Book excerpt: RESUMEN Las carreteras son una pieza clave en el desarrollo económico y social en el territorio de cualquier país. Por un lado, la red de transporte es la mayor decisión estructurante del territorio, pues el efecto de las carreteras desde el punto de vista de la ordenación del territorio determina el sentido del crecimiento fomentando el desarrollo demográfico y económico. Por el otro, el sistema de transporte genera beneficios de eficacia, efectos de transferencia, y efectos de re-localización de actividad, por ello, las carreteras inducen cambios en los patrones de distribución de la población y apoyan directamente a las actividades productivas. En este sentido, la mejora de la accesibilidad afecta al crecimiento de los sectores productivos y en consecuencia del empleo y, ésto provoca un futuro económico positivo para la región afectada. Esta investigación doctoral analiza y compara los efectos inducidos por las carreteras en la transformación social y económica en dos ámbitos territoriales con algunas similitudes, pero con diferencias sociales evidentes. Para ello, se han escogido dos carreteras en diferentes países para así observar el efecto que tiene cada una en sus territorios y establecer comparaciones. Se elige por un lado el Eix Transversal de Catalunya (localizada en España) y por el otro, la carretera MEX120 (ubicada en los Estados Unidos Mexicanos). Para llevar a cabo la investigación, el estudio de ambas vías se realiza a nivel político territorial municipal, analizando la evolución de diversos parámetros socioeconómicos (seleccionados en base a la metodología clásica de los estudios de impacto) en su situación ex ante y ex post (durante y después de las obras en ambas infraestructuras). Los resultados muestran que los efectos estructurantes y en el desarrollo inducido por ambas carreteras son positivos a pesar del poco tiempo transcurrido entre la inauguración y nuestro estudio, por lo tanto, presentamos una serie de impactos inmediatos, los cuales ap.
