Of character is obviously very intricate, involving much minute observation and close anal ysis, so that most persons think that one who would acquire skill as a judge of men must devote himself to it almost entirely; an opinion that is partly true and partly false. To be sure great skill and accuracy in the estimation of character demand long and patient study, but a degree of expertness may be obtained through the employment of part of the ordinary leisure which nearly all business or professional men have, in the set observation of the men and women they meet, in accordance with the precepts of a proper textbook. And this degree of skill will prove invaluable in vari ous ways. Book Character Reading

Download or read book Character Reading written by Theron Q. Dumont and published by Cosimo, Inc.. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does character determine appearance? Can the shape of a person's face-or the bumps on his head-provide insight into intelligence and personality? What effect, ultimately, do our thoughts and attitudes and personality have on how we look? It's a question that artists and scientists (and dictators) have grappled with for ages, and one that can lead down increasingly slippery slopes. But in pre-Freudian, pre-Holocaust America, when phrenology was still semi-respectable, New Thought pioneer William Walker Atkinson (writing as Theron Q. Dumont) wrote what he hoped would be the ultimate guide to the Science of Character Reading. Today some of his findings must be taken with a grain of salt, but this 1919 guide is a fascinating catalogue-replete with drawings and diagrams-of the many temperaments, characteristics, faces and expressions of that remarkably complex species known as the human race. THERON Q. DUMONT is an alias and pen name of American writer WILLIAM WALKER ATKINSON (1862-1932), editor of the popular magazine New Thought from 1901 to 1905, and editor of the journal Advanced Thought from 1916 to 1919. He authored dozens of New Thought books under numerous pseudonyms, including "Yogi," some of which are likely still unknown today.

Download or read book Reading the Face written by Norbert Glas and published by Temple Lodge Publishing. This book was released on 2008 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a boy traveling to school by streetcar, Norbert Glas often passed the time by studying the faces of his fellow passengers, pondering the significance of the shapes and contours of their noses, eyes, and mouths. Later in life, after becoming a medical doctor and a student of Rudolf Steiner's spiritual science, Glas gained greater insight into the mysteries of human physiognomy. In Reading the Face, the first translation into English of his seminal work, Glas begins by defining the three parts of the human face and explaining the importance of their relative proportions. A face that is more pronounced in any of these areas tends to indicate certain personality traits and specific physiological characteristics. People with a strong mouth and chin, for example, tend to have a strong will and an active, driven, and assertive nature. With the help of many photos and drawings, Glas presents the physiognomy of three basic types and analyses the specifics of the head, forehead, ears, eyes, mouth, and nose. Reading the Face will be valuable to doctors, teachers, and anyone who wants to better understand, accept, and love others.
