Book Input output Analysis the Turnpike Theorem and Economic Development

Download or read book Input output Analysis the Turnpike Theorem and Economic Development written by Robert D. Corbin and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1930's there were major contributions to the economic theory by Keynes, Leontief, and Van Neumann. Since much of the world was in the grips of a fierce depression, Keynes' timely General Theory became the much discussed economic controversy, as economics came to realize what everyone else knew too well, that unemployment could exist. During this period, the works of Leontief and von Neumann went relatively unknown. As economists became familiar with "Keynesian Economics," as interpreted by Hansen, the broad macro-model became a guide to government monetary and fiscal policy. However, Leontief continued to disaggregate these macro-models by dividing the economy into various industries and tracing thought the network of inputs and outputs. The early 1950's witnessed to Leontief publications out of the Harvard Research Project, and by now von Neumanns' article had been translated. Further, George Dantzig had developed the simplex method to solve linear programming, and electronic computers were rapidly developing to solve both the Leontief input-output and linear programming problems. Then in 1958, Dorfman, Samuelson, and Solow published their work on linear programming . These historical events lead to the topics of this paper. Many of the seemingly unrelated topics are brought together in a unified treatment, with a focus on the application of input-output analysis to develpment. Unfortunately the mathematical nature of the material has often presented a barrier to the prospective student. It is hoped that the present work will help bridge this gap.

Book Input output Economics

Download or read book Input output Economics written by Wassily Leontief and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1986 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of writings provides the only comprehensive introduction to the input-output model for which Leontief was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1973. The structural approach to economics developed by Leontief, and known as input-output analysis, paved the way for the transformation of economics into a truly empirical discipline that could utilize modern data processing technology. This thoroughly revised second edition includes twenty essays--twelve of which are new to this edition--that reflect the past developments and the present state of the field. Beginning with an introductory chapter, the book leads the reader into an understanding of the input-output approach--not only as formal theory but also as a research strategy and powerful tool for dealing with a complex modern economy.

Book Economic Structure and Maturity Collected Papers in Input output Modelling and Applications

Download or read book Economic Structure and Maturity Collected Papers in Input output Modelling and Applications written by Ranko Bon and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-26 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2000: A collection of Ranko Bon's papers on input-output analysis and its applications. The underlying feature of the papers is a focus on the supply-side input-output model, which better predicts the behaviour of mature economic sectors, such as agriculture and mining, than the demand-sided model. The construction sector is especially relevant in the context of economic stability and maturity issues, as it offers an index of economic maturity for entire economies. This is the main theme that evolves through the papers collected in the book.

Book The Economics of Input Output Analysis

Download or read book The Economics of Input Output Analysis written by Thijs ten Raa and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-01-19 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Input-output analysis is the main tool of applied equilibrium analysis. This textbook provides a systematic survey of the most recent developments in input-output analysis and their applications, helping us to examine questions such as: which industries are competitive? What are the multiplier effects of an investment program? How do environmental restrictions impact on prices? Linear programming and national accounting are introduced and used to resolve issues such as the choice of technique, the comparative advantage of a national economy, its efficiency and dynamic performance. Technological and environmental spillovers are analysed, both at the national level (between industries) and the international level (the measurement of globalisation effects). The book is self-contained, but assumes some familiarity with calculus, matrix algebra, and the microeconomic principle of optimizing behaviour. Exercises and review questions are included at the end of each chapter, and solutions at the end of the book.

Book Input output Analysis

Download or read book Input output Analysis written by M. Giaschini and published by Springer. This book was released on 1988-06 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twenty-two chapters included in this book were written by as many scholars working independently of each other in different countries. They present, nevertheless, a well integrated picture of systematic advance in the field of input-output analysis on the broad front, stretching from formal mathematical modelling, through construction of large, specialized databases to detailed empirical inquiry and concrete examples of practical applications. While reflecting a great variety of individual interests and working styles, these contributions taken together provide evidence of what might appear to be co ordinated efforts. This coherence has not been brought about by the central guidance so typical of modern large-scale research. It simply reflects the internal discipline and cohesiveness of a particular methodological approach. In input-output analysis, empirical inquiry and theoretical model building have to be carried out hand-in-hand. If the aim of the investigation is to provide concrete, detailed explanation of observed reality, building an elaborate mathematical model makes little sense without an appropriate database. The language and the terminology used in the construction of that database must, however, be exactly the same as that employed in the formulation of the theoretical model. The same specifications and definitions must, of course, be adhered to - after the theoretical computations have been completed - in the interpretation of the numerical results.

Book Advances in Input Output Analysis

Download or read book Advances in Input Output Analysis written by William Peterson and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1991-11-14 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Input-output analysis, developed by Nobel Prize winner Wassily Leontief, continues to be a vital area of research. Not only do academics find it a powerful tool in understanding how large scale economies--especially national economies--work, but many governments maintain computer input-output models to study their own economies. This important volume of work contains the latest research using the I-O model, focusing primarily on technology, planning, and development. The book derives from a conference held in Sapporo, Japan, in July, 1986.

Book Regional Input output Modelling

Download or read book Regional Input output Modelling written by John Hugh Llewelyn Dewhurst and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of papers written for a conference held in September 1989. The papers deal with topics of current debate in regional and inter-regional input-output groups: a set which consider the internal analysis of input-output tables; a set which consider sophisticated regional analysis based on regional tables; and a set that considers the problems of using input-output tables in more complex models of regional and inter-regional economies. The papers strike a balance reviewing the current practice in input-output analysis and suggesting possible avenues for future development of the area.
