A scan of the publications in related conference proceedings and journals highlights the diversity of the discipline areas which contribute to both the ri- ness and the complexity of Web Engineering. The 5th International Conference on Web Engineering (ICWE2005), held in Sydney, Australia, extends the traditions established by the earlier conferences in the series: ICWE2004 in Munich, Germany; ICWE2003 in Oviedo, Spain; ICWE2002 in Santa Fe, Argentina; and ICWE2001 in Caceres, ́ Spain. Not only have these conferences helped disseminate cutting edge research within the ?eld of Web Engineering, but they have also helped de?ne and shape the discipline itself.TheprogramwehaveputtogetherforICWE2005continuesthisevolution. Indeed, we can now begin to see the maturing of the ?eld. For possibly the ?rst time, there was very little debate within the Program Committee about which papers were in and out of scope, and much more debate as to the each papers contributions to the ?eld.

HCSE 2010 is the third working conference of IFIP Working Group 13.2, Methodologies for User-Centered Systems Design. The goal of HCSE is to bring together researchers and practitioners interested in strengthening the scientific foundations of user interface design, examining the re- tionship between software engineering and human-computer interaction and focusing on how to strengthen user-centered design as an essential part of software engineering processes. As a working conference, substantial time was devoted to the open and lively discussion of papers. The interest in the conference was positive in terms of submissions and partici- tion. We received 42 contributions that resulted in 10 long papers, 5 short papers and 3 poster papers. The selection was carried out carefully by the International Program Committee. The result is a set of interesting and stimulating papers that address such important issues as contextual design, user-aware systems, ubiquitous environments and usability evaluation. The final program of the conference included a keynote by Liam Bannon with the title “Approaches to Software Engineering: A Human-Centred Perspective.” This talk raised a lot of interesting questions for IFIP WG 13.2 and might have had some - pact for participants to become a member of the working group. We hope that participants considered HCSE 2010 as successful as its two p- desessors in terms of interesting discussions and new ideas for scientific co-operation.

Book excerpt: In this chapter we state that metrics and indicators are key, reusable organizational assets for providing suitable data and information for analyzing, recommending, and ultimately making decisions. In a nutshell, the metric represents the specification of a measurement process that transforms an entity attribute (i.e., the input; such as a security property) into a measure (i.e., the output, which is data), and the (elementary) indicator is the specification of an evaluation process, which has as input a metric’s measure and produces an indicator value (i.e., information). There is abundant literature on ICT security and risk assessment, but very often basic issues such as why, what, how, when, who, and where to measure and evaluate are weakly intertwined and specified. One hypothesis in our research is that, without appropriate recorded metadata of information needs, attributes, metrics, and indicators, it is difficult to ensure that measure and indicator values are repeatable and consistently comparable among an organization’s measurement and evaluation (M&E) projects. We show the added value of metrics and indicators as informational resources for M&E processes, illustrating a couple of them from a system security practical case.
