El trabajo está dividido en dos líneas de investigación: industria y trabajo, y migración internacional. La primera línea aborda diversos temas: formación de capacidades humanas y organizacionales, mercados de trabajo, organizaciones sindicales, clústers industriales y nuevas tecnologías. En particular se analiza las transformaciones en la industria maquiladora y en sus recursos humanos así como el papel de los empresarios y los sindicatos de la región fronteriza; se presenta también una visión acerca de las empresas e instituciones incrustadas localmente pero operando globalmente. La segunda línea aborda las prácticas políticas de migración de México hacia Estados Unidos, los derechos humanos, las diferentes ocupaciones de los migrantes, la religión y las nuevas rutas de movilidad. Se trata de estudios cualitativos tanto en la zona fronteriza como en las regiones de origen y destino de los migrantes. En ambas líneas se puede observar que los investigadores que participan en esta obra han aportado a lo largo de más de 25 años un conocimiento sistemático e innovador sobre los cambios en la industrialización fronteriza y su rol en la globalización, haciendo énfasis en lo que esto implica: la composición sociodemográfica de los migrantes, la situación de sus derechos humanos, los efectos socioeconómicos de la migración y el cambio de las rutas de los migrantes en el cruce indocumentado.

Sponsored by the GCI, the Museum of New Mexico State Monuments, ICCROM, CRATerre-EAG, and the National Park Service, under the aegis of US/ICOMOS, the event was organized to promote the exchange of ideas, techniques, and research findings on the conservation of earthen architecture. Presentations at the conference covered a diversity of subjects, including the historic traditions of earthen architecture, conservation and restoration, site preservation, studies in consolidation and seismic mitigation, and examinations of moisture problems, clay chemistry, and microstructures. In discussions that focused on the future, the application of modern technologies and materials to site conservation was urged, as was using scientific knowledge of existing structures in the creation of new, low-cost, earthen architecture housing.
