Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This international handbook gives a comprehensive overview of findings from longstanding and contemporary research, theory, and practices in early childhood education in the Northern and Southern hemispheres. The first volume of the handbook addresses theory, methodology, and the research activities and research needs of particular regions. The second volume examines in detail innovations and longstanding programs, curriculum and assessment, and conceptions and research into child, family and communities. The two volumes of this handbook address the current theory, methodologies and research needs of specific countries and provide insight into existing global similarities in early childhood practices. By paying special attention to what is happening in the larger world contexts, the volumes provide a representative overview of early childhood education practices and research, and redress the current North-South imbalance of published work on the subject.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past fifteen years, Brazil has made great strides in increasing its population's access to early child education, with both preschool and creche enrollment increasing by over fifty percent. Education programs for young children have consistently been shown to have long-term positive effects on life outcomes of participants. In Brazil, these programs have demonstrated positive impacts on, for example, income, length of schooling, and test scores. However, the quality of pre-schools and creches is essential in achieving these improvements, and even in capital cities, very few centers are rated as high-quality centers. Representation of the poorest and most vulnerable children among those attending pre-school and creche still lags considerably behind that of more privileged children, although poorer children stand to gain the most from early child education programs. Additionally, large rural-urban and regional disparities exist. This book details the literature on the effects of early child education and the importance of quality, and gives a comprehensive view of the quality, regional, and socioeconomic gaps in early child education in Brazil. It further examines existing public and private initiatives in Brazil, and discusses how they can be leveraged to effectively and efficiently provide quality pre-school and creche care. A central aim of the book is to provide policymakers with specific recommendations of policies to improve the quality and equity of the early child education experience in Brazil. Given the difficulty in reaching children in remote areas and the need to expand coverage to the poorest segments of the population, Brazil will need to be strategic in how and where it invests. It should target new centers and allocate existing spaces to the poorest people and areas. Municipal policymakers should allocate public spaces in a transparent manner, provide guidelines to institutions, and monitor them. Teachers need guidance on the best activities to use, to improve child outcomes. The use of participatory budgeting could potentially improve access and equity by involving the poor directly in the budgeting process. Increased cross-sectoral coordination could improve child welfare in cost-effective ways, and public-private partnerships could stretch existing resources further and expand coverage more quickly.

Download or read book Rumo a uma cobertura universal de sa de e equidade na Am rica Latina e no Caribe written by Tania Dmytraczenko and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do children acquire language? How does real life language acquisition differ from results found in controlled environments? And how is modern life challenging established theories? Going far beyond laboratory experiments, the International Handbook of Language Acquisition examines a wide range of topics surrounding language development to shed light on how children acquire language in the real world. The foremost experts in the field cover a variety of issues, from the underlying cognitive processes and role of language input to development of key language dimensions as well as both typical and atypical language development. Download or read book Hist ria de Santa B rbara d Oeste written by José Pedro Soares Martins and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the beginning of the 19th century, around 1810 a path connecting Santo Antonio de Piracicaba to Villa Sao Carlos de Campinas was opened in a place that was still uninhabited, known as "Toledos Region". The region was covered with a dense growth of trees and a large supply of water. The soil was exceptional for cultivation and the region started to be sought by farmers. Mrs. Margarida da Graçía Martins from Santos, a widow of sergeant Francisco de Paula Martins, was one of those who around 1817 acquired a plot of uncultivated land, bordering on the north the Piracicaba river and on the northeast direction the Quilombo river. She came with her children, relatives and slaves to start a farm and a sugar mill and that was the start of a village. Mrs. Margarida donated land to Cria Paulistana for the construction of a chapel in honor of Saint Barbara, which was built in 1818, year that marked the foundation of Santa Bárbara. This is the history and architecture of the growth.
