Book Further Studies on the Effect of In Plane Boundary Conditions on the Buckling of Stiffened Cylindrical Shells

Download or read book Further Studies on the Effect of In Plane Boundary Conditions on the Buckling of Stiffened Cylindrical Shells written by Tanchum Weller and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of in-plane boundary conditions on the buckling loads of simply supported shells, stiffened by rings and stringers is studied. The effects differ appreciably from those in isotropic or ring stiffened shells and are considerably dependent upon stiffener geometry and location. The axial restraint, u = O, is the predominant factor and the 'weak in shear', N sub x phi = O, boundary conditions have only a minor influence. The critical loads corresponding to the SS2 and SS4 boundary conditions are appreciably raised compared to the ones obtained for the 'classical' boundary conditions and the effect is more emphasized for internal stringers. The loads corresponding to the SS1 conditions are almost identical with the 'classical' critical loads. (Modified author abstract).

Book Buckling of Thin Metal Shells

Download or read book Buckling of Thin Metal Shells written by J.G. Teng and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-06-28 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thin-walled metal shell structures are highly efficient in their use of material, but they are particularly sensitive to failure by buckiling. Many different forms of buckling can occur for different geometries and different loading conditions. Because this field of knowledge is both complex and industrially important, it is of great interest and c

Book Buckling of Structures

Download or read book Buckling of Structures written by I. Elishakoff and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of papers, written by friends and colleagues of Josef Singer, presents a comprehensive and timely review of the theoretical mechanics of thin shell-structures. Topics of great current interest such as the buckling of composite plates and shells, the plastic buckling of thin-walled structures and the optimum design of buckling sensitive curved composite panels are examined by experts, using a great diversity of approaches, whereby theoretical predictions are compared with experimental results whenever possible.Other topics reviewed include the buckling and post-buckling behaviour of imperfect shells under different external static or dynamic loads and a variety of boundary conditions. Papers dealing with the vibration and the dynamic response of thin elastic bodies are also presented.A strong emphasis is made on the practical applications aspect in the theories presented. Thus engineers, research workers and students who are involved with the design and analysis of shell structures made of different materials, and subjected to various static and dynamic loads will find this volume an invaluable source of reference.

Book Vibrations and Buckling of Eccentrically Loaded Stiffened Cylindrical Shells

Download or read book Vibrations and Buckling of Eccentrically Loaded Stiffened Cylindrical Shells written by Aviv Rosen and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The influence of eccentricity of loading on the vibrations and buckling of stringer-stiffened shells is studied. An established nonlinear theory, which takes into account nonlinear prebuckling is applied and the predictions are compared with experimental results. Two families of shells, one heavily stiffened and the other moderately stiffened, were tested. In each family there are three identical shells each with different eccentricity of loading. In all cases different in-plane boundary conditions are considered and correlated with experimental results.

Book New Approaches to Structural Mechanics Shells and Biological Structures

Download or read book New Approaches to Structural Mechanics Shells and Biological Structures written by Horace R. Drew and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Festschrift marks the retirement of Professor Chris Calladine, FRS after 42 years on the teaching staff of the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge. It contains a series of papers contributed by his former students, colleagues, and friends. Chris Calladine's research has ranged very widely across the field of struc tural mechanics, with a particular focus on the plastic deformation of solids and structures, and the behaviour of thin-shell structures. His insightful books on Engineering Plasticity and Theory of Shell Structures have been appreciated by many generations of students at Cambridge and elsewhere. His scientific contri bution outside engineering, in molecular structures, is at least as significant, and he is unique among engineers in having co-authored a book on DNA. Also, he has been keenly interested in the research of many students and colleagues, and on many occasions his quick grasp and physical insight have helped a student, and sometimes a colleague, find the nub of the problem without unnecessary effort. Many of the papers contained in this volume gratefully acknowledge this generous contribution. We thank Professor G. M. l. Gladwell for reading through all of the contri butions, Mrs R. Baxter and Mrs o. Constantinides for help in preparing this volume, Godfrey Argent Studio for permission to reproduce Calladine's por trait for the Royal Society, and Dr A. Schouwenburg -from Kluwer- for his assistance. Horace R. Drew Sergio Pellegrino ix CHRIS CALLADINE SOME THOUGHTS ON RESEARCH c. R.
