Book Industrial Peace 1921 Vol 9 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Industrial Peace 1921 Vol 9 Classic Reprint written by and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-12 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Industrial Peace, 1921, Vol. 9 Tits reluctance of private employers and the employing departments of municipalities to submit their demands for wages reductions to arbitration has excited considerable comment. And not a little adverse criticism. It is held that during the war and the transitional period which followed the armistice. Organised labour, at that time strong and aware of its strength. Consented to the settlement of its claims by the Committee on Production and the Industrial Court of Arbitration which followed it. It is therefore but right (we are told) that now, when the tide has turned and the economic power of labour has been enormously reduced, the employers should agree to the determination of wage changes by a similar impartial tribunal. But an examination of the facts of the case will show that the analogy is false. And that in refusing to employ the method of arbitration employers are by no means inconsistent. It is not, indeed. Too much to say that they are but pursuing the policy which organised labour itself approves. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Dispatches: 1919-1921 Paris, May 26. - The reaction to the terms of the Peace Treaty with Germany among the internationally minded here doubtless follows much the same lines as in America. Politico-Social Second Adventists who climbed up on the housetops ready to jump off into the millennium the moment peace was signed naturally are chagrined to discover that they put on their white robes in vain. A larger group, having held no such high hopes, finds itself embittered by no such disillusionment. Like the hymn writer, they do not ask to see the distant scene - one step is enough for them. They welcome the peace, not as bringing perfection at all, or even all they had hoped for, but at least as bringing progress, and promise of further progress under a growing League of Nations. Millenniumists of the type of Bullitt, head of the much-discussed mission to Lenine, whose letter of resignation from the staff of the American commission has been published, decry the peace as a patchwork, imperialistic affair; "a peace without security." Book The Economic Consequences of the Peace

Download or read book The Economic Consequences of the Peace written by John Maynard Keynes and published by Simon Publications LLC. This book was released on 1920 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Maynard Keynes, then a rising young economist, participated in the Paris Peace Conference in 1919 as chief representative of the British Treasury and advisor to Prime Minister David Lloyd George. He resigned after desperately trying and failing to reduce the huge demands for reparations being made on Germany. The Economic Consequences of the Peace is Keynes' brilliant and prophetic analysis of the effects that the peace treaty would have both on Germany and, even more fatefully, the world.

Book Command Of The Air

    Book Details:
  • Author : General Giulio Douhet
  • Publisher : Pickle Partners Publishing
  • Release : 2014-08-15
  • ISBN : 1782898522
  • Pages : 620 pages

Download or read book Command Of The Air written by General Giulio Douhet and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-15 with total page 620 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the pantheon of air power spokesmen, Giulio Douhet holds center stage. His writings, more often cited than perhaps actually read, appear as excerpts and aphorisms in the writings of numerous other air power spokesmen, advocates-and critics. Though a highly controversial figure, the very controversy that surrounds him offers to us a testimonial of the value and depth of his work, and the need for airmen today to become familiar with his thought. The progressive development of air power to the point where, today, it is more correct to refer to aerospace power has not outdated the notions of Douhet in the slightest In fact, in many ways, the kinds of technological capabilities that we enjoy as a global air power provider attest to the breadth of his vision. Douhet, together with Hugh “Boom” Trenchard of Great Britain and William “Billy” Mitchell of the United States, is justly recognized as one of the three great spokesmen of the early air power era. This reprint is offered in the spirit of continuing the dialogue that Douhet himself so perceptively began with the first edition of this book, published in 1921. Readers may well find much that they disagree with in this book, but also much that is of enduring value. The vital necessity of Douhet’s central vision-that command of the air is all important in modern warfare-has been proven throughout the history of wars in this century, from the fighting over the Somme to the air war over Kuwait and Iraq.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Keynes always intended to write 'footnotes' to his masterwork The General Theory, which would take account of the criticisms made of it and allow him to develop and refine his ideas further. However, a number of factors combined to prevent him from doing so before his death in 1946. A wide range of Keynes scholars - including James Tobin, Paul Davidson and Lord Skidelsky - have written here the 'footnotes' that Keynes never did.

Book The Baltic and the Outbreak of the Second World War

Download or read book The Baltic and the Outbreak of the Second World War written by John Hiden and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2003-01-30 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first to highlight the importance of the Baltic region in the approach to war in 1939. Amid the welter of publications on the origins of the Second World War none has sought hitherto to focus on the Baltic region, where peace finally and irrevocably broke down. Central strategic and international issues of the interwar years are thus illuminated from a fresh perspective by a distinguished team of specialists that includes a number of native Baltic historians. The themes discussed by the contributors acquired renewed relevance, as the Baltic republics asserted their rejection of incorporation within the Soviet Union following the Nazi-Soviet pact of 1939. The Baltic and the outbreak of the Second World War makes an important contribution to the perennial debate on the immediate causes of the conflict, and should interest specialists in a variety of fields within international relations, modern European and diplomatic history.
