Book Initial Lab and Sky Test Results for the Teledyne Imaging System s H4RG 10 CMOS hybrid 4k Visible Array for Use in Ground and Space based Astronomical and SSA Applications

Download or read book Initial Lab and Sky Test Results for the Teledyne Imaging System s H4RG 10 CMOS hybrid 4k Visible Array for Use in Ground and Space based Astronomical and SSA Applications written by Bryan N. Dorland and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report on the first set of laboratory and telescope tests of the Teledyne Imaging System's (TIS) H4RG-10 CMOS-Hybrid visible focal plane array (FPA). This family of detectors has been chosen as the baseline for USNO's proposed J-MAPS space astrometry mission to close a number of capability gaps. While this FPA has been designed for precision astrometry, it has potentially significant Space Situational Awareness (SSA) applications. Because of the hybrid design, which consists of separate readout and detector layers connected by Indium bump-bonds, this FPA has the readout flexibility of advanced CMOS readout integrated circuits (ROICs), including non-destructive readout, random access windowing and selective reset, and near-CCD performance in terms of fill factor, quantum efficiency, read noise and dark current. Our laboratory testing, performed at Goddard Space Flight Center's Detector Characterization Lab, includes measures of absolute spectral quantum efficiency, flat-field response uniformity, read noise, dark current as a function of operating temperature, inter-pixel crosstalk, and persistence. Sky testing, performed at Naval Observatory Flagstaff Station, consists of astrometric and photometric performance characterization. We discuss implications for the use of this detector in future ground- and space-based astrometric, astronomical and SSA applications.

Book Initial Laboratory and Sky Testing Results for the Second Generation H4RG 10 4k X 4k 10 Micron Visible CMOS Hybrid Detector

Download or read book Initial Laboratory and Sky Testing Results for the Second Generation H4RG 10 4k X 4k 10 Micron Visible CMOS Hybrid Detector written by Bryan N. Dorland and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present the initial performance test results for the H4RG-10 (A2), the second generation of the H4RG-10 visible CMOS-Hybrid Sensor Chip Assembly (SCA). The first science grade H4RG-10 (A2), delivered in 2009, is an evolution of the first generation A1, first delivered and tested in 2007. The H4RG-10 is primarily intended for ground- and space-based astronomical applications. Our evaluation focused on the performance parameters as they are related to astrometric applications. We find that the A2 SCA shows high pixel interconnect (99.6%), and low read noise (10-15 e- RMS) when operated at high speeds, consistent with A1 results. Most importantly, the H4RG-10 (A2) shows a dramatic improvement in dark current vs. the A1, with a two order of magnitude reduction in mean dark level and significantly reduced hot pixel population below 200 K.

Book Laboratory and Sky Testing Results for the TIS H4RG 10 4k X 4k 10 micron Visible CMOS hybrid Detector

Download or read book Laboratory and Sky Testing Results for the TIS H4RG 10 4k X 4k 10 micron Visible CMOS hybrid Detector written by Bryan N. Dorland and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present both laboratory and telescope testing results describing the performance of the H4RG-10 CMOS-Hybrid detector. The H4RG-10 is the largest visible hybrid array currently in existence and shows great potential for use in future space missions. We report read noise, dark current, pixel connectivity, persistence, and inter-pixel capacitance measurements for the temperature range 110-240 K. We report on quantitative astrometric and qualitative photometric performance of the instrument based on observations made at USNO's Flagstaff Station observatory and establish an upper limit to the astrometric performance of the detector. We discuss additional testing and future work associated with improving detector performance.

Book Precision Asteroseismology IAU S301

Download or read book Precision Asteroseismology IAU S301 written by Joyce A. Guzik and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-03-27 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: IAU Symposium 301 highlights the recent advances in the field of asteroseismology and was the twenty-first in a series of pulsation meetings started in Los Alamos in 1971 and held every two years. Topics discussed centred around seismic studies of all types of pulsating stars, which - in the era of space observations made by MOST, CoRoT and Kepler - use data of unprecedented precision. The Symposium was also the opportunity to honour Wojtek Dziembowski, one of the world's leaders in the study of solar and stellar pulsations. Highlights include contributions on observing from space and the ground, techniques of analysis and mode identification, astrophysical applications of pulsations, pulsation-convection interaction, mass loss, microphysics, pulsations in main-sequence stars, compact stars and supergiants, and solar-like oscillations. Containing many excellent reviews, this volume is an important reference source for researchers on solar and stellar pulsations.

Book EXCEDE II

Download or read book EXCEDE II written by Robert R. O'Neil and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: EXCEDE is a program designed to study atmospheric infrared emissive processes induced by a rocketborne electron accelerator in the altitude range 80 to 140 km. The primary scientific interest is the investigation of the detailed production and loss processes of various excited electronic and vibrational states resulting in optical and infrared emission as energetic primary electrons and their secondary and all subsequent generation electrons are stopped in the atmosphere. The electron-induced optical and infrared emissions simulate natural auroral processes with the very significant advantage that the dosing conditions of electron energy and power, deposition volume and altitude, and dosing duration are parameters that may be controlled and monitored. To date, three payloads have been launched in the EXCEDE series of artificial auroral experiments. The program status is reviewed and a follow on experiment, EXCEDE II, is described. Both rocket-based and ground-based imaging and spectro-radiometric instruments are proposed. The feasibility of the scientific approach, the magnitude of the atmospheric emissions, the capabilities of ground-support systems, and the engineering design of the proposed experiment are extensions of the technology base established in the earlier EXCEDE launches. Download or read book Cosmic Explosions written by J.M. Marcaide and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-28 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supernovae are among the most energetic phenomena in the Universe and - lated to almost all aspects of modern astrophysics including starburst gal- ies, cosmic ray acceleration, neutron star and black hole formation, nuc- osynthesis and ISM chemical enrichment, energy input to the ISM, cosmic distance scale determination, dark energy related cosmological acceleration, gamma-ray bursts, extra-solar system neutrino burst detection, gravity wave generation, and many more. Additionally, the past 15 years have been p- ticularly productive with many new results and new understanding due in particular to the closest SN in 400 years in SN 1987A in the Large M- ellanic Cloud, and the unusually bright and close SN 1993J and SN 1994I in the nearby galaxies M81 and M51, respectively. In addition, the disc- ery of the ?-ray burst GRB 980425 and its related supernova SN 1998bw, and the con?rmation of GRB 030329/SN 2003dh, tied the study of SNe and GRBs inextricably together. With the many developments since the last - jor supernova meeting in La Serena, Chile in 1997, we felt that it was an appropriate time to bring together experts and students interested in the subject for a meeting where SN and GRB properties and interrelationships could be discussed. The tenth anniversary of SN 1993J provided such an - portunity and, appropriately, the meeting was held in Spain where SN 1993J was discovered on the early morning of 28 March 1993 by a Spanish amateur astronomer, Francisco Garc ́ ?a.
