This was my plan for the adventure, flying from Las Vegas in Nevada through the Americas, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama.

Book Cultural Leadership in Transition Tourism

Download or read book Cultural Leadership in Transition Tourism written by Elena Borin and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-10-05 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cultural tourism has proved to be a significant source of economic development for cultural destinations, but it has also emerged as a sometimes potentially controversial and unsustainable phenomenon. The recent pandemic has also pointed out that we need different models of development of tourism, that include a more balanced approach to cultural components in cities and rural areas. Calls have been made on the need to design more sustainable models of tourism development for cultural destinations, conceiving tourism as a means to increasing the quality of life and generating economic opportunities in cities and regions by involving their communities and stakeholders. This book presents an in-depth analysis of the transition towards more sustainable models of cultural tourism development. Starting from the ongoing debate on cultural ecosystems, the book explores the potential key role of cultural and creative organizations as leaders of change. Including theoretical contributions, quantitative and qualitative analyses and international case studies, the book explores the role of cultural actors as leaders and their potential as drivers of culture-led innovation for tourism in cities and regions.
