Book DURIP97 Infrared Cavity Ringdown Laser Absorption Spectroscopy Metal Containing Clusters and HEDM Molecules

Download or read book DURIP97 Infrared Cavity Ringdown Laser Absorption Spectroscopy Metal Containing Clusters and HEDM Molecules written by Richard Saykally and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A high resolution infrared cavity ringdown laser absorption spectrometer has been developed to study proposed HEDM molecules and metal containing clusters. Using a novel tunable pulsed Alexandrite ring laser, we are able to generate tunable visible radiation with ca, 40 MHz bandwidth. This tunable visible light is downconverted to the infrared using stimulated Raman scattering in H2 and D2. With this system, tunable radiation from the UV to the far infrared can be generated with ca, 100 MHz bandwidth. We will test this system using our pulsed supersonic laser vaporization source to study both metal and carbon containing species. Infrared Cavity Ringdown Spectroscopy has also been used to study water clusters in both pulsed supersonic beams and pulsed discharged nozzles.

Book Infrared Cavity Ringdown Spectroscopy of Hydrocarbon Ions and Clusters in Fast Ion Beams

Download or read book Infrared Cavity Ringdown Spectroscopy of Hydrocarbon Ions and Clusters in Fast Ion Beams written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of this effort were as follows: (1) extend the technical development of pulsed infrared (IR) cavity ringdown spectroscopy to longer wavelengths and higher spectral resolution; (2) develop its capacity as a general tool for trace gas analysis; and (3) study spectra, structures, hydrogen tunneling dynamics of hydrocarbon ions and complexes of relevance to ion-enhanced combustion processes. High-resolution, pulsed infrared cavity ringdown laser spectroscopy was developed and implemented for the study of carbon clusters and hydrocarbon ions. Several supersonic molecular beam sources of ions and hydrocarbons were constructed and tested by infrared cavity ringdown spectroscopy. The Stokes downconversion of pulsed visible laser radiation into the mid-infrared was explored in solid and liquid hydrogen media in an effort to explore more powerful and convenient infrared sources. Cavity ringdown studies of several different carbon/hydrocarbon systems were carried out. Nine related publications and three conference presentations are listed.

Book Raman Spectroscopy of Carboxylic Acid and Water Aggregates

Download or read book Raman Spectroscopy of Carboxylic Acid and Water Aggregates written by Zhifeng Xue and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2011 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the present work the carboxylic acid dimers and water clusters are chosen as model systems of strong and moderately strong hydrogen bonds and studied with spontaneous Raman spectroscopy coupled with a supersonic jet expansion. The spectra of several carboxylic acids are measured and assigned in the entire fundamental wavenumber region. An overview of their vibrations is achieved by comparing our experimental results with former experimental results as well as with quantum chemical calculations. For the first time, we know from experiment how anharmonic the hydrogen bond vibrations of formic acid are and it is proved that the hydrogen bond becomes stiffer when moving from formic acid to acetic acid. Now there is a very complete spectroscopic data base for formic acid dimer, which can be used to rigorously test quantum chemical calculations. Besides, we finally know from experiment how strongly the OH oscillators are coupled to each other in the simplest ring clusters of water. All this was only possible by the use of spontaneous Raman scattering in supersonic expansions, which is a really powerful tool to investigate hydrogen bonded systems.

Download or read book Laser Spectroscopy of Oxygen Rings Nitrogen Rings and Other Novel High Energy Density Forms of Matter written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New methods are explored for producing and characterizing proposed new HEDM molecules - covalent nitrogen and oxygen rings. A laser ablation 'supersonic catalytic plasma reactor' was developed, wherein a metal target is vaporized by a pulsed UV laser and reactant gases are added to the buffer gas. A pulsed corona discharge nozzle was developed for the same purpose. Initial tests of these sources for producing coinage metal silicides have been carried out. Cavity Ringdown Laser Absorption Spectroscopy has been extended into the infrared region of the spectrum using two different technologies. Studies of water clusters in pulsed supersonic beams and of molecules in flames have been carried out.
