Book excerpt: L'objectif principal de cet essai est de définir les enjeux et les mécanismes de transition vers une société durable. La situation environnementale et sociale du dernier siècle démontre une dégradation de la qualité de vie humaine ainsi que de la qualité de l'environnement. Certaines considérations économiques pourraient expliquer les valeurs à la source de mauvaises décisions politiques. De plus, les prospectives d'avenir semblent démontrer une détérioration de cette situation dans l'avenir suite à l'échec de la société à apporter des solutions efficaces. Suite à l'analyse des philosophies et des mouvements politiques écologiques, il est important de concevoir que le développement d'une qualité de vie optimale dans une société nécessite le maintien de la qualité de l'environnement. Ceci a permis de démontrer que le concept de développement durable ne peut, à lui seul, changer suffisamment le modèle capitaliste de société pour assurer sa viabilité à long terme. Une société durable doit être capable de faire face aux enjeux sociaux relatifs aux comportements humains ainsi qu'aux enjeux environnementaux. Les enjeux environnementaux étant de se développer au sein des limites entropiques et de la capacité de support de la biosphère. Pour y parvenir, il est nécessaire de redéfinir la vision, les objectifs et les fondements de la société. Ceci implique de modifier la manière d'exploiter les ressources terrestre afin de répondre aux besoins de chaque individu ainsi que de mener les échanges entre les individus afin d'assurer une distribution équitable. L'analyse des mécanismes de changement de valeurs a permis d'identifier que les réseaux sociaux peuvent être employé afin de mener une transition adéquate vers un modèle de société durable. Cependant, il a aussi été établi qu'une proportion de la population va nécessairement résister à cette dernière. Cette résistance peut se manifester dans toutes les sphères de la société, y compris dans la structure de gouvernance actuelle, et détenir suffisamment de pouvoir pour freiner toute tentative de transition. Pour y parvenir, il est recommandé de mettre en place une bonne gouvernance, mais aussi de procéder par l'information et l'éducation des gens sur les causes à la source des problématiques environnementales et sociales actuelles.

C’est alors à travers l’appréciation du renchérissement progressif du coût d’opportunité de l’inaction, lié à l’évolution de la norme collective de durabilité, que les entreprises tendent à recourir à des innovations sociales et environnementales susceptibles de conforter leur légitimité et leur profitabilité. De ce double impératif, visant à conforter la stratégie de pérennité de l’entreprise, sont déterminées les frontières évolutives, incertaines et continues de la RSE pour une entreprise donnée. In fine, le développement durable apparaît comme source d’une progressive mutation structurelle du capitalisme vers un inéluctable rapprochement de la Société.

The ‘National Multiplication Trainings’ Programme under DIES is further addressing the sustainability and multiplication of the DIES Programme, that is, alumni are enabled to implement capacity building in higher education leadership and management in their national context. The articles within this volume of the “Potsdamer Beiträge zur Hochschulforschung” (Potsdam Contributions to Higher Education Research) analyse and share the experiences of such training programmes held in Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea, Malaysia, Kenya, and Uganda.
