In addition, a grounded theory depicting the development of highly successful collegiate athletes was developed to visually depict the results and emphasize the importance of environmental opportunities, critical social influences, and critical incidents in the lives of the athletes. Also, a grounded theory depicting the importance of a social support system in athletic talent development emerged. This study supported aspects of previous research, yet expanded it because of the materialization of the importance of overcoming adversity. Therefore, developing innate talent through critical social influences was central to overcome critical incidents in order to develop into a highly successful college athlete.
