Download or read book Collision Theory written by Teimuraz Kopaleishvili and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a systematic description of collision theory within the framework of non-relativistic quantum mechanics. However, the final expressions obtained can also hold for particles with spin and under relativistic conditions. The general theory is formulated for two elementary particles, for the scattering of an elementary particle with a bound system of elementary particles, and for the scattering process for a three-particle system (Faddeev's theory). In addition, the scattering problems are considered using exact and approximation methods.

Book excerpt: Nuclear Spin-Parity Assignments covers the proceedings of the Bases for Nuclear Spin-Parity Assignments conference held in Gatlinburg, Tennessee on November 11-13, 1965. The book focuses on methods for deducing spins and parities of low-lying nuclear states. The selection first offers information on the criteria for spin-parity assignments and direct measurements of spins of radioactive nuclei. Discussions focus on microwave spectroscopy method, paramagnetic resonance method, optical spectroscopic method, and nuclear magnetic resonance technique. The book also elaborates on absolute conversion coefficient measurements for spin and parity assignments; coincidence arrangement for nuclear lifetime measurements using fast gas-filled counters; and beta and gamma transition probabilities. The text ponders on particle angular correlations following nuclear reactions; gamma-ray angular correlations following nuclear reactions; and spin determinations through triple angular correlation measurements. The manuscript also examines Coulomb excitation; nuclear isomer excitation by low-energy electrons and x rays; and analysis of inelastic scattering by adiabatic approximation. The selection is highly recommended for readers interested in nuclear spin-parity assignments.

Book Scattering Two Volume Set

Download or read book Scattering Two Volume Set written by E. R. Pike and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-10-09 with total page 1831 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scattering is the collision of two objects that results in a change of trajectory and energy. For example, in particle physics, such as electrons, photons, or neutrons are "scattered off" of a target specimen, resulting in a different energy and direction. In the field of electromagnetism, scattering is the random diffusion of electromagnetic radiation from air masses is an aid in the long-range sending of radio signals over geographic obstacles such as mountains. This type of scattering, applied to the field of acoustics, is the spreading of sound in many directions due to irregularities in the transmission medium. Volume I of Scattering will be devoted to basic theoretical ideas, approximation methods, numerical techniques and mathematical modeling. Volume II will be concerned with basic experimental techniques, technological practices, and comparisons with relevant theoretical work including seismology, medical applications, meteorological phenomena and astronomy. This reference will be used by researchers and graduate students in physics, applied physics, biophysics, chemical physics, medical physics, acoustics, geosciences, optics, mathematics, and engineering. This is the first encyclopedic-range work on the topic of scattering theory in quantum mechanics, elastodynamics, acoustics, and electromagnetics. It serves as a comprehensive interdisciplinary presentation of scattering and inverse scattering theory and applications in a wide range of scientific fields, with an emphasis, and details, up-to-date developments. Scattering also places an emphasis on the problems that are still in active current research. The first interdisciplinary reference source on scattering to gather all world expertise in this technique Covers the major aspects of scattering in a common language, helping to widening the knowledge of researchers across disciplines The list of editors, associate editors and contributors reads like an international Who's Who in the interdisciplinary field of scattering

Book Atom Molecule Collision Theory

    Book Details:

  • Release : 2013-11-11
  • ISBN : 1461329132
  • Pages : 785 pages

Download or read book Atom Molecule Collision Theory written by Richard Barry Bernstein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 785 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The broad field of molecular collisions is one of considerable current interest, one in which there is a great deal of research activity, both experi mental and theoretical. This is probably because elastic, inelastic, and reactive intermolecular collisions are of central importance in many of the fundamental processes of chemistry and physics. One small area of this field, namely atom-molecule collisions, is now beginning to be "understood" from first principles. Although the more general subject of the collisions of polyatomic molecules is of great im portance and intrinsic interest, it is still too complex from the viewpoint of theoretical understanding. However, for atoms and simple molecules the essential theory is well developed, and computational methods are sufficiently advanced that calculations can now be favorably compared with experimental results. This "coming together" of the subject (and, incidentally, of physicists and chemists !), though still in an early stage, signals that the time is ripe for an appraisal and review of the theoretical basis of atom-molecule collisions. It is especially important for the experimentalist in the field to have a working knowledge of the theory and computational methods required to describe the experimentally observable behavior of the system. By now many of the alternative theoretical approaches and computational procedures have been tested and intercompared. More-or-Iess optimal methods for dealing with each aspect are emerging. In many cases working equations, even schematic algorithms, have been developed, with assumptions and caveats delineated.

Book Polarization Theory of Nuclear Reactions

Download or read book Polarization Theory of Nuclear Reactions written by Qing-Biao Shen and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-24 with total page 743 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the reader with a modern and comprehensive overview of nuclear polarization theory. The understanding of polarization phenomena greatly enriches data obtained from scattering and nuclear reactions by providing information on the interaction that can change spin orientation as well as important verification data for the study of nuclear structures and reaction mechanisms. The author methodically derives the polarization theory of nuclear reactions for various types of elastic scattering and two-body direct reactions between particles of different spin and unpolarized target nuclei with arbitrary spin, as well as the reactions between two polarized light particles and the polarization theory for photon beams. In addition, the polarization theories of relativistic nuclear reactions are rigorously covered in great scope and detail. A chapter on polarized particle transport theory presents the Monte-Carlo method for describing the transport of polarized particles and formalizes the polarized particle transport equation. Here, the author also illustrates a novel and concrete scheme for establishing a polarization nuclear database. Nuclear polarization is important not only for microscopic nuclear structure and reaction studies but also for nuclear engineering, applied nuclear physics, and medical physics. With the development of radioactive beam facilities and, on the theoretical side, the development of consistent microscopic nuclear reaction and structure theories, this book on the polarization theory of nuclear reactions serves as a timely source of reference for students and researchers alike.

Book Theory and Application of Quantum Molecular Dynamics

Download or read book Theory and Application of Quantum Molecular Dynamics written by John Z. H. Zhang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives an updated and detailed presentation of modern quantum-mechanical treatments and practical computational methods for dynamical processes of small molecular systems. The main emphasis is on the recent development of successful theories and computational methods for the reactive scattering process. Specific applications are given in detail for a number of benchmark chemical reaction systems in the gas phase and gas surface. Differing from traditional physics books focusing on abstract collision theory for elastic collisions, the book has been written in a fashion in which the development of general reactive or rearrangement scattering theory is accompanied by practical applications for realistic reaction systems.
