Book Information Logistics Decentralized Approaches of Information Allocation in Information Exchange Networks

Download or read book Information Logistics Decentralized Approaches of Information Allocation in Information Exchange Networks written by Sven Grolik and published by ibidem-Verlag / ibidem Press. This book was released on 2012-02-24 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of modern planning and optimization systems for process synchronization in value networks requires the optimal information exchange between the entities involved. The central focus of Sven Grolik's study is the development of efficient mechanisms for the coordination of information allocation by the example of interconnected transportation marketplaces. Unlike traditional information allocation algorithms, the algorithms developed in his analysis are based on update mechanisms which maintain a weak consistency of replicated information in the network. Sven Grolik shows that these algorithms enable savings concerning the update costs as well as increase the performance within the network, but at the same time guarantee compliance with quality of service levels concerning the currency of information. The focus of this work is the development of decentralized, online algorithms which make a logically distributed computation possible on the basis of local information. The development of these innovative algorithms is based on approaches of multi-agent system theory as well as distributed simulated annealing techniques.

Book Information Logistics in Supply Chain Networks

Download or read book Information Logistics in Supply Chain Networks written by Markus Fricke and published by ibidem-Verlag / ibidem Press. This book was released on 2004-06-28 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can inter-organizational cooperation’s in supply chains be improved? This book analyzes the interdependencies between the use of information and communication technologies and the efficient form of IT-based coordination in supply chains and/or supply chain networks. Using the results of an empirical survey done in the European automotive industry, the status quo and the future of different information and communication technologies used to support supply chain operations is shown. The results on a general level were complemented by case studies which give examples demonstrating the specific behavior of individual companies and technological concepts in the automotive industry. On the methodological basis of transaction costs theory, network effect theory and empirical findings, an economic model of “information logistics” is developed, that can be applied to determine optimal IT-configuration and information flows and thus to analyze efficiency of networked cooperation forms. At the example of vehiclespecific supply chains and industry networks it is shown, how the overall network costs necessary to exchange information between business partners can be improved.

Book City Evacuations An Interdisciplinary Approach

Download or read book City Evacuations An Interdisciplinary Approach written by John Preston and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-01 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evacuating a city is a complex problem that involves issues of governance, preparedness education, warning, information sharing, population dynamics, resilience and recovery. As natural and anthropogenic threats to cities grow, it is an increasingly pressing problem for policy makers and practitioners. The book is the result of a unique interdisciplinary collaboration between researchers in the physical and social sciences to consider how an interdisciplinary approach can help plan for large scale evacuations. It draws on perspectives from physics, mathematics, organisation theory, economics, sociology and education. Importantly it goes beyond disciplinary boundaries and considers how interdisciplinary methods are necessary to approach a complex problem involving human actors and increasingly complex communications and transportation infrastructures. Using real world case studies and modelling the book considers new approaches to evacuation dynamics. It addresses questions of complexity, not only in terms of theory, but examining the latest challenges for cities and emergency responders. Factors such as social media, information quality and visualisation techniques are examined to consider the ‘new’ dynamics of warning and informing, evacuation and recovery.

Book The Impacts of the Affordable Care Act on Preparedness Resources and Programs

Download or read book The Impacts of the Affordable Care Act on Preparedness Resources and Programs written by Institute of Medicine and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many of the elements of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) went into effect in 2014, and with the establishment of many new rules and regulations, there will continue to be significant changes to the United States health care system. It is not clear what impact these changes will have on medical and public health preparedness programs around the country. Although there has been tremendous progress since 2005 and Hurricane Katrina, there is still a long way to go to ensure the health security of the Country. There is a commonly held notion that preparedness is separate and distinct from everyday operations, and that it only affects emergency departments. But time and time again, catastrophic events challenge the entire health care system, from acute care and emergency medical services down to the public health and community clinic level, and the lack of preparedness of one part of the system places preventable stress on other components. The implementation of the ACA provides the opportunity to consider how to incorporate preparedness into all aspects of the health care system. The Impacts of the Affordable Care Act on Preparedness Resources and Programs is the summary of a workshop convened by the Institute of Medicine's Forum on Medical and Public Health Preparedness for Catastrophic Events in November 2013 to discuss how changes to the health system as a result of the ACA might impact medical and public health preparedness programs across the nation. This report discusses challenges and benefits of the Affordable Care Act to disaster preparedness and response efforts around the country and considers how changes to payment and reimbursement models will present opportunities and challenges to strengthen disaster preparedness and response capacities.
