Book Fretting Corrosion

Download or read book Fretting Corrosion written by Raymond H. Comyn and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data from over 200 reports from the English literature on fretting corrosion were summarized for ready reference--for engineers who must consider its effect in designing mechanical and electrical devices and for scientists who may wish to investigate the underlying mechanism. The actual wear, frictional changes, variations in electrical resistances and electrical noise, and fatigue due to fretting are described to acquaint the designer with difficulties to be anticipated from this problem. Factors affecting fretting, its effect on the fatigue strength of materials and methods of preventing it are discussed. The main theories that have been proposed to explain fretting corrosion and test methods that have been used to study it are reviewed. (Author).

Book Fatigue of Metals

Download or read book Fatigue of Metals written by P. G. Forrest and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue of Metals provides a general account of the failure of metals due to fatigue, a subject of great practical importance in the field of engineering and metallurgy. The book covers a wide range of topics on the study of the fatigue of metals. The text presents in the first three chapters the characteristics and detection of fatigue fractures; methods of fatigue testing; and the fatigue strengths of different materials. The resistance of materials to fatigue under complex stress; the determination and effects of stress concentration; influence of surface treatment on fatigue strength; and effects of corrosion and temperature are also studied in detail. In relation to the previous chapters of fatigue information, a chapter is devoted to engineering design to prevent fatigue. The last two chapters provide a brief historical survey of the developments of the study of the mechanism of fatigue and fatigue of non-metallic materials such as wood, plastic, rubber, glass, and concrete. Mechanical engineers, designers, metallurgists, researchers, and students will find the book as a good reference material.

Book Engineering Design

Download or read book Engineering Design written by T. F. Roylance and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-01-31 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering Design contains papers given during the Summer School of Engineering Design held at the University of Nottingham, 21-24 September 1964. The School consisted of 18 lectures spread over four days. Design covers a vast range of subject matter for which only years of college and industrial training and experience can provide adequate equipment. In the 18 lectures, the lecturers attempted to highlight the important factors within their varied experience. The backcloth to design, covering company organization, planning, programming of design and development, were elaborated in the opening lectures. Another lecture summarized ideas on company design procedures; stressed the importance of always attempting to predict results in terms of numbers; and demonstrated how to develop a freedom of manipulating numbers, even when knowledge of rigorous mathematical processes is limited. Other lectures covered organization and design for mass production; the increasing importance of powder metallurgy as a manufacturing method; properties of materials; important aspects of the use of computers in design; and the design of major engineering projects: diesel engines, aircraft engines, and high-speed packaging machines.

Book Uncertainty Modeling and Analysis in Civil Engineering

Download or read book Uncertainty Modeling and Analysis in Civil Engineering written by Bilal M. Ayyub and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1997-12-29 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the expansion of new technologies, materials, and the design of complex systems, the expectations of society upon engineers are becoming larger than ever. Engineers make critical decisions with potentially high adverse consequences. The current political, societal, and financial climate requires engineers to formally consider the factors of uncertainty (e.g., floods, earthquakes, winds, environmental risks) in their decisions at all levels. Uncertainty Modeling and Analysis in Civil Engineering provides a thorough report on the immediate state of uncertainty modeling and analytical methods for civil engineering systems, presenting a toolbox for solving problems in real-world situations. Topics include Neural networks Genetic algorithms Numerical modeling Fuzzy sets and operations Reliability and risk analysis Systems control Uncertainty in probability estimates This compendium is a considerable reference for civil engineers as well as for engineers in other disciplines, computer scientists, general scientists, and students.

Book Bibliography on the Fatigue of Materials Components and Structures

Download or read book Bibliography on the Fatigue of Materials Components and Structures written by J. Y. Mann and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bibliography on the Fatigue of Materials, Components and Structures, Volume 2 is a list of references on the above subject spanning the years 1951-1960. The list of references is arranged chronologically according to the book's or paper's publication year. The Bibliography then lists the surname of the first author alphabetically in the respective year. When a paper gives no authors, it is listed at the end of the alphabetical listing of that year, in order of the publication date. The Bibliography also provides a subject and author index. The description that the volume uses is based on the titles of the paper or book. The text also lists the title in the original language of the paper, followed by an English translation. The volume contains more than 1,000 published materials from 30 countries. The topics these references cover are on the fundamental research made in the fatigue of materials; the determination of fatigue properties; the utilization of a different manufacturing methods; the various formulations to overcome occurrence of problems; and the development of design techniques. The style of numbering followed in this volume is a continuation of the numbering system used in Volume 1. The Bibliography can be used by physicists, scientists, and materials engineers to gain access to a wide variety of books, papers, and research on the above subject.
