Book The Internationalisation of Business R D

Download or read book The Internationalisation of Business R D written by Bernhard Dachs and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2014-01-01 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has become clear that over the past few decades enterprises not only produce and sell abroad but increasingly also develop goods and services outside their home countries; a development now known as the internationalisation of business R and D. This book presents a comprehensive picture of the current state of internationalisation of R and D in the business sector. The contributors explore key patterns of the internationalisation of R and D across various countries and sectors using case studies to underpin empirical evidence. They examine the drivers of the process, revealing the impacts of R and D internationalisation on both home and host countries using both qualitative and quantitative analysis. Topics discussed include: * Why firms locate R and D activities abroad * Data availability, quality and comparability * The role of the EU and the US in the internationalisation of R and D * Country-level factors such as size, workforce and FDI as determinants of R and D internationalisation * Impacts of R and D internationalisation on home and host countries. This book will prove an insightful read for academics, researchers and students with an interest in economics - particularly the economics of innovation - business and management, and science and technology. It will also prove a valuable resource for R and D policymakers and public administrators.

Book Ersatz Capitalism and Industrial Policy in Southeast Asia

Download or read book Ersatz Capitalism and Industrial Policy in Southeast Asia written by Fabian Bocek and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-05-17 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book applies and develops the concept of “ersatz capitalism” in the analysis of industrial policy blockades to economic development in Malaysia and Indonesia. Drawing on insights from international political economy, development studies, industrial and innovation policy, and new institutionalism to refer to a specific type of capitalism, the book analyzes different paths and institutions of economic development within the entire East Asian region. Comprehensive theoretical insights are complemented by empirical case studies that relate to country and sectoral studies – the automotive and ICT industries – in Malaysia and Indonesia. Applying contemporary research on international political economy to refer to a specific type of capitalism, the author examines how conflicts of interest between factions of state apparatus, associations, and companies contribute to the failure of developmental policies. The unique combination of theory formation and empirical analysis provides a novel approach to international comparative research on capitalism. The book will be of interest to researchers in the fields of international political economy, development studies, new institutionalism, East Asian and Southeast Asian studies, and industrial and innovation policy.

Book Navigating Nationalism in Global Enterprise

Download or read book Navigating Nationalism in Global Enterprise written by Christina Lubinski and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2022-11-03 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Navigating Nationalism in Global Enterprise analyzes the role of nationalism in global business strategy, showing how multinationals act not just as drivers of globalization but also as sophisticated operators in a world of nations. Using the case study of German companies in colonial and post-colonial India, Christina Lubinski traces how nationalism's influence on business competitive strategies changed over the twentieth century and across major political turning points, such as two world wars and India's transition to independence. She highlights how national imaginings are both relational because they derive from comparisons with other nations, and historical because they mobilize the past to legitimize future aspirations. Lubinski stresses that learning from the past is how multinationals engage strategically with the content of nationalism – i.e., a nation's history, aspirations, and relationships with other nations. In India, German companies' competitiveness was continuously dependent on navigating nationalism and on understanding that nationalism and globalization are inextricably linked.
