Book excerpt: From time immemorial, poets and philosophers have looked in awe and wonder at the Universe. Such awe is shared by astrophysicists, too, as they seek to understand its nature, and whether it has any limits. In The Infinite Cosmos, Joseph Silk, Savilian Professor of Astronomy at Oxford University, cosmologist and well-known science writer, brings together the modern understanding of the Universe, its structure, its evolution, and its possible fate, combining the latest from theory and observation. The narrative is peppered with quotations from literature and philosophy, and reflects, too, on the process of scientific discovery, and the implications of our discoveries.

Book Omnidoxy

    Book Details:
  • Author : Cometan
  • Publisher : Astronist Institution
  • Release : 2019-02-11
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 3357 pages

Download or read book Omnidoxy written by Cometan and published by Astronist Institution. This book was released on 2019-02-11 with total page 3357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Omnidoxy is the founding treatise of the Astronist religion and was solely authored by the philosopher and religious founder, Cometan. Partitioned into twelve disquisitions, each of which are further divided into hundreds of discourses, which are themselves titled by those which are known as rubrals, The Omnidoxy has been codified according to a unique writing structure known as insentence. The Omnidoxy not only forms the foundations of Astronism, but it remains the primary modern contributor and the book that ignited the establishment of the Astronic tradition of religion which encompasses the philosophy of Astronism. Introducing brand new philosophical concepts such as cosmocentricity, reascensionism, transcensionism, and sentientism amongst many others, The Omnidoxy remains the principal signifier of a new era in philosophy. The Omnidoxy births hundreds of new belief orientations, schools of thought, neologisms, disciplines of study, theories, and concepts which, when combined and considered collectively, have formed the basis of Astronism. The authorship of The Omnidoxy rests with the single individual philosopher, Cometan who began writing The Omnidoxy at the age of seventeen driven by what he terms as personal inspiration. The historical origination of The Omnidoxy rests in its authorship by Brandon Taylorian during early 21st century England, specifically in the northern county of Lancashire. Like in all textual criticism, the timing and location of the codification of The Omnidoxy is integral to understanding why and how it was written, especially by considering the influential factors impacting Taylorian during his construction of the text, particularly the cultural, political, religious, and social contexts of Taylorian's personal life and of wider society at the time. This forms an important branch of study within omnidoxicology known as omnidoxical criticism, or omnidoxical exegesis in which scholars study and investigate The Omnidoxy in order to discern conclusive judgements inspired by how, where, why, by whom, for whom, and in what circumstances The Omnidoxy was written.

Book My Universe A Transcendent Reality

Download or read book My Universe A Transcendent Reality written by Alex Vary and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-11-21 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theme throughout My Universe is that our consciousness exists simultaneously in transcendent and material domains. The gift and power of transcendent consciousness is that we apparently share it with extraterrestrial beings everywhere in the cosmos. Author Vary describes sub-quantum hyperspace phenomena that enable and mediate our communion with extraterrestrials. These reflections prompted Vary to muse that in this sense we are all extraterrestrials Our consciousness transcends the material and elevates and entwines our spirits. My Universe - A Transcendent Reality is a literary work with profound technological and teleological overtones. Vary’s prophetical prose-poesy essays combine physics, metaphysics, cosmology, theology, and philosophy. He offers extraordinary radical ideas that can expand our dominion over nature and promote self-realization. Vary's book differs from others of its genera because it presents a rational basis for understanding the transcendent reality that influences our lives and by which we can enhance our interpersonal relations and infinite potentials. My Universe describes the foundation for perceiving a transcendent reality with quantum phenomena which we may experimentally observe as evidence of the intertwining of the transcendent and material. From this foundation we may realize transcendent communications with extraterrestrial beings. This is because there is a bond between transcendent reality and material reality, between transcendent human consciousness and extraterrestrial reality; which are seemingly separated only by a tenuous hyperspace interface that may be traversed by advanced human techniques. Describes paradigms that enable and implement our transcendent consciousness and our relation to and contact with extraterrestrial worlds and beings. Gives entertaining, provocative clarification of great ideas in cosmology, philosophy, theology, sociology, evolution, metaphysics, and sub-quantum physics. Speaks to all cultures: innovators, writers, poets, artists, scientists: explains the nature of our world, so that we may better apply our infinite potentials. Promotes broadening of one’s spiritual self-realization: challenging, revolutionary, transformational, and inspiring - needed in this crucial juncture of time. Suggest transcendent control of nature through sub-quantum phenomena and harnessing cold fusion power and changing lead to gold, actually, metaphorically. Proclaims people may aspire to a personal paradise: because no matter how bad life on Earth becomes, everyone may prepare for access to a transcendent paradise.

