Book Influence of Subsurface Defects on Fatigue Properties of Titanium Alloys

Download or read book Influence of Subsurface Defects on Fatigue Properties of Titanium Alloys written by C. C. Law and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few manufacturing processes are perfect and errors, minor changes in a processing cycle, etc., can lead to defective regions in a product which may influence service performance. Over the past decades the demands of high technology areas such as these in the aerospace industry have required that such defects be eliminated from components and the advances in quality control, NDI, etc., have proved in general very successful in improving product integrity. Titanium alloys have formed part of such programs and the service record of these materials has been excellent. However, occasional problems have been encountered especially when the defects occur on a small scale and are difficult to detect by NDI techniques. Description of the types of defects that have been encountered were identified in the first semi-annual report. This has been used to establish an experimental and analytical program designed to gain insight into the nature and effect of two specific defects on subsequent mechanical properties.

Book Metal Fatigue Effects of Small Defects and Nonmetallic Inclusions

Download or read book Metal Fatigue Effects of Small Defects and Nonmetallic Inclusions written by Yukitaka Murakami and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-04-29 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metal fatigue is an essential consideration for engineers and researchers who are looking at factors that cause metals to fail through stress, corrosion, etc. This is an English translation of a book originally published in Japan in 1993, with an additional two chapters on the fatigue failure of steels and the effect of surface roughness on fatigue strength. The methodology is based on important and reliable results and may be usefully applied to other fatigue problems not directly treated in this book.

Book Metal Fatigue Effects of Small Defects and Nonmetallic Inclusions

Download or read book Metal Fatigue Effects of Small Defects and Nonmetallic Inclusions written by Yukitaka Murakami and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2019-06-15 with total page 760 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metal fatigue is an essential consideration for engineers and researchers looking at factors that cause metals to fail through stress, corrosion, or other processes. Predicting the influence of small defects and non-metallic inclusions on fatigue with any degree of accuracy is a particularly complex part of this. Metal Fatigue: Effects of Small Defects and Nonmetallic Inclusions is the most trusted, detailed and comprehensive guide to this subject available. This expanded second edition introduces highly important emerging topics on metal fatigue, pointing the way for further research and innovation. The methodology is based on important and reliable results and may be usefully applied to other fatigue problems not directly treated in this book. - Demonstrates how to solve a wide range of specialized metal fatigue problems relating to small defects and non-metallic inclusions. - Provides a detailed introduction to fatigue mechanisms and stress concentration. - This edition is expanded to address even more topics, including low cycle fatigue, quality control of fatigue components, and more.

Book Titanium

Download or read book Titanium written by Matthew J. Donachie and published by ASM International. This book was released on 2000 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed to support the need of engineering, management, and other professionals for information on titanium by providing an overview of the major topics, this book provides a concise summary of the most useful information required to understand titanium and its alloys. The author provides a review of the significant features of the metallurgy and application of titanium and its alloys. All technical aspects of the use of titanium are covered, with sufficient metals property data for most users. Because of its unique density, corrosion resistance, and relative strength advantages over competing materials such as aluminum, steels, and superalloys, titanium has found a niche in many industries. Much of this use has occurred through military research, and subsequent applications in aircraft, of gas turbine engines, although more recent use features replacement joints, golf clubs, and bicycles.Contents include: A primer on titanium and its alloys, Introduction to selection of titanium alloys, Understanding titanium's metallurgy and mill products, Forging and forming, Castings, Powder metallurgy, Heat treating, Joining technology and practice, Machining, Cleaning and finishing, Structure/processing/property relationships, Corrosion resistance, Advanced alloys and future directions, Appendices: Summary table of titanium alloys, Titanium alloy datasheets, Cross-reference to titanium alloys, Listing of selected specification and standardization organizations, Selected manufacturers, suppliers, services, Corrosion data, Machining data.

Book Metal Removal by Electrochemical Methods and Its Effects on Mechanical Properties of Metals

Download or read book Metal Removal by Electrochemical Methods and Its Effects on Mechanical Properties of Metals written by John A. Gurklis and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report assembles and correlates information on the effects of electrochemical metal-removal (ECMR) processes on mechanical properties. Of special interest and concern are the effects of ECMR on fatigue strength. The report covers four electrochemical metal-removal processes: electrochemical machining (ECM), electrolytic grinding (EG), electrochemical milling, and electropolishing. General characteristics and applications of the four methods are presented and discussed; special emphasis is placed on ECM. The ECMR processes are especially useful in shaping high-strength and difficult-to-machine metals and alloys, as well as in shaping parts with unusual, complex, or fragile characteristics. (Author).
