Book Passage to Avalon

Download or read book Passage to Avalon written by Mike Thayer and published by Hooligan Press. This book was released on 2018-04-02 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fans of Fablehaven and Harry Potter will love this modern spin on fantasy with the "hilariously epic journey" (Readers' Favorite) of a boy stuck in a magical land who can still post about his adventures on social media and YouTube! Thirteen-year-old Sam Shelton is the only person in Avalon who can't use the magical power of aether. He's also the only person in Avalon with a bag of high-tech spy gear, a solar-powered cell phone with intermittent signal back to Earth, a YouTube account, and a murderous wizard-emperor on his tail...so he's got a lot going for him. When an earthquake hits his hometown of Bozeman, Montana, Sam gets inexplicably transported to Avalon, a strange world in which aether defines all aspects of life: the rich, the poor, the weak, the powerful, the oppressed, and the oppressors. Sam soon discovers that not only is he immune to aether's magical effects, but that he possesses the rare ability to destroy the stuff on contact. This phenomenon poses something of a major concern for the Emperor of Avalon, a tyrant who has dedicated his life to amassing more aether than all his subjects combined. While trying to find a way back home, Sam learns that his best hope lies with meeting the emperor head on, and draining the tyrant of his power. To do that, Sam will need to band together with a medieval cowboy, a young aether prodigy, and a curious dryad, all while using his whole bag of technological tricks...and posting about it on social media, of course. In Passage to Avalon, Mike Thayer takes a humorous, action-packed, and modern spin on the portal fantasy genre in the first book of The Epic Adventures of the Techno Wizard, a series that combines magical fantasy with near future technology and social media.

Book Inferno

    Book Details:
  • Author : Dante Alighieri
  • Publisher : Hackett Publishing
  • Release : 2009-03-01
  • ISBN : 1603841385
  • Pages : 486 pages

Download or read book Inferno written by Dante Alighieri and published by Hackett Publishing. This book was released on 2009-03-01 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An attractive new alternative as both a translation and a pedagogical tool. The volume includes an excellent introduction by Dante scholar Steven Botterill (Univ. of California, Berkeley), clear and informative notes by lifelong Dantist Anthony Oldcorn, a concise bibliographical note that indicates some important sources on Dante in print and online, and a diagram of Hell; Index of the Damned lists characters who appear in the canticle. The translator's preface explains Lombardo's choices as he faced the always-challenging task of rendering Dante's poetry into English. Among the most interesting choices are the occasional use of rhyme--especially in key passages and at the end of each canto, where interlocking rhymes that mimic Dante's terza rima are consistently employed--and an emphasis on creating a version that works well as an oral presentation, following the long tradition of private, public, and theatrical readings of the poem. The volume includes the original Italian text, thus facilitating classroom references and comparisons. --Rebecca West (Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, University of Chicago) in Choice

Book Confessions of Julius A

Download or read book Confessions of Julius A written by Gary Magallon and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2005-06-07 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Confessions of Julius A. is written in the form of an autobiography. The main character is an eccentric serving a life sentence for first degree murder, a murder he did not commit. However, he was convicted almost exclusively on his own testimony, and justifiably so as far as he is concerned. Although there are flights of absurdity, it is a serious work in that Julius delusions represent, in an exaggerated way, the common need to pluck some meaning out of life.

Book excerpt: This book serves as a publication that succeeds in repeating my attempt at incorporating artists both literary and visual; giving them an opportunity to gain exposure on their craft. For some that are brand new to this and others that possess some experience. Ultimately, with this book I achieved an avenue in which I was able to express my stories, share my craft as a growing artist that has a lot more to learn and further to go in life. As a senior in high school this was my final BIG PROJECT that I conducted for myself to undertake. Allowing others including myself to put color to a blank canvas and give you something to visualize.

Book Reincarnation Oblivion or Heaven

Download or read book Reincarnation Oblivion or Heaven written by Bobby Bose and published by Langham Global Library. This book was released on 2016-07-31 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is death? Why do we die? and what happens after we die? Over the centuries, philosophers and theologians of the world’s religions have offered answers to the dilemma of death, yet this subject is rarely given the detailed attention it deserves in the contemporary Christian church. As Christians, how does our view of death impact the communication of the gospel in today’s pluralistic societies? In this study, Dr Bobby Bose not only develops a solid biblical theology of death, he also reviews the teachings of contemporary and historical Christian theologians around the world, and examines the “state-after-death” beliefs of Hindus, Muslims and Secular Humanists. The author shows that “state-after- death” was a central component of conversation in the early church, and is also a major component of God’s mission to rescue humanity. As the East converges with the West, it is vital that Christians develop a missiological approach to “state-after-death” that will encourage positive engagement with people of other faiths and beliefs.

Book Qur an and Bible

    Book Details:
  • Author : M. S. Seale
  • Publisher : Taylor & Francis
  • Release : 2024-11-01
  • ISBN : 1040272967
  • Pages : 124 pages

Download or read book Qur an and Bible written by M. S. Seale and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-11-01 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rival ‘communities of the faithful’ are not in the habit of reading each other’s books, and when they do so, it is often to find fault and disparage. This attitude, so common a generation ago, is today giving way to mutual tolerance and an interest in ‘dialogue’. However, we are still at the stage of being content with a superficial reading of each other’s scriptures. First published in 1978, Qur’an and Bible attempts to delve deeper, to solve some persistent puzzles, and to explore the common culture from which the Holy Books spring. Hebrew and Arabic, the original languages of the Bible and Qur'an are of the same linguistic family. Hence Arabic is a useful instrument with which to probe for the meaning of ancient Hebrew expressions and ideas as found in the Old Testament, and which continue to pose problems for translators and commentators. It is not merely a matter of one language elucidating another, but, more profoundly, of the light a language with a long unbroken tradition can throw on the desert culture shared by both the ancient Hebrews and the ancient Arabians.
