Book Influence of Grain Boundaries on Recombination in Polysilicon Pn junction Solar Cells

Download or read book Influence of Grain Boundaries on Recombination in Polysilicon Pn junction Solar Cells written by and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The physics controlling recombination in polysilicon pn-junction cells is described. Analytic models characterizing this recombination, whose parameters can be related directly to experiment, are developed. The analysis reveals that, in general, the description of intra-grain and grain-boundary recombination in a polysilicon solar cell requires the solution of a nonlinear, three-dimensional boundary-value problem. Cases of practical interest for which this problem is tractable are discussed. The analysis predicts an exp(qV/2kT) dependence (the reciprocal slope factor is exactly two) for carrier recombination at a grain boundary within the junction space-charge region of a non-illuminated, forward-biased cell. This result, and others of the analysis, are shown to be consistent with measured current-voltage characteristics of pn junctions fabricated on polycrystalline silicon.

Book Physical Models of Thin Film Polycrystalline Solar Cells Based on Measured Grain boundary and Electronic parameter Properties Quarterly Report

Download or read book Physical Models of Thin Film Polycrystalline Solar Cells Based on Measured Grain boundary and Electronic parameter Properties Quarterly Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solar cells fabricated on polycrystalline silicon, either bulk or thin-film, can potentially be cost-effective when used in terrestrial photovoltaic energy-conversion systems. To achieve this goal, the polysilicon cell efficiency must be increased considerably from its present values. A severe limitation to the cell efficiency is due to the grain boundaries and their influence on carrier recombination. To remove this limitation, an understanding of the fundamental physics underlying the effects of the grain boundaries on cell performance is helpful. This fundamental physics is discussed, and models are developed for recombination currents in polysilicon pn-junction solar cells. Several analytic approximations, suggested by physical insight, are used and checked ultimately for self-consistency with the results of the analysis. The models are defined such that their parameters can be related directly to measurements, and the models are hence useful in interpreting experimental results. They also can be used to study, in a systematic way, cell-design modifications to improve the efficiency, e.g., grain-boundary passivation techniques.

Book Method of Making Quasi grain Boundary free Polycrystalline Solar Cell Structure and Solar Cell Structure Obtained Thereby

Download or read book Method of Making Quasi grain Boundary free Polycrystalline Solar Cell Structure and Solar Cell Structure Obtained Thereby written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new solar cell structure is provided which will increase the efficiency of polycrystalline solar cells by suppressing or completely eliminating the recombination losses due to the presence of grain boundaries. This is achieved by avoiding the formation of the p-n junction (or other types of junctions) in the grain boundaries and by eliminating the grain boundaries from the active area of the cell. This basic concept can be applied to any polycrystalline material; however, it will be most beneficial for cost-effective materials having small grains, including thin film materials.

Book Renewable Energy

Download or read book Renewable Energy written by Bent Sorensen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-14 with total page 2318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This four-volume set, edited by a leading expert in the field, brings together in one collection a series of papers that have been fundamental to the development of renewable energy as a defined discipline. Some of the papers were first published many years ago, but they remain classics in their fields and retain their relevance to the understanding of current issues. The papers have been selected with the assistance of an eminent international editorial board. The set includes a general introduction and each volume is introduced by a new overview essay, placing the selected papers in context. The range of subject matter is considerable, including coverage of all the main renewable technologies, the fundamental principles by which they function, and the issues around their deployment such as planning, integration and socio-economic assessment. Overall, the set provides students, teachers and researchers, confronted with thousands of journal articles, book chapters and grey literature stretching back decades, with a ready-made selection of and commentary on the most important key writings in renewable energy. It will be an essential reference for libraries concerned with energy, technology and the environment.

Book Fourth E C Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper is written in the belief that people are important and that equipment is to serve the needs of the people and therefore should be designed to meet their specific needs and environment. This is particularly important in the case of a developing country when a professional engineer accepts the responsibility to formulate policies evaluate equipment imple ment projects and train national people. 1. Government, geography and climate Papua New Guinea, an independent and self governing state since 1975, is located directly North of Australia above the North Eastern State of Queensland. The country extends from 141° east longitude, at the border with Indonesia (Irian Jaya) to 160° east longitude and between latitudes 1° and 12° south (see figure 1). Papua New Guinea is a parliamentary democracy, with a single legis lature known as the National Parliament (1). The State is divided into 19 provinces plus the National Capital District (Port Moresby) with de centralized Government established in each province. Before independence the country comprised the Australian territory of Papua in the southern regions and the United Nations Trust Territory of New Guinea in the North (1). Land area is 462,840 square kilometres This inclUdes the mainland, the three large islands of New Britain, ~ew Ireland and fiougainville plus 600 small islands and archipelagos. Approximate direct distances from the capital city of Port Moresby to some of the other centres are : Vanimo 990 km, Rabaul SOO km, Arawa 990 km and Lorengau S25 km.

Book Spatially Resolved Studies of Grain Boundary Effects in Polycrystalline Solar Cells Using Micro Photoluminescence and Near Field Microscopy

Download or read book Spatially Resolved Studies of Grain Boundary Effects in Polycrystalline Solar Cells Using Micro Photoluminescence and Near Field Microscopy written by S. Smith and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photoluminescence and photocurrent spectroscopies combined with diffraction-limited and sub- diffraction-limited spatial resolution are achieved via micro-photoluminescence (m-PL) and near-field microscopy (NSOM). These methods are used to examine the photo-response of individual grain boundaries in thin-film, polycrystalline solar cells at room and cryogenic temperatures. A systematic m-PL study of the effect of CdCl2-treatment on recombination in CdTe/CdS solar cell structures of varying thickness directly reveals the grain-boundary and surface passivation action of this important post-growth processing step. We achieve 50nm (l/10) spatial resolution in near-field Optical Beam Induced Current imaging (n-OBIC) of polycrystalline silicon solar cells using NSOM, at varying stages of silicon nitride grain-boundary passivation, and measure lateral variations in photo-response of CdTe/CdS solar cells with subwavelength spatial resolution.
