This book was released on 2016-03-30 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an overview of municipal solid waste recycling, and how it can be used to generate clean power, transport fuels that can substitute fossil fuels, and value-based chemicals with minimal environmental impact. It also explains how hazardous wastes and sewage sludge can be treated and disposed of without affecting human and environmental health. A full discussion of established thermal conversion technologies that generate heat, electricity, liquid fuels and useful chemicals from solid waste and supporting case studies describing global waste-to-energy plants in operation make this work highly suited to an introductory course on waste thermal conversion processes.

Download or read book Molecular and Cellular Mechanisms of Synaptopathies Emerging Synaptic aging related molecular pathways in Neurological Disorders written by Dario Maschi and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-01-11 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Synapses are complex, highly specialized biological structures. Therefore, even slight functional disturbance can lead to disruptive brain disorders. Dysfunction of these structures is associated with a variety of aging-related neurodegenerative conditions, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Most synaptopathies compromise complex signaling pathways by progressively affecting the synaptic protein repertoire. Currently, the treatment of most of these pathologies focuses on the mitigation of symptoms; in consequence, further efforts need to be made to elucidate the common molecular culprit and cellular mechanisms underlying the cause of these severe pathologies to serve as therapeutic targets for clinical applications. In this Research Topic, we aim to discuss synaptic dysfunction as a causal factor for aging-related neurodegenerative diseases. Despite the recent technological advances that allow identifying the individual synaptic components affected in these synaptic pathologies, we know little about how they impact the synaptic function. To promote the discussion around the molecular and functional connection, we primarily welcome original research, review, and perspective articles emphasizing the relationship between synaptic function and the proteins or mechanisms affected.
Download or read book Worldwide Merger Notification Requirements written by George L. Paul and published by Wolters Kluwer. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 962 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although international mergers continue to become more common, merger control regimes are wildly diverse, and there is no procedurally harmonized international system of merger notification. Instead, any one of the plethora of inconsistent regulations can hold up your transaction. The current edition of Worldwide Merger Notification Requirements evaluates the merger notification requirements of over 215 jurisdictions. In this book, the leading authorities at White & Case provide a complete road map for parties contemplating a multinational transaction by highlighting the disparate ways in which competition authorities treat mergers, including differences in notification timing; filing fees; turnover, size, and post-merger market share thresholds; potential penalties; volume and type of required filing information; and the multitude of standards and definitions that pervade every multinational transaction. This is an easy way for you to avoid time-consuming and costly bureaucratic obstacles! Wherever you may be advising on a merger, Worldwide Merger Notification Requirements will let you immediately determine: Where do I have to seek regulatory approval? When am I required to request approval: pre-merger, post-merger or is notification voluntary? Which countries do not require regulatory approval? How long does the approval process take? What key substantive issues will the agency examine? How much will it cost? And more!

Download or read book The Healthcare Imperative written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2011-01-17 with total page 852 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States has the highest per capita spending on health care of any industrialized nation but continually lags behind other nations in health care outcomes including life expectancy and infant mortality. National health expenditures are projected to exceed $2.5 trillion in 2009. Given healthcare's direct impact on the economy, there is a critical need to control health care spending. According to The Health Imperative: Lowering Costs and Improving Outcomes, the costs of health care have strained the federal budget, and negatively affected state governments, the private sector and individuals. Healthcare expenditures have restricted the ability of state and local governments to fund other priorities and have contributed to slowing growth in wages and jobs in the private sector. Moreover, the number of uninsured has risen from 45.7 million in 2007 to 46.3 million in 2008. The Health Imperative: Lowering Costs and Improving Outcomes identifies a number of factors driving expenditure growth including scientific uncertainty, perverse economic and practice incentives, system fragmentation, lack of patient involvement, and under-investment in population health. Experts discussed key levers for catalyzing transformation of the delivery system. A few included streamlined health insurance regulation, administrative simplification and clarification and quality and consistency in treatment. The book is an excellent guide for policymakers at all levels of government, as well as private sector healthcare workers.
