Book Research on Employment for Persons with Severe Mental Illness

Download or read book Research on Employment for Persons with Severe Mental Illness written by William H. Fisher and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-12-17 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first overall study of the texts and language of the Old Latin Gospels, the versions of the four Gospels that predate the Vulgate of Jerome. In this book three main questions are addressed. Do the various extant manuscripts represent the remains of many originally separate versions, or local variants of a single main tradition? How do we analyse the translation techniques used to produce these texts? What do these translations tell us about the development of post-classical, non-literary Latin, and vice versa? Dr Burton approaches the issue of monogenesis versus polygenesis through a systematic analysis of the vocabulary of each individual Gospel. He reassess the traditional description of these Gospels as 'literal' and 'vulgar', examining the extent to which these terms are meaningful and applicable.

Book Clinical Guide to the Treatment of the Mentally Ill Homeless Person

Download or read book Clinical Guide to the Treatment of the Mentally Ill Homeless Person written by American Association of Community Psychiatrists and published by American Psychiatric Pub. This book was released on 2007-05-03 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A case-based, clinical guide applicable to a variety of settings, this book offers evidence-based expert advice on the difficult challenges inherent in working with underserved homeless populations. The American Association of Community Psychiatrists' Clinical Guide to the Treatment of the Mentally Ill Homeless Person is a concise, practical work that gives busy clinicians the information they need; it not only is more up-to-date than existing publications, but also offers case- and site-based content that provides more hands-on, practical advice. Written by clinicians, for clinicians, it offers approaches to therapy and rehabilitation from the vantage point of the treatment environment, from street to housing and everything in between. The book reflects approaches to the clinical care of homeless people refined over two decades, building not only on the work of academic research but more importantly on the firsthand experience of clinicians. Its organization by treatment setting or specific subpopulation allows readers quick access to the chapters most relevant to their work. The first five chapters follow a sequence of naturalistic settings -- such as shelters and the work of Assertive Community Treatment Teams -- that demonstrate a model of engagement, intensive care, and ongoing rehabilitation. Subsequent chapters define specific scenarios that depict patients at various points on the engagement-rehabilitation continuum. Each chapter contains a clinical case example; guides to differential diagnosis, treatment planning, and accessing entitlements; and a flow chart for rehabilitation, including opportunities for student/resident or community involvement. The book emphasizes: A real-world orientation that provides a nuts-and-bolts approach to such cases as families, homeless children, veterans -- even individuals in rural settings. Cases that enable readers to follow the progress of individuals as they progress through the network of care. The importance of Assertive Community Treatment and "housing first" models of rehabilitation. Data supporting the importance of Critical Time Intervention, particularly with regard to homeless families. Examples of clinical interviewing techniques for engagement and treatment of challenging individuals who are being seen in community settings. These illustrated techniques can be incorporated into educational curricula. This is an indispensable resource for any mental health professional working with homeless populations and is also useful for medical students' clinical rotation in community psychiatric settings. Its examples of clinically engaging the homeless person are equally instructive for teaching interviewing skills to any professionals -- whether in law enforcement, social work, substance abuse treatment, or the clergy -- who encounter these forgotten members of society.

Book Evidence based Supported Employment for People with Mental Illness Recently Housed by a Housing First Project

Download or read book Evidence based Supported Employment for People with Mental Illness Recently Housed by a Housing First Project written by Daniel Poremski and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "People with mental illness, recently housed by a Housing First program, experience rates of unemployment exceeding 95%. A large majority would like to return to employment, but face significant obstacles that result from their experiences of homelessness and mental illness. Some of these obstacles persist after they receive housing support, suggesting that they require assistance attaining their employment goals. Individual placement and support (IPS) is effective at increasing employment rates among stably-housed people with mental illness. Less is known about the impact of IPS on homeless people with mental illness. This mixed methods study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of IPS and Housing First on employment and includes three datasets (two quantitative and one qualitative). It is from these datasets that the content of this thesis is derived: 1) A large dataset of 2148 participants from the At home/ Chez Soi Housing First randomized controlled trial (RCT). 2) A site-specific sample of 90 participants from an RCT testing the effect of IPS. And 3) a sample of 27 participants interviewed as part of the qualitative strand. Dataset 3 was obtained from a subsample of dataset 2, which was a subsample of dataset 1. The randomized control trials of IPS and Housing First suggest that neither alone is sufficient to significantly increase peoples' odds of obtaining employment compared with usual services, but that IPS does increase the odds slightly to a statistically significant extent. With time Housing First does have an impact, but the odds remain lower than those observed in the control group. The effect of IPS may have been diluted by problems related to implementation and homelessness. Qualitative interviews suggest that IPS appears to have beneficial effects on participants' search for employment by facilitating the establishment of trusting working alliances." --
