Download or read book Information and Communication Technologies in the Context of Globalization written by Kaushalesh Lal and published by Palgrave MacMillan. This book was released on 2007-11-13 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book makes an important contribution to business, economic growth, and information and communication technologies led technical change literature. Evidence based on primary survey of firms, comes from firms located in three Continents, namely; Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Using advanced statistical and econometric techniques, the studies presented in the book have been able to capture the factors that are impediments in the adoption of new technologies. Findings presented in the book conclude that institutional support is necessary factor for small firms to remain competitive in the era of globalization. Case studies presented in the book suggest that entrepreneurship coupled with enabling technological and institutional environment can make small firms globally competitive. Cohesion of policies has been found essential for sustainability of growth and survival of small firms. We also conclude that degree of effectiveness of same policy instruments is not uniform across countries. Hence countries need to evolve their own country-specific policies for small firms so that they can survive in the globally integrated world.

Book Organizational Information Systems in the Context of Globalization

Download or read book Organizational Information Systems in the Context of Globalization written by Mikko Korpela and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizational Information Systems in the Context of Globalization exemplifies the role of social theory in approaching ICT utilization challenges in a globalization context. The debates raised on implementation, policy, organizations and organizing, and social dynamics, increase our awareness of the diversity of perspectives we need to delve into when framing the role of ICTs in the globalization agenda. The equal representation of managerial and non-managerial decision making contexts alerts us to the fact that ICTs should not be considered only as a corporate wealth creation prerogative. This book contains the selected proceedings of the Working Conference on Information Systems Perspectives and Challenges in the Context of Globalization, sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) and held in Athens, Greece in June 2003.

Book Information Technology in Context

Download or read book Information Technology in Context written by Chrisanthi Avgerou and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2000. A discussion of information technology (IT) in developing countries. The contributors can be considered to share the following set of broad premises: information and communication technologies, and related systems, have significant potential to aid the economic growth and improvement of social conditions in the developing world; however, such potential is not released by simply transferring technologies and processes from advanced economies; in order to better serve development needs, people involved with the design, implementation and management of IT-related projects and systems in developing countries must improve their capacity to address the specific contextual characteristics of the organization, sector, country or region within which their work is located. The text thus emphasizes the importance of context in examining the role and value of IT in the developing countries. It focuses attention on the fusion of the activities of "professionals" (technical experts, managers, policy makers) and "users" (more broadly, all other groups affecting or affected by the technologies and systems), with the intention of facilitating locally meaningful and effective change.