Book The Immanence of the Infinite

Download or read book The Immanence of the Infinite written by Elizabeth Brient and published by CUA Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most scholars would agree that there is an epochal threshold between the world of the Middle Ages and the modern world. Agreement on the nature and dynamic structure of that threshold is harder to come by. Hans Blumenberg's original and compelling account of the transition from medieval to modern, given in his 1966 work The Legitimacy of the Modern Age, has received wide attention. Elizabeth Brient begins her own account of the transition with an extensive, critical assessment of central aspects of Blumenberg's work. She elucidates his "dialogical" method of historical explanation, then discusses the shortcomings of his defense of the "legitimacy" of modernity. The transition to the modern world is marked by the process of making infinite the finite medieval cosmos. Whereas Blumenberg focused on the spatial infinitization of the universe, Brient claims that the process must be understood intensively as well as extensively. In the now-infinite universe of the new science, the problem of finding a measure for man's self-assertive activity, and for human knowledge, comes to the fore. The second half of the book focuses on the way in which this difficulty is addressed with conceptual resources developed in the tradition of late medieval Neoplatonism, in particular in the speculative thought of Meister Eckart and Nicholas of Cusa. Specific attention is given to the way in which Cusanus' notion of the immanence of the infinite in the finite responds to the need for a regulative ideal for human knowing. This is the first book-length treatment of Blumenberg to appear in English and will be a most welcome resource for readers engaged by debates concerning the status of modernity. It will be of equal interest to students of Eckhart and Cusanus, and to those generally concerned with the transition between the medieval and the modern world. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Elizabeth Brient is Assistant Professor of philosophy at The University of Georgia. PRAISE FOR THE BOOK: "Blumenberg could not have wished for a more reverent critique of his achievements or a more exacting textual exegesis regarding the sources of their philosophical content, all written in a lucid style that is forthright in the defense of the depth of thought during the Middle Ages but also pleasing in its subtle irony with respect to Blumenberg's and the author's own metaphysical creed."- Walter F. Veit, Speculum "Brient's analysis of Blumenberg's philosophy sheds significant light in the debate concerning modernity. . . ." --Albrecht Classen, University of Arizona, German Studies Review

Book excerpt: The cosmos, with its boundless expanse and intricate mysteries, has captivated the human imagination for millennia. From ancient stargazers to modern-day astronomers, we have peered into the depths of space, seeking to understand the universe's grand design. Yet, in our quest for knowledge, we have encountered a realm of existence that defies intuition and challenges the very foundations of our understanding—quantum space. This book is a journey into the heart of quantum space, a realm where the rules of classical physics no longer apply, and the fabric of reality is woven with threads of uncertainty, superposition, and entanglement. Here, we explore the profound interplay between quantum mechanics and the cosmos, revealing a tapestry of connections that transcend the boundaries of science and art. In "Quantum Dimensions: The Future of Space Science” we embark on a multidimensional odyssey that takes us from the subatomic world of quantum particles to the cosmic expanses of the universe. Along the way, we encounter the enigmatic phenomena of quantum mechanics, such as wave-particle duality, Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, and quantum entanglement. We delve into the classification of fundamental particles, from quarks to leptons, and ponder the mysteries of quantum fields and the vacuum. But this journey is not limited to the confines of theoretical physics and mathematical equations. It is also a celebration of human creativity and artistic expression. Throughout the book, we explore how artists, inspired by the abstract and surreal qualities of quantum space, have sought to capture its essence through visual, interactive, and conceptual art. We witness the convergence of science and art, where quantum principles become a source of inspiration, inviting us to contemplate the beauty and mystery of the quantum universe. As we traverse the chapters of this book, we invite you, our readers, to join us in the exploration of quantum space. Whether you are a seasoned scientist, an aspiring artist, or simply a curious soul, the mysteries of the quantum world beckon. Together, we will unravel the threads of quantum reality, peer into the depths of space-time curvature, and ponder the philosophical questions that quantum mechanics poses. In the spirit of discovery and wonder, we invite you to turn the pages and embark on this cosmic odyssey. May the pages of Quantum Dimensions inspire you to ask questions, seek answers, and embrace the infinite possibilities that the quantum universe offers. Welcome to the enigmatic world of quantum space—a universe within the universe.

Book Panpsychism in the West revised edition

Download or read book Panpsychism in the West revised edition written by David Skrbina and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2017-09-22 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An updated edition of a comprehensive study of the theory that mind exists, in some form, in all living and nonliving things. In Panpsychism in the West, the first comprehensive study of the subject, David Skrbina argues for the importance of panpsychism—the theory that mind exists, in some form, in all living and nonliving things—in consideration of the nature of consciousness and mind. Panpsychism, with its conception of mind as a general phenomenon of nature, uniquely links being and mind. More than a theory of mind, it is a meta-theory—a statement about theories of mind rather than a theory in itself. Panpsychism can parallel almost every current theory of mind; it simply holds that, no matter how one conceives of mind, such mind applies to all things. After a brief discussion of general issues surrounding philosophy of mind, Skrbina examines the panpsychist views of philosophers from the pre-Socratics to the post-structuralists. The original edition of Panpsychism in the West helped to reinvigorate a neglected and important aspect of philosophic thinking. This revised edition offers expanded and updated material that reflects the growth of panpsychism as a subdiscipline. It covers the problem of emergence of mind from a non-mental reality and the combination problem in greater detail. It offers expanded coverage of the pre-Socratics and Plato; a new section on Augustine; expanded discussions of Continental panpsychism, scientific arguments, Nietzsche, and Whitehead; and a new section on Russellian monism. With this edition, Panpsychism in the West will be continue to be the standard work on the topic.

Book excerpt: 'Alain Badiou: Between Theology and Anti-theology' provides one of the first comprehensive analyses of the relationship between Badiou's philosophy and theology. Examining the full range of Badiou's writings, this provocative study explores how Badiou's philosophy relies on theology even if he claims otherwise and actively attempts to work against theology. Despite the complex questions discussed - ranging across ontology, the theory of truth and the subject, philosophy and its conditions, and anti-philosophy - this book presents a clear and accessible overview of the theological, religious and biblical themes which animate Badiou's philosophy.
