Book Professionalization in the Creative Sector

Download or read book Professionalization in the Creative Sector written by Margaret J. Wyszomirski and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-10-26 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to better understand the processes and influences that have driven professionalization in the arts. It develops an analytical framework that examines how processes of professionalization that typically influence and shape work conditions and occupational status are, in the creative sector, augmented by atypical worker efforts and choices to self-structure their protean careers. The book brings together a collection of works that explore the specific trajectories of professionalization in a variety of creative occupations as well as the formative processes that work across many creative occupations. In particular, the scholarship presented focuses on the interaction of three key variables: field growth and institutionalization, mutual benefit organization within fields and occupations, and the intervention of cultural policy to validate and foster professional support structures. In the broader context of expanding globalization, growing awareness of diversity, and tectonic shifts in technology, this volume unveils research-based implications for cultural policy, cultural workers, and cultural organizations. This book will be of interest to researchers, creative professionals, as well as undergraduate and graduate-level students in the fields of arts administration and culture.

Book The Export Credits Guarantee Department and Sustainable Development

Download or read book The Export Credits Guarantee Department and Sustainable Development written by Great Britain. Parliament. House of Commons. Environmental Audit Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2008 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since last investigated in 2003, the Export Credits Guarantee Department has continued to make progress on sustainable development that deserves to be recognised. Sound foundations have been laid and mechanisms put in place that offer a good framework for further action. There is still room for improvement in the way sustainable development is incorporated into the agency's decision-making and the ECGD must ensure its activities are in line with wider Government aspirations on sustainable development. The challenge is for the ECGD to demonstrate that sustainable development is given appropriate weight within its current remit and that it does nothing that would actively undermine this principle. In particular, the ECGD should identify areas where its environmental standards could be tightened. More rigorous standards can then be applied across its portfolio, including to aerospace exports. The ECGD must improve the transparency of its assessment processes and increase the level of disclosure of project information. It is important that the department does more to attract renewable energy and other projects that support sustainable development; support from Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (DBERR) will be vital in taking this forward. The ECGD's approach to sustainable development is all the more important because of its ability to influence and raise standards internationally. A bolder approach from the ECGD on sustainable development issues and transparency will be vital in improving the performance of Export Credit Agencies in general.

Book Evaluating Climate Chanage Action Plans

Download or read book Evaluating Climate Chanage Action Plans written by James C. White and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The atmospheric scientists of the world are in general agreement that the threat of climate change is real, inevitable, and serious. The accumulation of greenhouse gases, principally CO from burning fossil fuels, is the main cause. 2 At the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, 166 nations signed the Framework Convention on Climate Change and agreed to draw up plans to contain greenhouse gases at 1990 levels. Never in world history had so many nations agreed on anything. . Developing these plans has not been easy and no two countries have had the same circumstances and conditions to meet. Countries have not approached their problems in the same manner and many nations find the task almost impossible to solve under the ground rules set up in Rio. This volume contains the papers presented at a meeting organized by the Center for Environmental Information and held in Washington, D.C., November 30 to December 2, 1994. The principal aim of the meeting was to evaluate the U.S. and other national climate action plans which had been released a few weeks before. Specifically, these papers concentrate on an overview of the U.S. plan; the perspec tives of business, industry, electric utilities, and environmental organizations; mitigation actions in various plans; integrated assessment; an overview of plans from various nations; and the need to amend the convention. The meeting was sponsored and cosponsored by 35 governmental agencies, environ mental groups, industrial organizations, and educational institutions.
