Book World War II Infantry Fire Support Tactics

Download or read book World War II Infantry Fire Support Tactics written by Gordon L. Rottman and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2016-10-20 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As infantry units advanced across Europe the only support they could rely on from day to day was that provided by the heavy weapons of their own units. While thundering tanks struck fear into the hearts of their enemies it was the machine guns, mortars and light cannon that proved to be most important, causing the majority of casualties suffered during World War II. Common principles were shared across units but the wide variety of weapons available to the different armies altered the way they were used in battle. Focusing on the US, British, German and Soviet troops, this title offers a comprehensive guide to infantry fire support tactics used through World War II. Combat reports are complemented by specially commissioned artwork to show the way in which tactics varied, and highlight how developments obliged opposing armies to review their own methods.

Download or read book Canadians Under Fire written by Robert C. Engen and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2009-09-23 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Canadians Under Fire Robert Engen explores the dynamics of what combat looked like to Canada's infantrymen during the Second World War. Analyzing unexamined battle experience questionnaires from over 150 Canadian infantry officers, Engen argues for a reassessment of the tactical behaviour of Canadian soldiers in the Second World War. The evidence also shows that Marshall's theory of non-participation in combat by Allied forces is demonstrably false: Canadian soldiers took a continued and aggressive part in the fighting.

Book Infantry Fire Tactics Vol 29 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Infantry Fire Tactics Vol 29 Classic Reprint written by Charles Blair Mayne and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-03 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Infantry Fire Tactics, Vol. 29 The following work is the result of some years constant, though pleasant and interesting work, and my labours will be far more than repaid if, in any way, they are productive of good to the British Service. The size of the book shows the development that the subject of Infantry Fire Tactics has reached, andin the following pages the reader will see that superiority of fire is to be obtained more by a rational and good tactical use of the rifle than by any actual superiority of armament, though this latter consideration must be given its full weight. Other things being equal, the better the rifle, and its ammunition, the greater will be the effects of the fire. The following pages will show the kind of data and statistics that should be found out for any new rifle, by experiments, in order to work out rules for the Fire Tactics to be used with it. But though, in the following pages, rules of firing have been deduced, based on the total height of an average man, yet it would appear to be preferable to use only the height of an average man's shoulder for this purpose. I have endeavoured my best to place the arguments on both sides of any debateable matter as fairly as possible, and I must ask the reader to pay as much attention to the footnotes throughout the book, as to the matter to which they refer.
