Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information sharing among federal, state, and local officials is crucial for preventing acts of terrorism on U.S. soil. The Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS), through its Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A), has lead federal responsibility for such information sharing. This report assessed: (1) actions I&A has taken to enhance the usefulness of intelligence products it provides to state and local partners; (2) other services I&A provides to these partners; and (3) to what extent I&A has defined how it intends to share information with these partners. To conduct this work, the auditor contacted a non-generalizable sample of 10 fusion centers ¿ where states collaborate with federal agencies to improve information sharing. Illus. A print on demand report.

Book excerpt: The President and Congress have directed the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to perform an essential and multi-faceted mission: prevent and protect against terrorist attacks; respond to both man-made and natural disasters; perform the law enforcement and other crucial functions of the Department's component agencies; and play a central role in augmenting the Nation's ability to gather, analyze and disseminate information and intelligence. Book National Strategy for Combating Terrorism

Download or read book National Strategy for Combating Terrorism written by George W. Bush and published by Wordclay. This book was released on 2009-04 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the September 11 attacks, America is safer, but we are not yet safe. We have done much to degrade al-Qaida and its affiliates and to undercut the perceived legitimacy of terrorism. Our Muslim partners are speaking out against those who seek to use their religion to justify violence and a totalitarian vision of the world. We have significantly expanded our counter terrorism coalition, transforming old adversaries into new and vital partners in the War on Terror. We have liberated more than 50 million Afghans and Iraqis from despotism, terrorism, and oppression, permitting the first free elections in recorded history for either nation. In addition, we have transformed our governmental institutions and framework to wage a generational struggle. There will continue to be challenges ahead, but along with our partners, we will attack terrorism and its ideology, and bring hope and freedom to the people of the world. This is how we will win the War on Terror.

Book Department of Homeland Security Information Sharing Strategy

Download or read book Department of Homeland Security Information Sharing Strategy written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The President and Congress have directed the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to perform an essential and multi-faceted mission: prevent and protect against terrorist attacks; respond to both man-made and natural disasters; perform the law enforcement and other crucial functions of the Department's component agencies; and play a central role in augmenting the Nation's ability to gather, analyze, and disseminate information and intelligence. To ensure that information and intelligence flow where and when they should, DHS must foster information sharing, consistent with law, regulation, and policy, in each of the following ways: (1) internally within DHS; (2) horizontally within the U.S. Government between both law enforcement agencies and the intelligence community; (3) vertically with State, local, territorial, tribal, and private sector partners; and (4) horizontally with the law enforcement and intelligence agencies of foreign allies and appropriate international institutions. The foundation for DHS's key role with respect to information sharing has been established by statute, regulation, Executive Order, and Secretarial directive. The Department has made significant contributions to the Nation's information sharing capability since its inception, but critical work remains to be done. This Information Sharing Strategy for DHS builds on that foundation and sets out DHS's strategy for achieving its information sharing objectives. This Strategy consists of the following components: Background, Transformation Statement, Guiding Principles, Critical Challenges, Objectives, Information Sharing Standards, Information Sharing Security and Privacy, Performance Measures, and Communication and Outreach.
