Book Political Power and Communications in Indonesia

Download or read book Political Power and Communications in Indonesia written by Karl D. Jackson and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2023-11-10 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few general books are currently available on Indonesia despite its enormous human and economic resources. Hence the importance of this book, which offeres the latest research of internationally respected scholars with extensive first-hand experience in the archipelago. Their particular concern is with the realities of power and the patterns of communication in a society distinguished by both its poverty and its great potential. The contributors to the volume span a wide spectrum of viewpoints, and present various interpretation of Indonesian society. Taken together, however, the essays support the thesis that Indonesia is a "bureaucratic polity"--a political system in which power is hierarchically organized, influence is monopolized by an official elite, and individuals outside officialdom have little effect on events. These authorities examine in depth such subjects as the role of the military, the impact of bureaucracy, the importance of political parties, the character of the mass media, and the direction of economic development as well as other matters essential for an understanding of current development in the country. Political Power and Communications in Indonesia is addressed not only to students of Indonesia or specialists in comparative politics and political development but quite as directly to persons seeking basic information about an extremely interesting and complex society. Its broad coverage makes it a veritable handbook about how government functions in Indonesia. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Blue-Eyed Enemy is a comprehensive account of the interwoven histories of the three major archipelago-nations of the West Pacific during the years of the Second World War. Theodore Friend examines Japanese colonialism in Indonesia and the Philippines as an example of recurring patterns of domination and repression in that region. He depicts Japanese rule in Greater East Asia as expressive of the folly of the general who exhorted his troops "to annihilate the blue-eyed enemy and their black slaves." At the same time he clearly shows where the return of Western power aimed at new links between conqueror and conquered, or lords and bondsmen. Throughout the work one encounters an infectious sympathy for those afflicted by imperialism and racism from whatever source, at whatever time. The book is based on documentary research in Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines, as well as in the United States and the Netherlands, and on over one hundred interviews with major actors and key observers of the era. The analysis balances an eclectic use of social science perspectives with a humanistic concreteness, and leads to new understanding of leaders like Sukarno and Hatta, Jose P. Laurel and Benigno Aquino, Sr., and Generals Yamashita and MacArthur. As comparative tropical history, it elucidates the contrasting cultural traditions and political psychologies of Indonesia and the Philippines and explains why 1945 was a year of dramatic contrast: "reoccupation" and revolution for the first country, and "liberation" and restoration for the latter. Book Psychological Aspects of Student Performance

Download or read book Psychological Aspects of Student Performance written by Lathifah Hanum and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The rise in global competition demands an increase in education quality. Education institutions are thus required to think more about how they can improve their student performances. One factor that has been found to play a vital role in increasing performance is psychological factors. While previous literature has extensively discussed this issue in Western contexts and some countries in Asia (e.g., Singapore and China), few extant works of literature attempt to understand it in Indonesian contexts. This book will attempt to fill the gap by discussing empirical evidence of the role of parent and peer supports, academic self-efficacy, performance goal orientation, college adjustment, cognitive process, self-control, psychological distress, differential feedback, and involvement in college organizations. Student performances are discussed in the various levels of educations, from primary schools to higher education"--
