Book Practical Inorganic Chemistry

Download or read book Practical Inorganic Chemistry written by G. Pass and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In revising the text opportunity has been taken to introduce SI units throughout. An Appendix has been included which contains tables of SI units and a table of conversion factors for use when consulting data in non-SI units. Chapter 19 now includes experiments demon strating the use of ion-exchange and solid-liquid chromatography_ Exercises involving colorimetry have been included in Chapter 17. These techniques are introduced as part of a complementary exercise where their relevance is seen as part of a complete piece of work. Minor improvements have been made to some of the experimental procedures and we are grateful to those who have made helpful suggestions in this respect. G. PASS H. SUTCLIFFE iii Preface to the First Edition The student of inorganic chemistry is fortunate in having a wide choice of textbooks covering the descriptive and theoretical aspects of the sUbject. There is no comparable choice of textbooks covering practical inorganic chemistry. Moreover, there is a tendency for many students to draw an unfortunate distinction between chemistry taught in the lecture room, and laboratory work. Consideration of these points prompted the preparation of this book, in which we have attempted to emphasize the relationship between theory and practice.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Inorganic Chemistry: Theoretical and Practical; With an Introduction to the Principles of Chemical Analysis, Inorganic and OrganicAs a consequence of these alterations it became absolutely necessary that a text-book for the use of students of classes connected with the Science and Art Department should include the whole of the subject-matter indicated in this recent addition to the syllabus. In order to attain this end I have carefully te-written the whole book, and, disturbing the original plan as little as possible, have incorporated with it any additional matter required to make it fully meet the requirements of both students and teachers. A number of additional questions have been added to those given at the end of the book. In particular, greater attention is given to the exercises on chemical calculations a number of typical examples are selected and worked out in detail, in order to illustrate the prin ciples involved. In this edition the paragraphs are num bered and have side headings. The more important statements and definitions are printed in bolder type. These modifications will, I hope, be of assistance to the student.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Integrated Approach to Coordination Chemistry

Download or read book Integrated Approach to Coordination Chemistry written by Rosemary A. Marusak and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2007-03-30 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coordination chemistry is the study of compounds formed between metal ions and other neutral or negatively charged molecules. This book offers a series of investigative inorganic laboratories approached through systematic coordination chemistry. It not only highlights the key fundamental components of the coordination chemistry field, it also exemplifies the historical development of concepts in the field. In order to graduate as a chemistry major that fills the requirements of the American Chemical Society, a student needs to take a laboratory course in inorganic chemistry. Most professors who teach and inorganic chemistry laboratory prefer to emphasize coordination chemistry rather than attempting to cover all aspects of inorganic chemistry; because it keeps the students focused on a cohesive part of inorganic chemistry, which has applications in medicine, the environment, molecular biology, organic synthesis, and inorganic materials.

Book Inorganic Chemistry

Download or read book Inorganic Chemistry written by P. A. Cox and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2000 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Teaching aids throughout the text have been carefully designed to help students learn effectively. The many worked examples take students through each calculation or exercise step by step, and are followed by related self-study exercises tackling similar problems with answers to help develop their confidence. In addition, 560 end-of-chapter problems reinforce learning and develop subject knowledge and skills. Definitions boxes, checklists and chapter summaries provide excellent revision aids while further reading suggestions from tropical articles to recent literature papers will encourage students to explore topics in more depth."--BOOK JACKET.

Book A Course of Instruction in the Qualitative Chemical Analysis of Inorganic Substances Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Course of Instruction in the Qualitative Chemical Analysis of Inorganic Substances Classic Reprint written by Arthur A. Noyes and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-18 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Course of Instruction in the Qualitative Chemical Analysis of Inorganic Substances The Course of Instruction includes two sections - one entitled Labora tory Experiments, giving the directions for the laboratory work; and the other entitled Questions on the Experiments, consisting of a series of ques tions to be studied in'connection with the class-room exercises. The laboratory work described in the section on Laboratory Experiments is from beginning to end closely correlated with the systematic scheme of analysis. For experience has convinced the author that the plan followed in many text-books of requiring the student to study the separate reactions characteristic of the various elements before undertaking their systematic separation is highly unsatisfactory. However valuable the knowledge of the additional reactions might be, it is found in practice that the perform ance of so large a number of independent, disconnected experiments makes little impression on the student's mind and fails to awaken his interest in the subject. Qualitative analysis affords an efiective means of teaching a part of inorganic chemistry chiefly because it unites into a connected whole a great variety of isolated facts, and because the student sees a practical use of the information presented to him; but these advantages evidently do not apply to facts not directly related to the process of analysis. The Questions on the Experiments do not in general include such purely informational questions as are immediately suggested by the Notes on the Procedures. They are mainly intended to assist the instructor in training his students more fully in the general principles involved and in enabling them to derive from the subject the mental training it is capable of afford ing. They are in large part of such a character that, in order to answer them properly, the student must not only carefully study the Notes on the Procedures, but must also do independent thinking. It is assumed in these questions, as well as in the Notes on the Procedures, that the student has previously acquired, in his course on Inorganic Chemistry, a general knowl edge oi the mass - action law and of the chemical aspects of the ionic theory. To what extent the instructor will make use of the Questions will depend on the time available for the course and on the maturity of his students.
